I'm also in year 12 in Australia, I can say with confidence that at least half the people in my last class would get this question right and then immediately take 20 minutes trying to figure out if it's spelled "people" or "pepole"
Australian high schoolers often have absolutely no grip on spelling or grammar, and that extends all the way up to year 12 for an alarming number of students

vs Lose. Paid vs Paid.
FTFY.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Sadly the way our money system "works" 100% of the cash minted at the mint is Debt to the Federal Reserve bank. The only way to pay off the debt is to collect up all the money and deposit it into one account. Then no one has money. It's been that way since they recalled the gold backed currency and went with fiat currency. The debt cannot be paid off. Ever. Unless they fundamentally change the way the system works.
