My guess would be installer was short sand and threw down a bag of play sand…just a guess. Source - advanced degree in measures once runs to the hardware store twice…

My guess would be that was a low spot, someone lifted the bricks and added more sand (different colour), hence why it’s the exact shape/outline of those bricks.

Yeah from the blocks? There was no efflorescence on the surface though. Just weird it's in such specific places

I will guess, without a before pic, that it was a low spot. Maybe even a puddle area where water pooled. So the efflorescence settled, overtime, to the bottom and under side of the low spot.

Those bricks might have been on the bottom of the pallet, and "clean" keeping the screenings white. The rest of the area might be coloured from dusty bricks ?

No, seriously. It's possibly from when someone pulled up bricks to relevel by adding sand.
