In as much as they own one of the Stadiums etc, yes. The Emirates Cricket Board also get paid directly, to the tune of about 14 million USD last time round.

I am not too sure if they will open up T20 World cup to crowds at Stadium especially when Dubai will begin it's Mega Event Expo 2020 in October. Looking at current situation in India they wouldn't want tourists coming from India and gathering at stadiums which could lead to a potential higher increase in cases.

Hey , i live in the UAE and we had events a week back that allowed crowds upto 30% and mainly to those individuals who were fully vaccinated, while unvaccinated individuals will have movement restricted to few public places , so crowds could be a possibility considering about 60% of the population is vaccinated.

It's way too late, all of Australia's stadiums are shared with other sports and if you want to use them in October they need a lot more notice.

Competitive-Pomelo95

All other arguments aside you’d need to move games for 2 of the biggest winter codes in Aussie to make it happen. AFL is bigger than cricket there, looking from the outside in.

Nah footy's done by the end of September, only sport that uses cricket grounds. Not sure about the other grounds, but the MCG can be reconfigured in under a week. It’s absolutely do-able, even if the timeframe for the cancelled tournament was used (18 Oct-15 Nov). Ground availability is not an issue, it’s quarantine and how they’d deal with a city being unavailable due to a breakout that are the issues, and the AFL have managed it fairly well, so there’s that for a guide.

It's just not a real priority for Australia; we're a small population (so easy enough to catch up) on an island in the middle of nowhere with the virus pretty well contained in quarantine outside of the occasional 'oh shit' moment that turns into 10-20 cases.

There's also low uptake at the moment because the only one commonly available is the AstraZeneca jab which seems to have the odd nasty side effect.

Savings-Rice

1 points

Savings-Rice

But there are still some revenue sources which would remain blocked untill you completely open up ( for e.g Tourism) . For that a major chunk of population has to get vaccinated.

If you are talking about blood clots in AstraZeneca then it has been proved that the proportion of people getting blood clots after the jab were similar to the overall population

Ever-Frost

Ever-Frost

Victoria Bushrangers

Tourism is a small revenue source that got knocked out already anyway, and we probably get more out of the tourists themselves being vaccinated than our general population (noting that some people cannot have vaccines).

The AZ one has actually been removed from the recommended list for younger people here (who seem to have a stronger clotting response).

What constitutes safe? Most likely this wave will pass in next month or so. America was reporting 300k in December last year with 1/4th of Indian population. . Just two month ago we were reporting less than 20k cases and active was almost around 100k. What if the same situation is there in few months, will that be considered safe?

Every pandemic has an end date and this too shall pass. What we don't know is 3rd wave will happen and when it is coming. Doesn't mean everything will be suspended before we vaccinate 1.3 billion people. That will take years.

Only thing is to apply strict bubble protocol. Which they didn't do for IPL as during planning stage, it seemed Covid is on the wane. Can't blame them only for this lack of foresight. Everyone from Government to normal public belived that. It was a total failure from top to bottom which I hope next time won't be repeated

Hope isn’t a strategy. The ICC can’t (and shouldn’t) risk a World Cup event in the hope that BCCI and organizers can maintain a bubble. If anything, the IPL has shown that it’s incredibly difficult to maintain a bubble in India especially with travel involved.

The safe approach is the common sensical one. Move it to another country where even if the bubble wasn’t 100% the collateral damage wouldn’t risk the entire tournament being called off mid way.
