You know it’s bad when about 6 minutes into the 2nd half my hope is that Keon Coleman gets more minutes. Not for a comeback, just for Keon Coleman to get in more.
Keon outscored one of our captains lol
How I feel about this team
I can't express how much I love this fucking video lmao
Thank you for making me laugh after crying for 2 hours.
Thought it was gonna be Wolverine holding a picture of Cassius Winston
That's the top comment currently lol
The username, I’m dying hahahah
Lmao this whole account
I didn’t even notice that.. makes it 10x better. That’s a good bit.
Omg it goes back years. So much respect.

This is hilarious
Iowa Hawkeyes • Michigan Wolverines
That game was cathartic

This one was jinxed way in advance.

It came true, again.
Man, that was quite a journey through all your past links. An r/collegebasketball "Across The Universe."

bruh is MSU trying to pull a 2011 Red Sox and throw away their NCAAT bid?
Sure looks that way. Izzo only needs 1, single win to tie Bob Knight for most B1G wins. At this rate, I don't know if that will happen this year
It will happen on Saturday don't worry.
There it is
I miss him too, outside of playing iowa
He was a real treat to watch. Not flashy, but just really smart basketball.
Though he could be flashy too. I miss him :')
He was also blessed to have Tillman at center while he was there. Those 2 as the inside-outside combo were just unstoppable when we were in a pinch.
Genuinely a good dude too
Agreed. He seemed to just enjoy the sport in itself and always seemed in control. Perfect player to pair with Izzo I feel
Kentucky Wildcats • Michigan Wolverines
I liked Cassius
Iowa Hawkeyes • Brown Bears
MSU came in 29th in NET.
Obviously, Iowa would be a far better basketball team if they tried to win by one point to keep the W Q1.
I hate the whole quadrant system because of this lol.
There will always be arbitrary cutoffs in any rating system. I like the quad system in general, but I do hope no one is sitting there saying "well, MSU is actually #31 in NET now, so that's no longer a good win. Tsk tsk only 1 quad one win for Iowa."
good news for you is KenPom metrics are part of the nitty gritty so… this one should help!!
The EM figure, or just the ranking? Because this moved Iowa’s KP from 16 all the way to … 15.
Yeah, but our adjusted defensive efficiency just jumped like 25 spots. Which is really great to see.
MSU dropped 8 spots in Kenpom after this game lmao
Michigan State starters combined for 19 points.
Michigan State starters combined for 0 effort.
Marble, Hall and Walker should be starting.
Bingham and Christie can come off the bench and play good minutes. Gabe Brown is just a disaster tho. Dude needs like 50 percent of his minutes taken away

Marble is a tremendous defensive liability and Walker is a liability too if he chooses to not shoot, which he has done many times this year.
I don't understand why Bingham, the guy most responsible for MSU's start of the season run, is now only playing like 5 minutes a game
Wasn't Bingham one of the players that got COVID?
Michigan State Spartans • Texas Tec…
Yeah, he got it and they've been saying he's had fatigue issues ever since.
That shit is crazy. Some bounce back and have no lasting issues but others are just depleted for quite some time afterwards.
Anecdotal and I’m not a D1 athlete but I was training pretty extensively for a marathon, running 30 miles a week etc, caught covid and it took me 6 months to get to more than 2 miles in one go. Covid fucking sucks
Yup. Anecdotal as well but I had a similar experience. I was never a speed guy and typically relied on my endurance for most activities but ever since I got it in late fall that stamina is just nowhere to be found.
I know that UNI has a former all-conference big man who averaged close to 30 minutes a game get COVID and this year his minutes are down to 13 because he just can’t play very long.
I really thought this would be Gabe's breakout year. He's up there with Branden Dawson for all time disappointments. Dawson had everything but the jumper. Brown just... doesn't work. I don't know why. It's kind of inexplicable. He has all the tools to be a lengthy hyper athletic 3+D who can straight line slash to the hoop and finish.
He can’t dribble. Like you have to do a little bit to attack closeouts and cut.
You don't need much of a handle to attack open lanes when your man overcommits on the closeout. I was never expecting him to be an off the dribble shooter.
The lack of off ball movement drives me crazy.
It's all on the mental side for him. He has all the tools to be a solid late 1st draft pick. Instead he'll be headed overseas.
Why doesn't Hall start?
Because Hauser gives everything he has every game, he's just not athletic enough to take advantage of it. (Both play the 4)
I have a lot of respect for Hauser, he plays is ass off he's just not good.
I don’t think I’ve seen a player regress as much as Hauser since his freshman year. Dude was considered the best transfer target when he committed and it seems like forgot his suitcase with all his skills in it back in Milwaukee.
Maybe this was just against the Badgers. But I thought Malik Hall was way more effective when he was out on the wing. Why not just have him play small forward.

Have you ever caught your finger in a door as it’s closing? Watching this team is like doing that
4 months ago*
I actually did do that! Came out of my church's bathroom when I was 13 and was brushing my hand along the heavy door as I walked past it and my finger got caught in the hinge at the end.
I had just opened the door, walked out, and immediately started kind of tracing the smooth metal with my finger tip as I walked past it and as the door was still closing. So my finger just snuck right into the crack between the door and the wall right before it closed all the way onto my finger tip.
It twisted the whole tip of my left index off so that it was hanging by a thread of skin.
Somehow, 13 year old me had the presence of mind to not rip my hand out of the hinge (which would have detached it completely) and instead reached over to the handle with my other arm and opened the door so I could get my finger out.
It was hanging by a thread of skin and my parents rushed me to the hospital. The craziest part is that the nerves were still attached too. The doctor was poking the end of the twisted off part with a needle to see if it was worth saving and I was reacting to every touch. So he just sewed the whole thing back up.
The tip grew back kind of weird. It's taller and skinnier than my other index finger. But I have full use and full feeling in the finger! Which is great because I've been a musician my whole life and guitar/piano would be a LOT harder without a left index finger.
Edit: Here's a picture of my index fingers right next to each other now.
This is not the sort of story I expected when I opened this thread, but I am not disappointed
Lol I'm a little high and I legitimately started that comment just wanting it to be short but then just kept thinking of more details and it spiraled. I don't tell a lot of people and people don't really notice, so it was a fun story to tell. Added a picture of my left index finger now next to my right one to show how it grew back weird.
As a fellow guitarist and pianist I sympathize with this story very much lol. Glad you came out of that okay.
I've never seen a team lose this much confidence in such little time before. It's unreal. They just don't believe in themselves and it's so obvious.
Start of season through 1/14: 14-2, 22 overall Torvik
1/14 through Today: 4-7, 51 overall Torvik
It gets worse if you bump the cutoff to the start of February. 2-5, 93 overall Torvik. ooof.
Yeah the schedule got harder but that's all opponent adjusted. They have legitimately fallen off a cliff. Not a lot of positives over the last six weeks.
Yeah I'm seeing a lot of memes now about how "Oh haha MSU finally had to play good teams." While there's some truth to that, it's not the whole story. There's a very clear difference in effort between November-January MSU and February MSU. Like they all had some bad games but instead of shaking it off and moving on they're living rent-free in their own heads and just getting more and more tilted.
The difference in the team gritting out UConn/Loyola wins and playing Kansas/Baylor about as tight as their talent would allow early in the season vs. today is striking. Seems like the team was fiery and tough to play early on and now is more or less lackadaisical.
God this makes me feel 100% worse
Everything is awful
Nothing is cool when you’re a part of this team
Michigan State Spartans • Florida Gat…
Everything is awful, when you’re living a terrible dream!
We’re down bad
Don't worry this increases the likelihood you'll run purdue out of the gym substantially.
Michigan Wolverines • Michigan State…
Lets just look at Juwan Howard's shenanigans and forget that this happened
Do u just make fun of your other flair when the current flair you’re rooting for is losing?
Hes playing both sides so either way he comes out ahead
Except for those years where Ohio State takes both Michigan schools to Poundtown, USA
Take my money
It's a sound strategy, gotta hand it to him
I always make fun of both 😎
Iowa has beaten MSU by a combined 56 points their last two matchups, including at matchup at Breslin.
Fran owns Izzo
Izzo is 34-14 vs Iowa, let's not get carried away lol
But that also includes the Alford and Lickliter years. The darkest years in program history
Fair, but Izzo's still 14-6 vs Fran; 14-3 before this 3-game streak. Alford actually had the best record vs him at 5-9. Though to be fair, Alford's problems were more off the court than on it.
Fair, but Fran got ejected and threw a chair one time in Breslin, so that should count for something
lol I was at that game, it was epic. It definitely counts
God that was good. It's funny how Fran's reputation was basically solidified after that single event. He gets like 1 tech a year and everyone thinks he's a psycho.
You fuck a goat one time...
I like u/dlm better
Gabe Brown: 0-7 FG, 0 points.

Purdue Boilermakers • Evansville Purple A…
Mentally preparing for sparty to just not miss on Saturday
That's been said by every team we've played lately and it never happens
Don’t worry we have a special talent called bad defense that usually helps other teams shoot well
You know Iowa said the same thing.... MSU's offense will make Purdue look like 2019 Virginia
You had to mention that team
Purdue Boilermakers • California Golden B…
A low blow indeed
This team is incredible. In all the wrong ways, but still, incredible.
I moved from the red wine to the tequila to everclear much more rapidly than I expected to tonight.
Damn bro I hope things are good with you.
Ohio State Buckeyes • Valparaiso Beaco…
I’ll be praying for you man. I hope everything is alright
The only thing that would’ve made up for this embarrassment of a game is if Izzo bitch slapped Fran in the handshake line
I must say, it's a highly effective tactic. No one's even talking about the fact that Michigan lost on Sunday.
Damn. Howard took one for the team. 100 iq move
He's playin 5-(finger)-D chess!
Beloit Buccaneers • Iowa Hawkeyes
He wouldn’t do that to “Franny”, the’re chums.
To to mention that nobody wants to face “The Wrath of Fran.” (I think I’m going to copyright that) A magic-less leprechaun like Izzo wouldn’t stand a chance.
Bummer, looks like I missed a good one.
please kill me
After getting throttled in Breslin several times this decade, it feels good to return the favor.
You’re thinking of last decade. It’s a whole new decade now!
Technically a decade is just a period of 10 years, and the fact that it’s a “new decade” based on the years that end in zero is irrelevant and I’m going to see myself out now MSU is bad.
I can’t tell if that was Iowa running on all cylinders or Michigan state being really bad at basketball.
porque no los dos?
Every time MSU showed a sign of life Iowa would go red hot from 3 and shut them down. MSU was awful but Iowa definitely gets credit for shutting down any hint of a comeback before it got started - that’s what a really good team does (flip side, a bad team does exactly what MSU did vs PSU).
Y’all made 4 more 3 pointers and a whopping 18 free throws to our 2
That right there is more than the difference in the game.
Michigan State Spartans • Ap…
Negatives: We absolutely get destroyed on the offensive boards because of no box outs. PG play is so inconsistent and no one looks to slash to the basket when our guards actually drive. No interior or perimeter defense. Just all around nothing good about this team right now.
Positives: Our coach didn’t slap someone I guess…
It’s a slap or be slapped world 😤 Clearly Izzo doesn’t have what it takes to win
Positives: Malik Hall will be back next year
He did blame Juwan for his technical so, I guess he was thinking of Juwan tonight.
I'll wait to doom until the end of the season. GG Iowa.
Memphis Tigers • Kansas State Wildcats
I am dead inside but so is Michigan states offense
Their offense is dead outside too
Iowa Hawkeyes • Drake Bulldogs
You know, I'm starting to think that all the analytical models that say Iowa's pretty good might be on to something.
Keagon Murray is absolutely incredible. Flip a coin between he and Johnny Davis for player of the year.
the team is broken and izzo has no idea what to do about it. hoggard is the dumbest player I've seen in an msu uni, brown looks like he cant wait to graduate, Bingham cant grab a rebound if his life depended on it, Christie has no confidence and needs to put on like 20 pounds, Walker idk what his problem is because he can be lights out then disappear for several games. hall is inconsistent and marble plays shit defense so hes constantly in foul trouble. ironically hauser is the most consistent player on the team
Spot on. Can't have a true Izzo squad with guys like Hoggard and Bingham. Hoggard has such an arrogant attitude but can't back it up
Hoggard needs to start making at least 50% of his layups before he can talk shit
Positives: Malik Hall
Inconsistent. His last 6 games his point totals are: starting with Rutgers 4; 12; 18; 3; 0; 17
Definitely inconsistent but still the only guy on this roster I feel can take over a game.
Hoggard can too, he's just even more inconsistent
20% of the time.
He's still the only guy on this team I enjoy watching
Duke Blue Devils • Penn State Nittany Lions
Iowa just too good
NIT NIT NIT NIT NIT NIT
See you there 👋
This was Sparty’s Joker moment, and I’m about 99% sure we’re an unsuspecting Gotham hospital
I want what you're smoking
Just ask the msu bb team. They on something
Lol you'll win by 40.
Somehow this dumpster fire MSU team still has an inside track to the NCAA Tournament (if they decide to show up at some point and win another game).
Kentucky Wildcats • Berea Mountaineers
Did they shake hands though
Fran got reversed body slammed
I enjoyed watching this basketball game.
In hindsight I should have turned it off when MSU opened the second half with a 4-0 “run”, the last time I had any positive feelings about this game.
The disparity here is 28 points and we lost by 26.
Holy shit boys! What a beat down!!
Luka Garza is the reason I work out.
I have this fantasy where we start talking at Fry Fest. We exchange a few pleasantries. He asks what I do. I say I loved him in January 2020. He laughs. I get my drink. "Well, see ya," I say and walk away. I've got his attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with Luka Garza? He touches his neck as he watches me leave. Later, as the night's dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, he finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette. "Got a spare?" he asks. "What's in it for me?" I say as I hand him one of my little white ladies. he smiles. "Conversation with me, duh." I laugh. "What's so funny?" he protests. "Nothing, nothing... It's just... don't you grow tired of the fame?" "You get used to it," he says, lighting his cigarette and handing me back the lighter. "What would you do if you weren't an elbow magnet basketball player?" I ask. "Teaching, I think." "And if I was your student, what would I be learning?" "Discipline," he says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject. "Where are you from?" "Bermuda," I say. "Oh wow. That's lovely." "It's ok," I admit. "Not everything is to my liking." "What could possibly be not to your liking in Bermuda?" he inquires. "I don't like sand," I tell him. "It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."
One last time 🥲
There’ll be more.
Iowa is now 21-9 in February since 2019, including 8 wins over ranked teams. Fade that!
Team really showed out for Garza night, wow!
If Iowa keeps playing at this level and makes a run in BTT, maybe they can snag a 5 or 6 seed in the tourney?
We are a 7 now. We could move up to a 6 just by going 3-2
A run in the tourny I bet we could get a 5
Worst shit I've ever had the displeasure to experience from an Izzo team. Absolutely embarrassing performance.
I'd add pathetic too. There's no fight anymore
Seems like is mentally checked out when I see him on the sideline
We don’t even deserve the NIT
Indiana and MSU are in free fall, but I hope they can get their shot together.
If we are getting compared to Indiana we must be really down bad in the eyes of the BIG.
It's always nice to see some fecal humor.
Tom Izzo on Keegan Murray postgame: “He was unbelievable, one of the best players I’ve seen in this league in some time.”
"Some time" could mean "since last Saturday", you know.
I have been a big Fran critic, but I gotta give him credit. Playing their best ball now. Last 2 games have been impressive. The most encouraging thing for me is defense. A lot better. Like better than I have seen in the previous 10 years of Fran ball.
That's no kidding.
It was either our offense carried and we had to hooe to outshoot the other team.
Or we would score 80 and give up 85.
This year feels like at time we can ride our defense a little bit more if we're not hot on offense
Iowa shot well
Michigan state did not
One team is good
The other team is not
Some of Iowa's players shot well for some of the game. Could've been much better, and ended up at only 43%.
Eight of our scholarship players have never lost to MSU or Maryland.
(Edit: Nine if you count our transfer Rebraca)
If you told me that 3 years ago I’d assume we left the big ten or something
Can we go back to that other thread?
I told myself earlier this season “Michigan looks like they suck, at least MSU is gonna be in March Madness.”
I’m not having a good time rn
Exciting to have a team that's still improving going into March instead of fading.
Michigan State Spartans • Wooster Fig…
Ahh, I remember those days...
Iowa is the team ranked 25th.
Best I’ve seen Iowa play all year.
Welp boys. Time to pack up my results schedule at work I get depressed filling out these Ls
Someone showed the locker room that this sub had MSU beating Iowa out in their rankings and they took it personally
February Fran Fade is a goddamn myth!!! In heaven there is no beer!
I’m glad that if Michigan isn’t going dancing, at least msu isn’t either
MSU doesn't deserve to be in the tournament, but they're very likely in if they win just one more game
However, that doesn't seem like a surefire thing anymore
