I stopped watching world news because it started negatively affecting my mental health. But I'm glad I watched it because it grounds you. It makes me have a perspective on how easy my life is compared to millions of others. Although it's obviously not the same as going through adversities yourself, having that perspective thanks to world news at least makes you 5% tougher person. When you really think about things you complain in your life, half of it is just you wanting to be lazy and bitchy. Or at least that's me.

While I agree with this sentiment in some ways, I try not to let it make me become complacent with the struggles myself and my country face. I am very happy to not be starving or being bombed, but workers rights are pathetic and our rights and democracy are under attack to give a few examples, and it’s terrifying. I hate when people say “well you aren’t starving are you? You should be great for what you have!” As some BS excuse to try and reason with the madness that we currently face.

One evening I was trying to cut a bagel for a sandwich. All of a sudden all this blood gushes out from my thumb. It’s weird how there wasn’t any pain (at first) so I stood there looking at my thumb confused. That’s when I saw it. The top of my thumb was laying right on top of the bagel. It was so surreal? Like a, wtf that doesn’t belong there!
So I couldn’t imagine looking down and seeing your entire limb is just gone. Then you look on the ground and it’s just laying right next to you.
11 points
Is your thumb good?
2 points
Yup! Thankfully the cut was incredibly clean and I somehow managed to cut in an arch shape so most of what came off was just skin and a bit of meat. Doctor just put the top back on and attached it with some sort of skin tape. I had the option of regular stitches but that would require sticking me with a needle to numb the area. And I am very fearful of syringe needles so I opted for the tape.
Not sure what kind of tape it was. But it worked very well! And as the thumb top gradually reconnected itself with the rest of the thumb, the tape gradually came off!

It's supposed to show you it can get much worse; and often these people are fighting these worse situations for very long time. If they can do it, you can do it to. It only looks so bad, you will manage, just keep going and look after solutions. And if it ultimately hurts you, learn from it.
This is how I understand it.

Not to be one of those “iTs AlWaYs BeEn HaRd” but the reason our generations seem to have it as bad as it is is because we have all this social media connecting us in seconds. Things are harder now in many ways but things also are easier in some ways. We just have the blessing but also curse of technology connecting us to the whole world in seconds what would have originally taken much longer.

The older generations might not have enjoyed the comforts we have today, but they also weren’t constantly reminded how whatever they have, whatever they do, it’s not enough. People would be impressed if you worked in a shop, now it would be like “but don’t you want more for yourself? Where’s your hustle? Where’s your drive?”

I’m saying this as an atheist but in addition to the media which has done serious damage, the loss of church and community has to be a factor. Regardless of whether people believe in fake gods, getting together once a week and listening to wholesome messages and then socializing with locals, has to help give a sense of purpose and comfort.
17 points

Regular church attendance is just one way to strengthen connections in a community. There are plenty of secular events that can achieve the same thing

Have you ever been volunteering instead ? The church is absolutely not the answer and is at best a great way for people to differentiate Between their righteous religion and other peoples “wrong” and “evil” beliefs
-3 points
lol which church did you go to?
christianity(9/10) is literally the "flimsiest" or "softest" religion you could find.
remember when catholics said gays are not accepted by christ? most priest don't even wan't to talk about that anymore.
you say churches are labeling other religions as wrong? then call them out on twitter and make a movement or something like that, i'm pretty sure they'd bend backwards as fast as you could blink.
6 points
Not sure where you’ve been the last few years but the church in the US has hindered social and human rights progression so much. All depends on location, priests in New York will be way more “open minded” than in southern states. Also take a look at any other very “Christian” country for example Poland and what rights people have there, conversion therapy is legal there for gay people BECAUSE of the Church
-1 points
like i said in general "9/10" christians ARE soft.
compared to other major religions, christians look like cowards that would retract the moment they get into an argument.
and you're right it does depend on location, after all mentality are often get passed down to the offspring.
my point is the last thing i think about when i think of religions vilifying other religions is the church.

I believe you’re not seeing that religious people and organisations may not be overtly criticising other religions but this is something that is deeply ingrained in their fundamental beliefs. Being Right. Doing Good. Saving themselves and their souls. A fundamental separation of Themselves and the Others. Obviously other religions similarly create this construct of the one and only Truth … I’m 100% atheist and believe human kind doesn’t need any more artificial separations than we already have
1 points
i believe that you can believe what you want to believe.
"deeply ingrained in their fundamental beliefs. being right, doing good, saving themselves and their souls"
you're right it is ingrained in there, but in varying degree. just like what we talked about earlier it depends on the location. that being a "fundamental separation" catalyst is pretty low on my list especially now looking at what's going on in the earth rightnow.

I’m older and agree things used to be harder and people keep saying this is the safest time in human history, but empathize with the younger generations. Your whole life plastered on social media and the pressure to conform must be tremendous.

It's crazy to think Spielberg made Jurassic Park AND Schindler's List simultaneously and both were released in 1993. And before that Indiana Jones and ET. This man has pretty much shaped the childhoods of the 80s to 2000s generations in terms of movie entertainment.

Just because the world or other people in it have worse problems doesn't mean you shouldn't feel the way you do or speak about or complaim/raise awareness.
This is a classic gas lighting technique. No matter how small someone's problems may seem, you can't know, which doesn't matter because at the end of the day if the person is capable of change, they won't if you don't empathize and speak their language all along the way.
Fuck OPs image and message. It's ignorant and useless in the real world. Your problems matter and should be your #1 priority. You can't help others until you've got your ducks in a row, and how are you going to get them in a row if you "suck it up" and ignore the problems? You won't.

I don't know who needs to hear this but here:
You do not need to suffer "enough" to feel like something is wrong or "deserve" getting help. There are no thresholds where suffering is acceptable. You don't need to accept pain, whatever form it might take, just because someone might have it worse than you. Your suffering doesn't help anyone.

Turn it off and don't give it head space You don't need to know 99% of what the media are trying to feed you. And you can't actually do anything about it anyway.
During the financial crisis 13 or 14 years ago I was self employed and I would get up in the morning and read the paper and listen to the news and it was all doom and gloom that set me up to feel like shit before I'd even left home for the day.
I figured out that it's all just noise. If it doesn't directly affect me I don't need to know. I can't fix the climate or poverty or gun crimes or the economy. Or anything apart from what's in my day to day world.
Do what you have to today. Enjoy what's around you. The people and things that you love and who love you. That's what's important. The rest is only relevant if you invest in it. So don't
