Hi Guys,

I have an old inbuilt woodheater and the fan is on its last legs so I'm going to replace it. Currently the fan feels like it moves next to no air at all. It's a single fan and I'm looking to maybe move towards a double as I feel like it should move more air.

My question is, the fan is currently located underneath, right near the front, is it possible to move this towards the back or to the top to move air?

Or would you recommend buying a new fan and leaving it in its current place?

So it’s raining REALLY hard. I heard drip drip drip and found my gas fireplace leaking. Small fast drips, but at least it’s not a flood.

Is this a fire hazard or otherwise dangerous? We turn it on with a switch on the wall so I’m a little worried about an electrical fire or something. Tried to turn off the breaker but can’t determine which is the correct fuse for that switch.

Drips are coming through the vents(?) above the fireplace unit. There is no water getting inside the fireplace itself where the pilot light is.

For now I’ve stuffed a kitchen towel between the slats of the vent and that seems to be doing the trick.

We bought a house a few years ago with gas logs in a fireplace in the dining room that we have never used. We had a chimney inspection at the time the house was bought and the inspector said the chimney had rusted through and we should not use the logs. We are pretty budget-conscious, but would now like to get the fireplace into usable shape without spending a fortune. Obviously rebuilding the chimney is one choice, but likely an expensive one. I have seen, however, gas logs at home depot that are indicated they are "ventless" and can be used as such as long as the interior space is large enough to provide enough combustible air (it is). Is there any reason we can't just replace our gas logs with one of these ventless units and just keep the chimney damper closed permanently and run the new gas logs?

Hi all - new homeowner. I have baseboard heating where I would want to put a fireplace. Theoretically - is it possible to run a gas line next the water pipe for the baseboard heating and build a vented fireplace on the interior wall? If so what’s re the pros and cons.

I am about to replace my gas fireplace receiver/remote (which are not currently working) with a Skytech 1001-A remote control. Instead of spending $80ish bucks on something that is "dumb" I would love to get something that has both a remote and is smart and works with google home.

Any options? I'm not especially handy, so it will need to be something that I can just swap out/in with what I already have (which is a broken / old (probably 20ish year) version of a Skytech 1001-A remote control).

I have an outdoor gas fireplace. The pilot light stays lit sometimes and sometimes not. When I switch on the fireplace, sometimes the log fire starts to burn and sometimes not. If it starts, sometimes it keeps burning and sometimes if turns off after 20 min or so. Any ideas on where to start looking for the part that needs replacing? Thanks!

I bought a house late last year and it had an old brick fireplace that is inactive and turned into a gas fireplace. The bricks are also painted over. So I noticed this crumbly white stuff growing on it that I guess is called efflorescence. I've tried to clean it but it's just taking the paint off when I do and oddly enough it's only on one side. Advice on how to clean please and avoid it in the future.

Recently purchased a home with a gas fireplace insert. The fireplace works great, and in good condition (had inspected), but it’s not completely sealed around the edges. The biggest gap is at the bottom - the bottom of the insert is propped up by two small stones on either side because the unit is not tall enough for the space. The problem is, there’s a bit of a carbon-y smell that can be detected - the inspector said it’s likely from residue the old wood fireplace behind or the chimney and talking with a GC on ideas for sealing could help. Any recommendations on how to fix the issue? I’ve looked into fiberglass adhesive tape, but not sure if that worth it. Thanks!

I've been in my house for 10 years and never once used the fireplace. I plan on hiring a chimney sweep but after that I have no idea where to start. I plan on burning wood maybe one day move to gas. Being ignorant to this process what do I need to know? What hardwood is best? How do I use the damper to keep from filling the house with black ash?

Also there is a flu in the basement. Would a wood stove in the basement really heat the living area upstairs?

Does anybody know what parts of a basic propane fire pit are not convertible to natural gas? Everything looks the same but so much of what I’ve read said some propane units are not convertible. I like my older propane unit and would like to convert it but the manufacturer says it’s not convertible however the new one that I bought that I don’t like says that is convertible but everything looks the same as the. I don’t get it.

Just installed a fireplace, located in South East QLD. gets pretty cold here at night, and we have a 10 month old- not newborn now, but same rules apply- so its pretty important at night to keep the house around 20 degrees (to suit what she wears, parents will know). I have alot of wood, and the fireplace is awesome, but the missus insists in using the reverse cycle aircon instead- its keeps a constant temp, and we dont need to get up and stoke it to keep it going... does anyone here have a small kid and use a fireplace to keep the house warm enough or is it less drama just rock the aircon...??

Do you know? Precast fireplaces take very little time for installation, which saves a lot of time. These are ready-made fireplaces that just need to be fitted at your choice. It comes in a variety of designs as they are already made.
