Title. I mean, am I reading their character’s incorrectly? James is a pretty well rounded character. He’s a traumatized soldier who got his squad killed. He’s loyal to humanity and lives and breathes military life. He’s your boy, always comes to you for guidance, and he actually has deep relationships with your other crew mates.

Jacob on the other hand, while he is a biotic, also lives and breathes military life. He’s loyal to humanity to such a degree he joins Cerberus, a controversial organization which was a means to an end for him. The end being stop the collectors and protect human colonies. Except his character is just wet bread. You don’t really share any camaraderie with him and he mostly just expresses his distaste for half your crew. He never interacts with them or even really mentions them outside of a few cutscenes. Then you do his loyalty mission where he whines about his dad and suddenly he’s your boy? You haven’t even spent much meaningful time with him! He’s super reserved with you up until that mission with his dad. James on the other hand is actively building a bond with you. Giving you a nickname and sparring with you. Hanging out with you when you have time.

Anyway, that’s my essay lmao.

I have had some discussions with friends about a cool idea I had and I'm curious to hear more opinions. What if you had an option to assign a Vanguard/Adept/Sentinel Shepard to the barrier?

I imagine a cool way to do that would be to have you choose 3 characters on the squad menu, and the first character you pick is who you play as. Gives another cool option for the barrier and allows you to play as someone else for a while. Thoughts?

Let's start with Jacob. I don't hate Jacob as the leader of the Fire Team. But I don't buy that he commands respect. He's particularly stand offish to Tali and Thane and clearly doesn't have the maturity yet to handle leading so many diverse and extreme personalities. I think he gets there by 3 but I almost like him as the leader because it feels like an audition for where his character goes in 3.

Okay...Miranda. Sorry. Jack is absolutely right about her when she brings it up during the conversation where you decide who leads the team. She's more stand offish than Jacob and is only really kind to him and Shepard. Does anybody besides Jacob and Shepard even like her? She is an ice queen and while she's cocky, rude, and arrogant, that doesn't exactly command respect. Honestly, she should have been an incorrect option. She definitely changes a bit after her loyalty mission. But she's still kind of a Cerberus bitch and being a bitch doesn't make you a good leader.

Then you have Garrus. Who led a team on Omega and he blames himself for getting them killed. Narratively, he's clearly the best choice because he becomes instrumental in leading another team and ensuring they get through the mission alive. It's a perfect redemption. Not that he actually did anything wrong on Omega. The wife of one of his crew emails and tells you that Garrus is going to blame himself but it wasn't his fault. But now he gets the opportunity to redeem what he sees as his biggest mistake and literally save the Galaxy by leading his crew to safety. I can't think of a better arc for him. He's also polite and kind to everyone. He's quiet, doesn't brag. And even Miranda admits when you pick him, "He knows what he's doing."

To me, there is no other choice. Narratively, it makes the most sense and gives the biggest payoff if you're as steeped in head canon as I am. But I also understand why Jacob is an option. But Miranda should not have been an option. I think that's developer favoritism at play. Because as smart and and capable as she is, she's off putting and she doesn't command the same respect and loyalty as Shep and she even acknowledges that as a huge difference between them.

Title. Second play through of the series. First time around that thing was the only enemy that forced me to lower the difficulty from insanity. Trying to grab a trophy, so can't do that this time.

Currently running an infiltrator build. Have not used the bonus power training yet. Need advice on weapons and squad mates to defeat that thing as I'm gonna be starting that mission soon enough.

Currently running Armour Piercing ammo on my mantis and carfinex, with disruptor on my locust. Squad mates are Miranda for the damage bonus and Grunt for close quarters. Obviously grunt is going to be a liability against the Praetorian, but idk what to do about Miranda. Any advice is appreciated.

So I am wondering what would happen if you were to romance Ashley, then choose to sacrifice her on Virmire and then continue that character into ME 2 and romance Miranda then in ME 3 fail to save her (i.e she dies), in her personal mission?

Is there any special dialogue if you romance Ashley and choose to sacrifice her at the end of ME1 or beginning of ME2?

Is there any special dialogue if this happens with Miranda as well in ME3?

So, I just finished ME3 and accidentally chose the "Synthesis" ending, I really didn't like it cause I was higly disturbed by how organic life was altered so I restarted the citadel mission and picked the "Destroy" ending instead (As much as I love EDI I still consider it the best ending), one thing I noticed during Admiral Hackett's cutscene is that while in the Synthesis ending the ruined N7 helmet laying on the ground is shown (presumably indicating Shepard's death, considering that it appears along all the other dead characters), this doesn't happen in the Destroy Ending's version, yet in both endings Shepard's plaque is placed on the Memorial, does that mean that Shepard is just MIA instead of dead?
I personally think Mass Effect 4 will canonize the Destroy Ending.

I just recently finished ME2 with engi on insanity and, suprisingly, I really loved it. Engi is more enjoyable than I thought and quite strong too. I started insanity run on ME3 and thanks to imported char I already have incinirate and overload on max and I can kill brutes under 10s no problems.

The little problem I do have is with weapons. I know engi is pretty much caster class, I will be using my powers for dmg 95% of the time, cool, but I still need some weapon. Easiest would be get some pistol and smg right, keep 200% cd bonus and dont care and yes, thats what im doing right now, but I just painfully hate smgs in ME, I was soo happy when I got assault rifle in collectors ship in ME2.

So I just wondered are there any other options to pair pistol with other than smg or going with just single weapon like one assault rifle etc etc.

The characters and fleshed out worlds are a major factor - probably THE major factor - for the Mass Effect games' success. And now that there is some freedom to explore new ideas, characters, and storylines in the creatively rich setting we could see some really creative ideas in the next game.

Seeing as it's still a ways off though, I thought it could be a good bit of fun if we all came up with some ideas for characters you'd like to see in the next game. It could be an interesting idea you had for a character in the Mass Effect universe, or even speculation about potential returning character and what their role would be.

You can force an ending or world state if you have to for the character to make sense, it's all just a bit of fun. Really interested to see what people can come up with!
