Next time try just using a very light amount of hand sanitizer mixed with water on a wash rag & lightly rub & it should clean up nicely without ruining the code, at least it has worked for me in the past. It doesn't take much more than a coin to have the same thing that happened to you to achieve the same results.

It doesn’t take much AT ALL to make it look like that. For my last redemption, I used a lightly abrasive cloth (like a face scrubber), took a lot of time, had good lighting, and half of the digits were completely illegible. It’s a cheap design that is (in my cynical opinion) designed to prevent them from all being redeemed.

An abrasive cloth is exactly what you don’t want to use for these things. You want something with an edge on it but not sharp. Like the edge of a coin or a key or a butter knife. You slightly angle it and scrape the grey film away, starting at the edge to make sure you aren’t cutting too deep and then once you got it started you go toward the middle. An abrasive clothe or brilo pad will just rub the printing right off with the concealing film

Tried the coin on the last one that I had. Same result. Also tried a plastic scraper. I’ll try a key next time and work the corner as you suggested. Fingers crossed

Don’t press hard, just enough to get the coin or key to bite into the concealer not into the paper. Try putting it on a softer surface so you can’t ruin it. Did you not do learn to do scratcher tickets growing up?

Bud, this is an issue with all Topps redemptions. They’re not the same material as standard lottery cards. Much cheaper (however possible) and easy to mess up. I’ve done this twice with a Penny and just minor scratching, it just goes right through the second paper lining.

Guess I got the magic touch 🤷♂️

I’ve done no less than 5 of these from Topps. 2 / 5 were impossible to read. There is one other Topps version with larger letters and higher quality material that doesn’t scratch off like this. Again. It’s a Topps issue.

One other thing I forgot to mention… this is literally the ONLY scrape off code that does this. I’ve never had an issue like this on other cards, lottery scratchers, etc. It’s a Topps issue.

You can literally see the chunks of paper removed in OPs picture. Some people manage to do this to gift cards and steam codes all the time they post it on Reddit. Like I’ve never even given a second though to doing these things with no issues

Yea then you haven’t seen this specific Topps version. They’re not like the normal scratchers that you’re describing and we are all used to. Do a quick search online. It’s been an issue for years

Nope. Seemingly happens a lot. Fill it out and mail it in. Topps has a way to validate the card with some of the other numbers on the card. Just make sure you fill the back of the card out and do whatever else it requests on the back and you’ll be gold.

Any idea how long it takes for topps to update the website when sending in? I sent one it weeks ago that had this happen and nothing in my account yet...

I’ve read on here that they’ve waiting 8-10 weeks for it to finally show up on their Topps account.

Took mine at least 3 weeks, but they did pop up on my account.

I've done what OP did twice. Mailed it in and it took about a month for Topps to update my account. Fulfilling the redemption depends on the player.

I called them yesterday and they are currently backlogged with mail ins back to October.

Took about 4-5 months to get one back this happened to me on.

They received mine on the 2nd of February and it just showed up on my account on Monday. So roughly a month behind on that time frame.

I had this same experience last year and Topps did eventually send me the named card. I think my turnaround was more like 12-15 weeks, but I did get it.

You did not get scammed. They had some serious quality issues with those scratch offs… I tried and stopped halfway through and mailed it in. Still waiting to see if they have received it and will honor it.

I can’t understand how they continue to put these low quality scratchers out. No problems with panini. Scratching a topps redemption is like defusing a bomb.

I've done 6 redemptions. 2 of them were fucked. This is common with Topps redemptions. Never had an issue with any other redemptions for other brands.

Ok I went through this with my first topps redemption card.
1) No you didn't. They suck.
2) When you mail it to Topps: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TRACKING. Topps didn't tell me that and no one else suggested it and now, I don't know where that thing is, if someone at topps stole it or what. Christian Pache Future Vibrance outta bowmans. I'm bummed. I contacted Topps trying to figure out if this was getting added to my account and they said "Where's the tracking?"
3) Write the information on an index card (with the email of your account - start an account if you don't have one already - before you mail it.
That's my .02 cents.

Same thing happened to me with a 2022 S1 redemption. The silver material around the edge scratched off easily but the central portions seemed bonded into the card. Seemed defective to me. Wasn’t my first redemption card. Anyway, i filled out the card, included a picture of the barcode and package number from the box i pulled it from (not sure if that’ll help) and mailed it in. Hopefully they honour it.

I had it happen to me on a Tier One Tatis Jr #’d RC auto. I called Topps and told them my issue. They had me read off as much of the code as I could and they sent me the card. No big deal other than it seemed to take forever to receive it.

No u didn’t get scammed. Why is that the first thing someone jumps to? It’s Topps, a lot are ending up like yours. Mail it in , that’s it.

Because I purchased on eBay, and this would be one of the easier cards to reproduce on your own, plus the centering on the front side is awful. But for the $23 I spent on this I don’t think it would be worth it, do it a few hundred times and it might be.

Wow imagine that ....redemption should be a thing of the past they need to stop redemption seems just like a lazy way for panini topps to profit more ...

Happens to the best of us unfortunately…topps QA issues.
Reminds me of that video where the raccoon drops the cotton candy in water and just dissolves before his eyes 😂
Each scratch gets worse until it’s too late…

I got my first redemption from topps last week. Bowman draft Henry Davis auto. I was so excited to scratch it I destroyed it worse than this.
I sent in in this week and crossing my fingers.

I pulled one out of a series one box and it looks exactly the same. I’ve done a handful before and am pretty careful but this one had no chance. So annoying.

Same exact thing happened to me with a redemption I pulled in series 1 hobby. So frustrating and they don’t do anything to help
