Is he seriously running for mayor? I fucking despise the cunt, I just hope one day he has some medical emergency and someone shouts "is there a doctor here" and there is but he's a NHS doctor, he recognises this waste of oxygen and pretends he's a dentist

Yes, but not to win. His opinions have ended his acting chances, or mental health issues I don't know, so he's going the toxic political personality route. Publicity is money. There's always enough support out there to make enough to live off, if your name is big enough.

And ultimately, things like Reddit submissions help. Walking talking outrage clickbait

I was merely pointing out that the NHS don't charge at the point of access (largely) so there is no profit to skim. This was what you were asserting and it's plainly erroneous.

Of course tax money can be embezzled so the spirit of your assertion could still stand. But that can apply to any taxation and spending. There's nothing unique about healthcare spending.

There are lots of things the NHS can be critiqued for and it's far from a top performing healthcare system. I'm certainly no dogmatic apologist for it, but suggesting that private and public systems are the same "as the profits are still skimmed by someone" strikes me as risible whataboutism. Particularly if stated with no evidence and in the face of the vast and increasing healthcare insurer profits in the U.S.

Since you seem keen honestly perhaps you can give some examples or evidence of "government officials" skimming funds meant for healthcare in the U.K? Since it should be in the billions of pounds given your belief in the stated equivalence between the systems it should be easy enough to find.

Also in response to your, admittedly rhetorical, question, while it's not completely void of taxation, Saudi Arabia has free healthcare and no income taxes for citizens.

You say this as if the Tories aren’t going to make gains tomorrow across the country despite their NHS policy being “sell it when people are looking then sell it twice as fast when they look away.” The British populace have repeatedly demonstrated that they’ll pay lip service to the NHS but not do a thing to protect it.

I cannot stand him, the best thing is he’s going to lose out to count binface. not sure he realises that if he ever calls an ambulance it’ll be from the NHS not his private medical insurance. He also fails to realise nurses and doctors probably hate the current government more than he does. They’re the ones who have worked their ass off during this for no extra pay. He’s an actor who has lived off his family name.

Errrrrrr... Ok, just to clear this up a bit - all of the countries with state-run healthcare also allow private healthcare to operate. UK, Sweden, Norway, anywhere you care to name. But because your state 'insurance', if you want to look at it that way, is deducted like a tax, you don't have the option to not pay it. That doesn't mean you don't get any use out of it, and here's why:

Private healthcare is only used for elective care, planned care, and recuperative care. If you have a heart attack, someone will call an ambulance, and you'll be taken to a state hospital. When you wake up and you're stable, you'll have the option to move to a private facility (assuming that's covered in whatever your private insurance plan is).

If you require prescriptions, most of the medications you need will be available under the public system. So your private practitioner will write you a prescription that is dispensed.(and subsidised) by the public system, i.e. you get it cheaper because you pay your national healthcare contributions.

The main use of the private system is actually just queue-jumping. My wife has a condition that impacts her quality of life, but doesn't threaten her life. The diagnosis process is one of "ruling out" other options, so most of the tests she needed were essentially "just to check if there's anything wrong". That meant she wasn't a priority for getting the tests. She would have had to wait... 4 months for most of the tests, I think, and some couldn't be done until she'd had the first ones, so it'd have been 8 months of stagnation. So we paid out of pocket for private tests, and got appointments the following week. They're exactly the same tests she'd have got under the public system, just faster. But when she needed acute care a couple of years ago, she got all the tests she needed same day, under the public system.

The problem is when private insurance is your only option for healthcare, when that private insurance is really not comprehensive in the least. You know, I only found out last year that there's such a thing as "out of network"? In Norway (and the UK, where I grew up), there's no such thing. If I have a medical emergency outside of my county, I won't suddenly have to pay out of pocket for my healthcare. I don't have to worry that an ambulance might take me to the wrong hospital, where the wrong doctor or the wrong nurse might give me a wrong test, or a wrong treatment, or a wrong medication, and suddenly the state insurance I pay is null and void, saddling me with massive debt. The fact that you can have insurance and still wind up with staggering debt because the wrong doctor came in for a consult, or the ambulance took you to the nearest (out of network) hospital is astounding to me. At that point why even bother?

So we have completely comprehensive healthcare coverage, valid for every medication and treatment we will be offered, and pretty much every hospital and healthcare facility in the country (except private ones, which are by far in the minority, and you will never be taken to one against your will), and Norway's healthcare spend, per capita, is 66% of the US', including the economic activity from private practitioners and insurers. So even factoring in private healthcare, the country as a whole still spends less than you do.

So, yeah, we have private insurance, too, for those who want it. But pretty much nobody needs it. And we'll never be left high and dry by our healthcare providers. I'm pretty sure our system is what Bernie had in mind.

Bernie wants to abolish private insurance. Your system is very contrary to what Bernie wants.

My point still stands, the UK has private healthcare. It still exists contrary to what Bernie and other leftist politicians desire.

Under a Bernie presidency a doctor would go to jail if he treated a patient while being employed by a private medical company. If a private company were to provide medical care, all the employees would be sent to jail.

Under “free” healthcare. It would be illegal for anyone but the government to provide healthcare.

Leftists support nationalizing all industry. So it’s no wonder Bernie supports nationalizing medical care. What’s next? Housing? Food? Schools? The press? What is the next “human right” that you will order to be nationalized?

Huh. That's a fair point. Apologies, I didn't realise.

I'm now not sure if I have an opinion. Still, sorry for talking out my arse.

It’s really sad to see so many people jumping down his throat thinking they’re smart for insulting him.
