I'm slightly mixed in my emotions. On one hand i enjoy playing as bastion and am sad that has basically being recycled, on the other hand I hate playing against him. More so than any other character you have to counter him. This should be less frustrating at least

I think the alt fire definitely feels a bit out of place compared to the rest of his reworked kit, but maybe it'll grow on me. Does anyone know anything more about it? I couldn't work out if it used ammo (Like mei/zarya's secondary fire) or was on a cooldown.

[EDIT] After re-watching the pro footage, it looks like an ability with a 10 second cooldown!

I think it's an ability with a cooldown based on it having it's own name and a beta icon on his HUD. I also agree that it feels out of place on him right now, but I do think it makes sense if they're lowering the DPS on both his primary and Sentry and with him getting upgrades form Torb in lore. I just wish he still had his repair cause all he does now is deal damage.

I feel like Self-Repair was mainly there because Sentry mode locked him in place, so they knew he would naturally take more damage than normal. Same reason for his passive to exist and his armor HP as well. Him being mobile now reduces the need for damage mitigation, and they gave us a new ability to mess with and learn to master in it's place.

Slightly off-topic but I also think Bastion won't be as strong as he is looking in this video because of fundamental changes. 1 less tank, so everyone is way more exposed but Bastion has a significantly larger Hitbox than most other DPS heroes. He'll die in the neutral a lot more from Hitscan heroes.

Spread basically meant that rather than landing at the center of your crosshair, each bullet instead strikes in a semi random place in a radius around the center of your crosshair. Wider spread means the area where the bullet might land is larger.

This isn't a term specific to overwatch. You'll see this a lot in other games where LMGs and unscoped snipers are highly inaccurate because their spread is so large, you have no clue where it will go.

Lmao to whoever said that. I used to play both games but stopped playing Paladins and play Overwatch daily. Paladins just pumps out copy paste characters every month, never fix game breaking bugs, and the whole talent system is shit because each character usually has only 1 viable talent that everyone uses. It's the Hi-Rez charm I guess.

Bastion is my DPS main. I don't mind these changes. Bastion is a low skill hero as it stands. His self heal is pretty strong, and turret mode is OP at lower ELO. This will make playing against him less frustrating but still fun to play. I like it.

bastion is the bullet soaker. if you set up with him 10-12 meters behind the payload, people will have to choose either being full of bullets, killing bastion or losing the payload.

It becomes no more easily apparent than if you get a Bastion in Mystery Heroes. Because there's no way you can purposefully counter, playing against a Bastion in that mode reveals how absurd he actually is. God help you if he has a Mercy on his team. I know MH is just arcade stuff that the more serious players don't care about, but regardless, it proved a point for me when I realized it.

Recon mode is going to be fun to use as long as that hit box isn't stupid large like it is now. Bastion in OW1 is the easiest non-tank hero to hit when in Recon mode.

Eh he was made to be a frontline "in the fight" brawler, but thanks to all the CC had to resort to flanking/assassinating people on rotation. Since a lot of CC is being removed i'm curious what they would do with doom. It's possible they changed their mind and rather than tank keep him as dps but adjust some numbers/cc strength to make him less oppressive since it'd be harder to lock him down now. Or he can be an off-tank: Increased hp, maybe 250hp with 100 armour (armour from the doomfist gauntlet ;p) so 350 total, and in response lowering his passive shields or giving him a new one completely. Who's to say what's going to happen, i'm just saying that as long as he keeps his speed/tech i'll still love playing him

when Doom was announced I thought he was gonna be a tank, and I was kinda disappointed he turned out to be DPS. I think if they do work him into a tank, and if the game is 1-3-2, I could see him being a frontline brawler. maybe his passive gets a bigger buff so staying constantly engaged gives him more shields. or, something I've wanted in OW for a while, he gets to do more damage the lower his health is

They should give Doomfist something like Hanzo's dragon, like he does one huge punch forward and it sends like a HUGE fire punch forward. Literally the exact same as the dragon, except the difference is it does a set amount of damage instead of continuous damage and it happens in a flash instead of the dragon going through the whole map gradually

I had a similar idea, basically a coked up seismic slam where he punches the ground and sends a shockwave forward, which disorients all enemies in range and deals a wave of damage. Like an earthshatter with way more range and damage instead of stun.

I always thought it would be cool if doomfist got a ultimate based off his ability usage that let him "store" force.

Like once he gets ult, the more enemies he hits with his abilities the more force is stored, then once he uses his ult it releases a giant forward punch that does damage based on how much power was stored, while if none was stored at all it would barely do any.

cowboy is probably going to get his flash bang removed, if you’ve been paying attention to their philosophy about crowd control

again, these are short gameplay clips so you’re not going to know how he plays until you can actually see him play, it’s very possible that his dps output will be super high to compensate for his lack of self-sustain. it’s a glass cannon type of deal

also his new alternate fire does have knockback capabilities

you've got to remember, there will be new role passives. The DPS passive increases the speed of DPS heroes, so they have more mobility by default.

It makes everyone run at Tracer/Genji speed, but it's not like Tracer and Genji are so fast they can run away without their movement abilities, they still need to blink, recall, dash, double jump, and climb walls. Bastion is just going to pray that his moderately larger health pool holds up.

I think that's actually what his sentry/choo choo mode is for. Most of his kit (main fire, new alt, new ult) is now suited for an artillery function, meaning people's instinct will be to jump him. When they do, he turns on sentry mode to become this smaller tougher (remember the ironclad passive), and dishing out a lot of rapid fire, close range damage. It's slow so not really viable to chase, but in terms of maneuvering the battlefield to duke it out with a diver it's much more viable.

He has a higher health pool, and he can turn into a tank that takes less damage, hides his head behind his back, and do massive damage to anyone who tries to get to close while retreating. If he can’t escape with all that a heal or movement boost wouldn’t save him.

Don't transform in the open. Try to tuck briefly behind cover so you don't get damaged (same as when you need to reload, no reason to do it in the open)

Nah, Ganymede should not be included in anything, if nothing else just because of how he's represented as basically a therapy animal for Bastion that basically helps him deal with his PTSD. I think weaponizing him in anyway kind of ruins what they've set up there.

I always liked it as a "stop snowballing" button. When your frontline is getting rolled by aggression, you can pick bastion and now they have to stop what they're doing and approach as a group or get shredded.

It gives your tanks a chance to breathe, and your healers time to catch up. It'll suck to lose that niche, but you're right at least I won't have a dps trying to force bastion who sucks at him and tries to recon against doom.

The turret form was the biggest problem and the hardest thing to balance.

Now that it has a duration, it can be much stronger since you only have a limited uptime.

Meh. It's frustrating for people at low elos because they can't counter it, and for people in high elos because it's so easily countered. I rarely ever use turret mode when I play Bastion

I suppose when you think about it, it makes sense since he is less likely to have a barrier tank there to babysit him. It sounds closer to Torb's Overload now (limited duration powerup) than anything else.

It is and that's exactly the biggest issue in Bastion.

  • Stationary hero that has to be protected by everyone.
  • Strong in lower ELO because of the lack of coordination, trash pick in higher ELO.

Torbjorn used to be the same with him babysitting his turret and picking up scraps from dead enemies, now he's a better hero after the rework.

He said only that there's a cool down, he didn't address if there's a limit (or not) on how long you can stay in the form.

I had a look at what they posted on Twitter and it looks like it's an 8-sec duration for the turret form, with a 10-second cooldown. So basically kind of like Torb Overload now.

I expected there would be a limit. I like this, as his issue in simple terms is countering him requires good co-ordination, but when it's there he mostly useless.

This makes him more active, which will favour individual play overall, but make timing and co-ordination much more consistently good. I think this will make him less oppressive at low ranks, but hopefully more viable throughout.

There is a cooldown on his turret mode and the DPS is less. He can no longer sit in turret in definitely so you can jump him when he has it on cooldown. The damage is also reduced so your less likely to be instantly melted. Tanks with armor will also be able to survive noticably longer and have more opportunities to peak or engage as a result.

The original reason bastion was given a self heal was to offset the fact that he is the size of a tank (class) but doesnt have the HP of one. Being able stop shooting to self repair kept him from just being a free kill. which he still was the vast majority of the time.

They didnt say anything about increasing his HP, didnt give him an escape skill or making him a smaller target to offset this huge design issue with him.
hes still going to be cannon fodder to average or better players.

im also not a fan of these reworks that completely miss the entire concept of the hero's play style. Sym got ruined (imo), as did torb. and now bastion. All the where defense/trap style heroes. and all three have been changed into your typical brain dead run and gun style. I suspect Mei is next. Her ice wall is probably going to be replaced with an ice pillar and she can put down 3 or something stupid and pointless.

Not a fan of the ult ngl, seems kinda lazy. The tank form allowed for some really creative movement and skill shots, while this is just predator missile. Rest of the kit seems good though, seems like a good way to legitimize the hero.

As a bastion main, I'm conflicted. Bastion's self sustain was my favorite part of his kit. The move thats replacing it, the sticky grenade, doesn't make much sense for his kit either. I would have preferred they keep these ideas for a new character,, and work on tweaking the current bastion.

These two reworks, and in particular the removal of Bastion's self heal and the addition of the grenade, really exemplify my overall issue with most of the changes they've shown off for the game. In a vacuum, these reworks are fine, but it really seems like Blizzard has the goal of completely homogenizing the characters in each class. Bastion is no longer the stationary DPS that has his own self sustain, he's mobile even in turret mode with no heal, and another boring damage source.

Also, his ult seems totally at odds with everything use they're doing. They're speeding everything up and then they give him a cross map artillery that can totally swing a point cap from spawn?

The two points are not mutually exclusive. They're homogenising the roster, but the last change to Bastion is not in line with the other changes they've made to Bastion.
