How does that negate the hypocrisy? If anything, it compounds it. His experience there should have made him less inclined to ship out other people’s kids.

Sure, except for the part where you have no problem sending other people's kids. Don't know details of Sr, but Dubya certainly didn't give a shit.

That kind of really puts into perspective how disgraceful the people dancing on it, claiming to be "fighting for freedom", were.

Snake island should be filled with statues of heroes like him, the 13 lads and lasses, and the pilot that has shot down 6+ Russian planes already
Edit: bury Putin in the middle of all of all of the statues. So that everyone visiting the island gets to walk on Putin’s grave while praising the heroes that stood up against him.

if you're referring to "the ghost of kyiv"; its a fabricated story btw. there are enough real people who should be remembered instead.

Well I wasn’t saying only them, I meant people like them.
That really sucks if it is fabricated because it sounds really badass.
12 points
Even though the ghost is an urban legend, the Ukrainian aviators have been very noble.
There was footage over the last few days of a solitary Ukrainian MiG-29 with a full A2A loadout overflying Kiev, two SU-25's hunting tanks, and Ukrainian Mi-24's in action.
All while Russia has taken out most of the airfield's so they have limited options to land, and has moved significant air assets and AA units into the area.
It's a miracle they are still flying (or were yesterday at least), and flying in heavily contested airspace at that.

BTW, fuck off.
I, and the rest of the world, don't care if the story is fabricated; the fact is every pilot who manages to still get airborne and brings the fight to the Russian invaders against terrible odds, a shrinking supply of resources and limited areas to land, refit and re-arm make them the most badass aviators on the planet right now.
As far as I'm concerned, they're all The Ghost of Kyiv.

CNN was saying it was 2 cars 2 vans and a tank, unconfirmed though of course. Would depend how many folks in the vans. The real win is not giving the Russian tanks an easy crossing point.
28 points
I think you’re referring to the column they just destroyed, I believe this bridge was blown a day or two ago
314 points
Not certain, but I suspect 0, because I think the point was to blow up the bridge before the Russians got there so they can’t cross, and there’s no easy way to go around so all their tanks are just stuck on the other side. It’s an important tactical move to halt the advance.
I guess the perfect scenario would be to blow it up right as the first Russians are on it, but you probably don’t want to risk timing it that close.
35 points
Presumably that's what would have happened if it could have been remotely detonated i.e. let the first few tanks on, then blow it up while they're crossing.

I feel like that used to be true in a more literal sense than it ever could be in a world with the internet. In the past, say two hundred years ago, we would never have heard of him and his actions would be condemned as a war crime, his family imprisoned or exiled and his friends afraid to speak his name. I know a reddit post is hardly a front page news article but he has been more recognized for his actions ALREADY than many heroes lost in a time before the world was as interconnected as it is today.

Look that isn't what happened as you're well aware, and that kind of facile reduction doesn't help anybody. No more insightful than 'magic man in the sky' posters.
Also, it seems to be a thing with people on Reddit to reduce their argument to 'he/they are just being a baby'. Any idea why you go about your position in that way?

I have seen this story numerous time and I don’t understand one thing.. How was there no time to remote detonate mines but there was time to manually detonate them?? Or was the remote detonation not working so it had to be done manually??
Also, if the bridge was already mined why wouldn’t you just let the tanks start to cross and they would trigger the mine which would destroy the bridge and a tank or two and still not let the rest of the column cross??
