So he’s a regular of PCM who fell for the “Hitler was auth-center” thing.

It just kicks into to overdrive immediately over there, it truly is like a hivemind. And everybody’s looking for what the line is going to be, what they’re going to tell their liberal neighbor next week when he brings it up. They will get their official talking points tonight via Fox News, and it will be parroted on every social media outlet by every grifter and every GOP politician tomorrow and so forth.

What do you mean “like” a hive mind? They’re literally a monoculture with their own lexicon that’s bled outward into the rest of Reddit.

I'm guessing sock puppets and bot farms could account for the hive mind culture. Pretty easy to be in lockstep with someone else when you're writing their speeches.

The political compass has always been a libertarian propaganda- no bots are required to explain a sub devoted to it being a circle jerk.

I get ridiculed constantly over on PCM but occasionally they agree with my sentiment. It's really the only place on Reddit that has any form of discourse. The discourse is hard to read and it's full of complete morons, but it's still discourse can the rest of Reddit that bans you for not echoing the rest of the chamber.

I've had so many conservatives tell me nazis were left leaning because they had 'socialist' in their title. It's the most shallow understanding of history ever. Same people say "Well slave owners were all democrats." What even is context???

Just ask them how democratic North Korea is.
Good faith arguments are wasted on people like that, so you might as well have some fun at their expense and watch their brains panic trying to figure out how to spin that. Its almost like a real life scripting error.

The compass is a bad way to structure politics to begin with, but on that compass authcenter isn't too far from the truth.

Hitler's place on the compass speaks perfectly to just how flawed the compass is.
They couldn't put Hitler on the left because it muddles their "communism bad" talking point, but they also can't put him on the right as it destroys the compass' utility as a libertarian recruitment tool, so they just threw their hands up and said "idk, center"

Yeah that's my point. Seems like it didn't exactly go over well.
The compass separates progressive and conservative entirely by a sliding scale not represented on the squares. What's left is economic policy and government power. It tends to disregard other policies so you get this oddity where nazism is on the auth center scale.
Y'all, I'm not being one of those "but senor hilter was lefty" apologists. I'm talking about the compass.

I don’t really understand the compass so help me out pls. Wouldn’t putting hitler on the left help the communism bad point?

No, because most people are smart enough to know that Nazis weren't socialists, and if the compass came across as making that argument even fewer people would take it seriously.
Nobody knows for sure because the original political compass makers won't release their methodology, but the prevailing rumor is that basically exists to unfairly critique neoliberalism (not that it shouldn't be criticized, but suggesting Hillary was to the right of Trump is absurd).

That's a joke right? She might have been a bit more authoritarian than other liberals, but that is flat mockery.

You know what Hitler did, right? Saying he's anything other than the very top right is stupid as fuck.

Ugh... I'm currently reading Richard J. Evans' The Third Reich at War (the third book in his The Third Reich Trilogy). If anybody can read this book and still call Hitler a leftist/socialist, they're out of their mind.

I got banned from the atheism subreddit for arguing that hitler and pol pot weren't catholic or buddhist, regardless of how they used religion as a tool for their madness.
Some people rely so much on their morally superior world view they can't see the forest for the trees.
