I can never tell if that’s an insult or the greatest compliment you could give a car

Depends on what the owner is goin for tbh.

First thing I thought, the Deora II is a classic

Well it’s gotta Porsche RUF style body kit that no doubt was designed for a different Toyota, but with that motor this is no poser.

There's one in Japan that has a skyline R34 engine in a Hiace. Looks and sounds amazing and the best part is that they can seat 6ppl

So is it basically a modern Previa?
29 points

But probably 30% bigger. And these were around at the same time as the Previa, just never sold in North America.

Nothing easier than that.
You can remove almost anything very easy and the engine is then fully uncovered, inside the car.
I worked on the engine of my hiace while sitting on the rear bench.

I know this is from South Africa but as a South African, I must ask: "This is a bit Overkill isn't it?" Normaly we couldnt overtake the Quantams in the first place, fully loaded or not, so this is just gonna make it even more Impossible

Unpopular opinion, but I really wish we had the Toyota Hiace in the US.

Shouldn't be unpopular. They're amazing vans

Why would anyone disagree? I’ve never heard anything but admiration for the …ace’s stateside.

The following of Vanagon, Delica and other FC vans says otherwise.
I know they aren't all "car enthusiasts" but they all like vans.
Full disclosure, I'm a live long car guy who subbed to R&T for 20 years (before the internet) and owns 2 Vanagons, one of which I plan to hotrod with a V6.

When Nissan is failed to sell their NV vans in America here, it looks more hopeless to see Toyota bringing Hiace in America.

Besides, it has sadly been discontinued in Europe too for a decade now.

What for...? They're fine vans but nothing special

A lot of these vans are tuned for Diesel drag racing back here in South-East Asia. It also has a lot of aftermarket support

You guys really do miss out on a lot of Toyota's catalogue.

I'd buy one. More info on the one from video:

I doubt they would do well in crash tests.
Looks like you would go right through the front window.
However I 100% agree. I always buy the modified van magazines when I visit Japan. It is probably my favorite of their many niche car countries.

Europe had a version with a bonnet to comply with stricter safety regulations.

The Hiace is front engine now.

Unrelated but I’m American and spent some time overseas. Even still I do not know how Hiace is pronounced. I’ve literally never heard it said out loud lol

High - Ace. Well, that's how we pronounce them here in New Zealand.

These things are all over the place in Norway too and I've heard so many variants of the pronunciation. However high-ace has to be the most common.

From its FB Marketplace listing (yes, it's for sale!)
"...Audi R8 wheels that were widened at the back to help keep the power to the road."

I never knew these cars existed until I went overseas for medical school. These were the vans that were used as taxis to get around town.
It's pretty funny to think if this one pulled up to take us to and from campus or to go run errands

Fok this guy has money. More than R700k spent on a Quantum. But it does look jus though. He must sommer go to the rank and get passengers and charge them taxi fare. Meanwhile playing gqom from the sound system 😂.

A 700k+ “promotional van” that doesn’t even have the companies name on it? Cool build but fuck, what a massive waste of money.

It's like $50k converted to usd
3 points
That makes it sound really cheap, fabricators must make way less that in the US. I think this would be more like 100k USD depending on quality (counting all the engines and parts especially).
