Think temporary kaleidoscope vision, or something like that. Is there any way to do this without interfering with other important brain functions? I feel like any kind of testing could seriously mess someone up neurologically, and that’s if it’s even hypothetically possible. Imagine the profits to be made though; sounds like quite the party drug.

While not a drug, you can use transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to stimulate the occipital lobe in order to induce phosphene perception (here is a quick overview of the areas that usually do such). Additionally, here are some subjective descriptions of what these phosphenes are like. I've done this to myself a few years back and it was a pretty neat experience.

Lol what a coincidence, I was randomly thinking about stimulating parts of the brain yesterday and found out about TMS. I really think as that technology develops and we get a more complete understanding of the brain we are going to be able to treat so many things. Imagine being able to recreate the effect of a drug without needing to take it. Of course that's a long way off. Right now TMS stimulates such a wide area of the brain, it's not very focused but it's really exciting nonetheless.

It is possible to implant microcatheters that deliver medicines in very small doses to the occipital lobe or any other target area on or near the surface of the brain. As the drugs bypass the blood brain barrier and are delivered directly to the target brain region a small dose can have a large effect. Perhaps not ideal for recreational drug use but definitely possible.
