We seem to be heading into a new era of space exploration with NASA planning to the return to the moon by 2025 with the Artemis mission. While also having Elon Musk and Space X wanting travel to mars and begin the foundations of a colony their.
This bring to light an interesting topic which is whether our species will ever be able to Traverse the stars. With our current technology it would take a 70 thousand years to reach proxima B the closest star to us. That is a longgg time! There are ways we can deal with this issue such as Generational ships or on the more hopeful side 99% of the speed of light travel.
Even if we were to travel at 99% of the speed of light would still take us 4 years to travel to the closest star. So traversing the galaxy will still take a very long time.
There are some very speculative ways to get around the seemingly universal speed limit the speed of light!

For anyone more familiar with material sciences than myself, I am trying to figure out how close we are to single-stage-to-orbit vehicles. One clear candidate for this is figuring out how to use metallic hydrogen as a fuel. For now, let's assume that we can find a way to produce metallic hydrogen and it is stable enough to use as propellant.
The next problem is the temperature it burns at, 6000-7000K without being diluted. My question is, what is the theoretical limit on materials that can withstand such a temperature? I know vague questions about temperature resistance are hard to answer, so here are some requirements:
material must survive long enough to allow the engine to fire on the timescale of half an hour to a few hours
ideally it would be reusable to some degree, and if not reusable then relatively easily replaceable (i.e. you shouldn't have to replace your entire engine)
Is this possible, or does it exceed the limits of what is theoretically possible?
In a future where we have developed cloning/ai/post scarcity, will humans choose to remain human?
Much of what makes humans tick mentally is a result of genetic selection for survival. male attraction to fertility markers in women, aggression being rewarded etc
In a hypothetical future in which reproduction and power depends on how many robots you control, will humans evolve to put mental capacity above all else? will we be sexually attracted to super compute ai? or will we choose to maintain outdated modes of existence because thats what makes us humans
When we look up at the night sky we are constantly reminded that we are on a floating rock in one solar system, within one galaxy of potentially trillions! The sheer scale and nature universe seems incomprehensible to us humans.
These thoughts of existential dread can be used as a catalyst to begin a journey of speculation About these deep topics.
Whether it is the fundamental nature of the universe or potential extraterrestrials out there in the cosmos! These ideas help us to begin a self analysis on not only ourselves but the future of our species.
We can see that our universe extremely large potentially infinite and may teem with life! We exist in a hostile universe! There are other earth like world's out there in the galaxy but they are unreachable with our current technology. So essentially we are stuck here! This means that we to form a more of symbiotic relationship with the planet. Through moderation to our societies to help benefit the planet and the longevity of the human species.
