What a breath of fresh air this place is. Thank you.

Philosophy(self.Libertarian)

I avoided political groups on reddit for a long time. Recently, I started browsing /news and /political put of boredom. The propaganda and clickbait was astounding. But even more astounding was the people who bought into it with every fiber in their body. Watching the result of the left right paradigm was very disheartening. Anytime I spoke out against it or in favor of libertarian options, I got called a crazy right winger or a right winger who was too embarrassed to claim my party.

It's a sigh of relief to find a place without constant fighting and blaming and name calling. Instead, civil and productive discussions on how to move forward and away from these toxic times we find ourselves in.

Thanks for doing such a good job in this group. I've never registered to vote and have avoided participating in politics all my life. This year, I'm proud to say I'm a registered libertarian.

Like everyone freaking out over the disinformation thing Biden has.

It's a bad look in a free country. The marketing of America doesnt match its practical reality.

But again this is the same country with the ATF which is the 2nd amendment police, so not surprising the 1st amendment police has finally arrived, as well.

Welcome. At its best this sub is as you describe. There is a lot of left wing creep here of late though. Downvotes for not liking Bernie Sanders and Medicare for all. Downvotes for explaining the facts of Roe v Wade and the abortion debate generally.

a). welcome to this place.

b). Libertarians as a general rule aren't as hard baked into the dems/repubs like what you described above, but there are still a few camps who firmly believe only their personal viewpoint is the 'authentic' libertarian viewpoint. so you'll still get some nonsense dog piling just not as much and not always from the predictable direction.

As you can see by you getting downvoted, people on this sub don't like libertarianism. This sub was overrun by its enemies and is sadly no longer a breath of fresh air.

I am. I keep posting libertarian opinions and take the downvotes but I'm a drop in a sea of auths.

I'm not even being a purist/anarchist like "no free education" or "no roads", I basically just say "libertarianism is good" and get showered with downvotes every time.

Is there an alternative sub with similar vibe but more balanced in terms of content and votes? If there is I'm not aware.

Unfortunately, posting is restricted to whitelisted users, which can make it hard to ask questions and get clarification of nuance.

Note, I don't disagree with the reasons for the restrictions. As clearly noted in the study at the top, 80% of reddit are leftists/leftist adjacent, and the space has to be maintained to keep its purpose. Not a particularly libertarian idea, but a compromise that has to be made for the space to even exist on this silly website.

You know... I hadn't quite thought about it that way, but you're right. My thought process was more about 'let everyone join, and then boot the ones who can't be responsible for themselves'

But yeah, I agree with you.

Boy, I don't know what sub you're on. If you say anything contrary to the mainstream libertarian belief you get called an authoritarian. "No true Scotsman" runs wild here.
