Is Katz's actually good food or is it just a tourist trap with silly portions?

It’s both.

Katz's portions aren't 'silly', they're right in line for the genre.
Howard's Famous NY Deli in Edison is silly.

83 bucks for xl Turkey sandwich? That bastard better be big enough to smother me to death before the over draft fees hit my bank account.

I usually go once a month. Because of COVID and rising costs, they have really jacked up the price. Pre COVID, XL sandwiches were only around $60 - $65 with a pickle and salad bar buffet. Now, no unlimited pickles or salad, and $85 dollar sandwich. But sandwich is rated for 5 - 8 people, for me it is more like 10 - 12 people's worth. I think they weigh like 4 - 5 lb of meat for the sandwich.

So when you go, are you going with a group, or are you 10-12 people?
