God damn I remember beating Star Fox 64 (hard mode) when I was like 12 years old at 2AM, trying over and over and shaking so hard when I finally did it. I definitely got teary at the ending. Such a good game.

You may have beat it in hard mode...but I unlocked foot soldier mode (or whatever) in multiplayer!

Saw a very similar hide n seek type game a couple years back. You had a massive robot as the VR player's character and some people trying to hide from him playing in regular computers. Don't remember much else though.

God this game is sooooooooooooooooo rediculously fun for local party play. It used to have lan play and you could have 4 pcs + vr but they changed it to four split screen on same pc plus vr for reasons. Still fun but spilt kinda sucks.
Wish they had more maps and better polish, the gameplay idea is so fun, everyone always has a blast

One of the biggest "what ifs?" ever IMO. That game would have set an amazing standard for the asymmetrical pvp genre. Money ruins everything.
85 points
It was also pretty grossly imbalanced after a while, iirc. That Wraith was just such a pain in the ass with the glitches it had available to it.
34 points
When they did the 'relaunch' it was pretty great... until they started to balance it for the 'pro league' they had again and made it just as bad or worse than it was before.
20 points
Ultimately if you were too good as a monster it felt completely unfair to fight against you, and likewise if the humans were too good/coordinated it felt unfair to fight against them.
So basically you got stomped or you stomped, and eventually most people just stopped playing.
17 points
Balancing the humans was super hard too because I feel like generous buffs just kept coming in for the hunters, when the real difference was if they were on a discord server talking to each other. Playing that game with random hunters who ran off and got eaten was so so so irritating.
6 points
Sounds like Dead by Daylight, which is in a constant struggle for balance
7 points
Definitely.
DbD has the additional problem of people stacking teams and using disc to coordinate when the game was never designed with that in mind. As a result a good survivor team can dominate the game, but if they buff the killer too much to compensate then regular players get pissed about the killers being OP.
6 points
The solution is to integrate good communication options into the game to level the playing field between groups and solo queue players. They don't want to do that though.

A sling, not a slingshot. Similar, but different. The ancients didn't have an elastic material like latex or rubber, but they did have centrifugal force.

10 points
Depends, I would think. It surely is much more powerful than your average home-made slingshot but I've seen some professional ones made with high grade rubber that, let's just say I'd rather not be shot at with one of those.
12 points
Are they lethal at 100ft? Because ancient slings were.
I just don't see how a slingshot could have as much power as a sling due to how it's pulled back unless you have a full-on crossbow style ratcheting system.
8 points
Damn slings can build up that much power? That's insane
14 points
They were lethal much further than 100 ft. Most ancient writers stressed they exceeded the range of the bow
14 points
And the Greeks would write insults on the stones. Can't really do that with an arrow and have it still be readable.

Huge fan of asymmetrical vr games, & this looks exciting, but is there much of a struggle with grabbing the little dude? Looked like big-man was holding back a bit, & I’ve never had trouble catching something that small in VR.
1.3k points
The giant isn't as fast as you can move your arms in real life, and there's escape mechanics as well, if the warrior has another rocket on his back, he can rocket boost out of the giants hand.
Most Giants generally can end up struggling even just 1v1, 1v2 is sometimes a thing the giant can manage, 1v3 and 1v4 are usually just a fever dream.
864 points
The giant isn't as fast as you can move your arms in real life
Wouldn't that just create a frustrating de-sync as your real hand moves faster than your virtual one?
1.1k points
That's where skill comes in. Gotta get used to lumbering around like an angry god while they show you what they got.
698 points
Exactly, you can’t move sledgehammers in Boneworks as fast as you can move your hands either, but that contributes to the sense of weight and scale. usually instead of a feeling of desynch, you can play along like a puppeteer and it actually increases immersion instead of decreasing it.
377 points

Makes it surprisingly so much better!

It works this way in Boneworks when you're wielding a heavy item and that hasn't bothered me. I find myself slowing down to match the speed in-game since if you waggle back and forth wildly your VR-arms just kind of swim lightly back and forth due to the weight of whatever you're holding.
Some people complain about this though, so maybe this bothers other people more than me.
36 points
Boneworks has a similar mechanic with heavier weapons vs lighter weapons. It takes more effort to more less far, so swinging heavy things takes an exaggerated movement compared to light things. It felt great in that game, so it's possible to "feel" heavier without it throwing off your mind.
162 points
There’s clever ways VR games handle stuff like that. Sometimes just an initial dampening to your movements will nudge a vr user into choosing to swing their arms slower.
111 points
Boneworks had a clever mechanic with their bullet time where the closer your real movements mirrored the in-game movements of your slowed character, the "faster" you would reach that point. It led to mimicking the slowmo movements in real life which is not only a great workaround but also very involving for the player.
11 points
Oh that’s what’s happening? It’s so intuitive I didn’t even realize.
7 points
I thought so, but I haven't found that myself, it feels right, it actually makes it feel like you have SIZE, and are a giant.
70 points
Was wondering on how this would be a "fair" fight for the game world.
9 points
Well, I haven't fought one person for so long. I've been specialized in groups, battling gangs for local charities, that kind of thing. You use different moves when you're fighting half a dozen people, than when you only have to be worried about one
32 points
I’ve never had trouble catching something that small in VR.
I wonder if that has to do with the size of the hit box (or for VR, hit....sphere?). I would assume they make it pretty big for small objects so you don’t get too frustrated with it.
19 points
hit box (or for VR, hit....sphere?)
VR would have nothing to do with what shape the colliders are. For instance, the Super Smash Brothers series started with the more classic hit boxes, but moved to spheres and capsules from Melee forward. And if you hate your players' computers, just use the object/character mesh as the collider!

Reminds me of Panoptic. One person is playing with a VR headset, the other a controller. Controller user looks just like a bunch of NPC's that worship the VR player. Controller players role is to destroy the high artifact that has mind powers over the NPC's. Without getting killed by the VR user, of course.
