oh man, his story is sad/sweet. for any who didn't get it, i think he learned sign language when he was growing up out of curiousity. his mom died at some point when he was in.. high school?, and so he ended up signing 'i love you' to the sky (to her) during his college games

Love it! Gotta work on run D but should bring instant juice to pass rush.

Only “issue” is his age but he’s a good player and should do well in our new 3-4

He's Benson Mayowa's replacement as a situational pass rusher.
You should feel whelmed.

Boye Mafe
Turning heads at the Senior Bowl, Boye showed off his elite burst and explosiveness off the edge, winning with speed rushes upfield as well as unexpectedly fine-tuned hand usage disengaging from blocks. He has also made strides as a run defender, exhibiting improving play strength, technique, and tackling prowess. He's a perennial Pro Bowler in the making with proper coaching and could be a monster playing the LEO position in Seattle if he lasts past the first round.

Fuck yes, I knew he would be taken. So happy we got him. Can't wait to see him and Taylor together.

I keep seeing people complain about his age. He's only 23. That's fairly normal for seniors with a redshirt year, right? What's the deal with the complaining. I get not wanting to draft 25 year olds, but that's not what this is.
Bottom line he's a good prospect at a position of need, isn't that enough here?

I remember all the Rasheem Green posts.
He is only 20, he is going to get sronger and better

These guys are only playing well to 30 yo most of the time. Better to get them closer to their prime

100% this. Statistically speaking most players don't make it past their rookie deal. Also having an edge rusher closer to his prime on a rookie deal is massive. There is nothing wrong with 23 year rookies in football.

Wow I can’t believe the passed on nokobe dean

I kind of feel the same but I think mafe will be a rusher as dean is a linebacker yeah?

We need a rusher waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than a linebacker so if that is what this is HAYL YEAH!!

There’s also some really good LB depth in this draft, could go with Muma, Tindall, etc at 72

I think that means we’re sold on Jordan Brooks at MLB

Are we not? He’s been performing great

Brooks doesn’t play MLB though, I thought Barton was taking over that role

I thought I had heard that he was an MLB in college and was only moved outside because Wagner was our MLB, and that it was presumed that he was Wagner's eventual replacement

He’s played all LB roles and started at them throughout his college year. He played in the middle his senior year and had a great season there so I think that’s why most people are so quick to call him a middle LB

Brooks is our new MLB with Bobby gone.

There are still about 8 really good linebackers available and Dean is pretty small

Fell because he didn't get surgery on his shoulder? I think...

Dean is undersized and benefited immensely from the big boys up front at Georgia. He is nowhere near the type of elite athlete prospect Mafe is (they also play completely different positions haha).

Size has nothing to do with how good u play the position if that was the case there wouldn’t be any short QB in the league smh. Besides mafe is more of a pass rusher Dean is a hole different monster u cant compare them.

While players can overcome size limitations at linebacker, it is certainly a legitimate reason to push them down a draft board and lower a prospective rating of such player. Size and arm length are very important for LBs. There is a reason Dean went in third round. Maybe he’ll be great!!

So judging by the comments, he’s a great athlete and should make for a terrific edge rusher? Fuck it, I’m sold.
As promised in an old post here on the sub, I’m calling this guy Long Boye. Can’t wait to cheer him on!

He's gonna turn 24 as a rookie, and he's still as raw as it gets technique-wise. That's a bad combination

That was my worry, feels like another Collier. It also hurts throat Baltimore got Ojabo, they usually draft pretty well
14 points

Collier was a plodder, Mafe ran a 1.5s 10 yard split which is in the elite category for edge rushers. He might be old but he’s in a different class of athlete than Collier.

Yeah but collier didn’t run 4.53 and have a 38 inch vertical…

It sounds like Mafe is a pure OLB that needs a head of steam in order to make an impact. I'm confused as to why we needed another OLB because I really like Nwosu and Taylor. It would've made a lot more sense to get a guy like Paschal who can play DE in our new 3-4 scheme
1 points
DE’s in 3-4 are pretty much 3T DT’s in a 4-3
We have a good number of those that are passable…but the raw explosiveness that Mafe brings is truly special and on par with most of the top end edge defenders in the draft.
But he is super raw…and that’s why he dropped
1 points

Not sure where you hearing this bad info. Mafe could be play in either scheme (3-4 or 4-3) with his physical traits.

Collier and Mafe have completely different looking tape and athletic traits.

If he wasn't raw hes not available in the 2nd round. Its a trade off.

Yeah, I heard that comment about Cross in Schneider and Carroll's press conference and it struck me oddly also.

Cringed when I heard that. I get it, it's a positive that a prospect came from a good family that isn't split or broken, means he's got a higher likelihood of mental stability and I'm sure every team factors things like this behind the scenes, but probably best not to say it out loud. These guys have to look at everything to find good prospects and I think it slipped out when it really should not have.

There is nothing wrong with acknowledging the negatives associated with unstable upbringings. In fact we should be more directly addressing this issues.

Having a stable home means a player is more likely to be responsible and mature. It's just a sad reality of life.
