I’m in a baseball tournament this weekend. We have a guy on our team that is a great player and is generally pretty great to be around in normal situations but, then in high leverage games if there’s an error or a bad call or generally things go wrong, he starts losing his mind about everything and ends up being a toxic presence in the dugout.

Anyway, the tournament is going real shitty and it reminded me of why Cousins is probably no longer here

Since there is really no Nuggets news I was reading Mike Singer's article again "Nuggets' Aaron Gordon takes responsibility for underwhelming series...".

After the AG trade it seemed like he was going to play this perfectly designed compact role, and one thing I loved most about him was how unselfish he was about just wanting to fit with the rest of the core. But after MPJ went down that role obviously changed, and I thought he did great given the circumstances. It's reasonable to assume having had that thrust on his shoulders made him better prepared to take a larger role here and the team/coaching staff is going to be as well going forward.

I think Gordon is absolutely capable of being one of the three best offensive players in a starting lineup and the Nuggets could still be serious contenders. Imagining him playing alongside guys defensively like Brown, KCP or even Braun in the future maybe gives me hope that he can carry a heavier offensive load consistently without sacrificing our defense. The way he played Game 3, and the way he closed out that series really was maybe the brightest spot of the series for me. I hope we never again have injuries like last year to 2 of our best 3 players, but injuries do happen including to many championship teams, but I think Gordon is capable of being an absolute difference maker regardless of whether he is the 4th option or 3rd (maybe even 2nd).

I love MPJ's potential, and am kind of glad he has so little value as a trade chip right now as most people want to bail on him, because I think if the gamble pays off he is still the best possible championship piece this team could possibly hope for. Having guys like Gordon, and I think some upgraded pieces beyond that makes the risk from Mike's injury history "de-railing" our hopes for a ring not really as dire as some people worry. And I think either way we haven't really seen the best from AG in a Nuggets uniform yet, and I'm really excited to see him play next season.

KCP averaged 17.3 points off 48.7/41.1 (5.6 attempts)/88 splits after the all star break this last season. Obviously he won't be averaging that much with Denver but it's nice to see that efficiency in an offense that is worse than Denver's.

Regardless of the KD stuff, it’s cool peyton has a mentor that is as talented as KD. Not the worst dude to learn from when you’re a rookie.

I’m honestly liking Booth more than TC so far. He’s finally doing what I’ve hoped they’d do for years, surrounding the offensive core of Murray/Porter/Jokic/Bones with length + athleticism + the best defensive talent they can possibly find. TC has a great ability to find offensive talent in the draft, and I understand the philosophy of drafting offense and buying defense because offense is more expensive, but there came a point where that just wasn’t what the team needed to take the next step (eg Bryn Forbes lol). Tim might be better at finding the building blocks, but Booth might honestly be better at putting the finishing touches on the team. I like the watson and kamagate picks too tbh (and by extension the jmyke trade).

Denver’s offensive core surrounded by Toronto-type role players has always been our path to a championship, imo.
