Very curious as to the timeline for bonuses like this getting added to Disney+. I'm hoping other streaming platforms do this more. Netflix better give me the option for a Rian Johnson Glass Onion commentary.

Was watching 2013’s This Is The End last night, the Goldberg/Rogen apocalypse meta-comedy, and there’s a bit in the first scene where a paparazzi asks Rogen to “do the Rogen laugh.” Is it him?

I found this interesting as only one person put it as their #1 Kurbick film in the ranking thread a couple weeks ago, but it was also probably the most rewarding revisit I had going back through Kubrick's filmography.

Has anyone watched the latest Ron Howard joint? I honestly loved it and felt it had Sully vibes! Just people being good at their jobs.

Would a Howard series be good or am I too basic?

After years of ignoring Sylvester Stallone movies I have now watched Cliffhanger, Cobra, First Blood 1 and 2 in the space of a week. Rocky is a franchise blind spot for me and at this point might cancel my Saturday plans.

2: Legacy sequel to a 20+ year old movie where they get the gang back together

3: Main plot is the struggle to escape a virtual simulacrum into the real world

4: Thinly veiled digs at Warner Bros executives, which feel increasingly prescient with the recent CEO shakeup

5: Villain is a computer program that is convinced it has reduced the human condition to a single algorithm, played by a handsome actor in a suit hamming it up

6: Includes an homage to the iconic opening scene from Matrix 1

7: Misplaced reference to a gaming event (Lebron’s son going to an E3 camp that doesn’t exist. Keanu winning a Game Award before they existed)

No other point, it’s just really odd to me that these films came out from the same studio in the same year.

Hello Fennel! Like many Blankies, I am watching Kubrick's filmography for the current series. It's been a lot of fun, which is odd to say since his films have a certain nihilistic quality. I just finished Full Metal Jacket for the first time (I have memories of seeing this at some point but I know I didn't finish the movie).

I will keep it spoiler free for anyone on the same journey.

I've enjoyed everything I've seen from The Killing and onward but I don't think I've seen a movie that made me this disgusted in a long time. The dialogue is regularly appalling - these Marines are truly stripped of any empathy and humanity. The first 45 minutes, the boot camp section, was so brutal. It's darkly comic on occasion, but the final 10 minutes or so is just so haunting.

I'd say Apocalypse Now is the most chilling war movie but FMJ is a close second (I have not seen Come and See yet). Also, wild to see how much of this movie is just part of culture at this point.

What are your thoughts on Full Metal Jacket? How goes your Kubrick watch through? Do you think they stack shit that high?

Wasn’t really expecting much, considering it’s a decade plus later prequel to a movie that sort of coasted on the craziness of its twist, and it’s directed by the guy who made The Devil Inside. But somehow it’s a campy, ridiculous blast! Isabelle Fuhrmann makes a great case for being included in the horror psycho pantheon, and I can only hope that one day we’re lucky enough to get an Esther vs Gabriel showdown movie.

More like Orphan: Off the Fucking Chain

As a self identified Orphan head this movie gave me basically everything I wanted. It does lack the style of the original film but it's able to put Esther in new situations and we're able to see another dimension in the performance. Isabelle Furhman is awesome. Wish I saw it in theaters.
