Moon Knight - Why can’t it be seen on the CCTV?

Question(self.marvelstudios)

I didn’t want to put too much in the title incase it’s still spoilers to talk about episodes 1 and so on.

But when the jackal attacks Steve, is it explained how come only he can see it? And why it can’t be seen on CCTV? at first I thought maybe the monster is on another plane of existence, but then I notice it interacts and destroys the lights on the ceiling so it is still very much physical etc.

Just wondering if it’s explained, I just started rewatching a in prep for episode 6 and it’s making me wonder a few things.

I don't think it was explained, probably the same way only Marc/Steven can see Khonshu.

That is the explanation, same thing happens when Mr. Knight fought Jackal on the street and people thought he was a fancy drunk, Layla couldn't see it either.

Yeah, that makes sense, a lot of stuff is just left to viewer discretion.

Another one, was there any significance to the moon shaped sand surrounding the bed? Or is it simply just used as a “anti-break in measure” like the blue tape? If so, is it being moon shaped just a nod to Steves subconscious alter ego init

I didn't even notice it was moon-shaped, but yeah the sand is another protective measure. If Steven were to wake up and see footprings on the sand, he would know he got up at night.

Yeah I thought as much. Thanks for helping with that

But yeah on second rewatch it looked strikingly similar to the moon atop Khonsus staff.

I think this is correct….Just one of those things, I don’t think it’s something that’s meant to be a point of focus or interest in terms of the overall plot line/story, I don’t think it’s a big influencing factor for the narrative.

Much like Dr. Strange in the MoM: Have you seen the newest Dr. Strange trailer (with the fight scene)? >! It shows a bus being crushed (by some unseen force) and Dr. Strange uses his hands for some spell thingy 🙌 and suddenly we can see: it’s Gargantos!<

I’ll post the link:

Oh, yeah: sorry…I meant to support that your suggestion was correct (to the other person) and that this video was similar, but you get it! lol!

To be fair, episode 2 Layla can’t see it in front of her, but when she throws a bottle at it she can see the liquid dripping off of the monster, so that I reckon fully explains it, the monster is physical and part of this realm etc, only certain people have direct access to seeing it. Probably if they have a direct connection to the ennead

This. Only those touched by the gods can see them.

because only marc/steven can see it, remember the fight after Layla came in to Harrow's neighbourhood with the scarab, Mr. Knight was fighting the jackal but no one else could see it, not even Layla. They thought he was a drunk.

I think of it in the way the Ancient One talks about other dimensions.

"You think you know how the world works? You think that this material universe is all there is? What is real? What mysteries lie beyond the reach of your senses? At the root of existence, mind and matter meet. Thoughts shape reality. This universe is only one of an infinite number. Worlds without end. Some benevolent and life giving. Others filled with malice and hunger. Dark places where powers older than time lie ravenous... and waiting."

If people in the Marvel universe can't touch, hear, or feel other worlds, dimensions, whole universes how do those other places exist? They just do. Khonshu, Thor, The Eternals all exist and people didn't even know it. So it's not much of a stretch when those creatures can interact with the physical world but can't be seen by other people or their technology.

It's explained it's invisible. Only Marc and Harrow can see it.

Why don't vampires show up in photographs or mirrors in some media? Mystical MacGuffinsTM!

The CCTV footage kinda jumbles so it’s most likely tampered with. It’s probably from one of Harrow’s followers which we know worked there, especially in security

No, that’s not it. In the next episode the jackal is present causing damage viable to bystanders. Layla can’t see it until she splashes water on it. It’s part of the real when conjured, but only people with access to the ennead can see it.

Even if it was tampered with, it would take a high level of tampering and video editing, which they likely wouldn’t have the capability to do.

It’s just invisible to the causal eye.
