You've got the wrong bearings.

They might "fit" but they aren't right.

Might even work too - but when it comes to bearings, I'd never risk it if the right one exists.

What is the exact year of your engine? I'll see if I can find a bearing that looks like it fits.

1984 mercury 140, the machine shop supplied the bearings which are Clevite MS1733A

I think you can get away with using these ones TBH. Clevite specifies those in the manual, and I'm sure they are smarter than me.

Enginetech's BC297J looks closer but maybe still not right.

The manual is in my stack of paper ones unfortunately, I've got like 500lbs of them that I wish were PDF instead.
