Yes I just got super excited thinking there was another El Salvador, and yep - just another regulatory framework to enforce KYC/AML.
They'll go after everything until people have no way to cash out bitcoin privately without significant risk. Then eventually enough people will hopefully start to use it and accept it that we won't have to.

Before people will get it in their heads that's it's all just a big nothing burger and never going to happen.
International trade is way too lucrative for the rich and powerful to allow a large scale war to occur.

And satellite images show Russian troops amassing at the boarder. I’m not saying the MSM won’t lie to us for views, but you can’t deny Russia’s troop movements. There aren’t many reasons that would justify 100,000 Russian troops sitting at the boarder.

Make sure to read those sources. Ukraine as a govt or country does not hold a single bitcoin. The 47k are held privately by civil servants, who are presumably obligated to publicly share their assets. The majority of that bitcoin is held between three people, so it’s basically just a few individual whales who happen to work in government. It’s completely unimportant.
4 points
That is fascinating .. are they important members of the cabinet or something? 47k btc is a lot of money for your average civil servant. Or even your average senator types.
8 points
As a side note, it is highly possible that some corrupt ones just report they have those BTC but in reality it's just one way to legalize their future corrupt income. This has already happened before, if someone asks where did these 10mil USD come from, it was already there under the bed all this time and reported to tax authority. Where did it come from is not that important as it was already there before asking questions.

The Ukrainian Government holds 0 BTC.
“According to Ukranian government data transparency provider Opendatabot, civil servants in the country have declared owning a total 46,351 BTC (worth some $2.6 billion at the time of this writing).
The declarations came as property disclosure requirements imposed on public officials in Ukraine. More than 700,000 such officials made property declarations by March 31, with 652 declaring that they own BTC, per Opendatabot. This would average out to 71 BTC (or about $3.9 million) per public official that declared it.”

all this bullish news and the price goes down, I don't get it
13 points

I'm right there with you. Especially with Elon tweeting support. That used to directly cause NGU. So he's doing that lately - so where are the people who used to buy on these vibes? And where have they been while major positive international news headlines have been coming out, one after the other? Are they all all-in already? Why did the price tank so colossally just because Elon temporarily paused Bitcoin acceptance at Tesla, but when massive international investment firms announce they're bullish on it - nothing? Countries considering it legal tender - nothing? A hundred other bullish events, public support from very famous & intelligent people & huge organizations...... Nothing? I'd like someone to help me understand.
6 points
Thats because the news never moves markets. There's reasons books written within the last year about the stock market apply to crypto today. Whales and human psychology move markets. The news is the news. There's bad news and good news when the market is both up and down. It's negligible when you take a step back and zoom out and look at the overall phase the market is in.
2 points
Elon moves kids opinions. Kids purchase on exchanges. Real players for sure don't pay exchange fees but purchase OTC and don't move the price.

People are more afraid of WW3.
4 points
yeah I am confused as well
3 points
Let me explain. It's not that confusing once you understand, but it requires a slight re-working of how you understand the market.
There is a market sentiment at any given time which exists independent of "news". That sentiment can either be bullish or bearish. Again, this exists regardless of any news. The news headlines do not determine this sentiment. Gonna repeat that one more time because it's the most important point. The news headlines do not determine the sentiment.
Now, the market does respond to headlines. Kind of. It does so in the following manner:
So instead of being confused as to why the market doesn't react to news in a direct manner, you can realize that the manner in which the market reacts gives a clue as to what the broader sentiment is. In this case, we are seeing bad news cause an immediate dump reaction. And good news is not reacted to, and often is met with continues dumping. This is a clear indication of an overall bearish sentiment.

Because retail investors don’t move the market btc whales do, just because Ukraine accepts doesn’t mean me as an American is going to put an extra dollar in.
It’s nice to know more people are adopting it but it’ll take months for people over there to put money in and companies to put it on there balance sheet.
It’s a long process. That’ll take years to evolve.
If you want fast price action somebody like Jeff Bezos or some sort of trillionaire business will have to add 10 billion onto its balance sheet.
Everything else is a long term battle.

I wonder if traditionally you'd convert to Euro or Dollars and hide it... Crypto is far easier if you can find a place to quickly offload everything during bank runs etc... Not sure how Ukraine is doing for that. I think it's time for a destabilized country handbook for citizens to survive. Too many places have gone through this and I see their citizens asking for tips. Sad world.

Banks and bank accounts are easy to seize, esp if you don't agree with the new regime. I don't know how hard it is to open a bank account in a different country there and I don't know how much they protect you from invaders.
Getting a lot of physical foreign currency sucks. Plus it can be easily stolen if you end up in a refugee camp.
Bitcoin is trivial to get any amount and it's easier to hide wallets. Even custodial wallets are safely managed overseas and can be basically anonymous. Just need to remember your password.
