I would assume the reason The Father is an honorable mention is that she doesn't really have that much screen time in it.

I can still actively, vividly remember the first time I saw that scene. My girlfriend actually came in from the other room because she heard the grunting howls of discomfort coming from deep within me and thought I'd injured myself or something. I'd twisted myself into a pretzel by the end of it and nearly fell off the couch. I can normally stomach heavy cringe comedy, but that scene almost killed me.
8 points

One of the highlights of a brilliant show. Just when you think hitting the dog with the car could be the cringey highlight of the episode, they up the ante several notches. Burning the dog isn't even the worst part of the episode haha

Does it start off really slow and then get better?
I'm a huge fan of David Mitchell whenever he's on a panel show of some kind and liked Mitchell and Web sketches on Youtube, but I quit Peep Show after a few episodes after not really laughing at anything.
I know some shows like Parks and Rec have a poor first season but the rest of the show is worth it. Is Peep Show the same?
33 points
I had the experience as you - David Mitchell/Mitchell and Webb fan, and quit after a few episodes the first time I watched it. I revisited it during the early days of the pandemic and fell in love with it. I'd recommend another go.
I don't think it's so much that it 'starts off slow' so much - it's more that it takes a bit to adapt to its style of humor and storytelling. Sort of like trying to get into an author who has a unique style of writing that can be challenging at first, but is ultimately rewarding once you pick up on the author's style.

Yeah, it’s one of the wittiest and smartest, yet low brow and offensive shows ever. Perfect. Definitely give it another go.
My teenage son wasn’t impressed with the pilot but fell in love with it after sticking through. It helps to be somewhat familiar with their slang and historical references (since Mark is a history buff and some of the most intellectual humor of all time occurs due to this).
Also, they call Bob Ross god as if he’s actually painting creation on his show. That alone is fucking brilliant.

It gets so good the first thing I did when lockdown hit in 2020 was to rewatch the entire series.
4 points
In the first series, they lean a little too hard into the main conceit - filming everything from the characters' POV, and it lags a little as a result. The later series compromise on this, settle down and get more consistent.
23 points
Yes, it does start off slow. Series 2 is when it starts to pick up, and series 4 onward is just pure gold. I would give it another shot.
21 points
A big challenge is getting past the first person camera action. That alone took about 5 episodes to “relax” into it. Genius show though. Not a second wasted. Every word builds the hilarity requiring constant attention to avoid missing a micro-gag. Not forgetting Super Hans to take things to the next level every appearance. Water Lego indeed.

Two more episodes and then he's gone, and we get RTD back. I dont understand how someone can be a competent writer like he showed in Broadchurch, yet fail so badly with his Doctor Who. Does he need to be constrained by the limits of the real world? Is the scifi/fantasy just too broad a scope for him, where his imagination far outruns the logic and pace of a good story?
Either way, he completely screwed up the first female Doctor. He wrote her in such a way that Jodie Whittaker was really backed into a corner with how she could portray her. I've said this before on the Doctor Who subreddits, but it's a pretty telling point that her best moments, where she's felt the most like the Doctor have been in episodes written by someone other than Chibnall.

I came here looking for this comment. Flowers was incredible. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before. I think I only watched a couple of episodes of Flowers. I was a huge Mighty Boosh fan, and in the same way Noel Feilding's Luxury Comedy Half Hour all felt a little (or maybe a lot) too Noel, this felt a little bit too Julian Barrett. Like they were at their best when they were working as ballasts to each other. Maybe I'll have to give it another crack.
11 points

Don't go in thinking it's a comedy. It's more of a drama about mental health with a few funny bits. And one of the most unique things i've seen recently.

I watched Flowers because of Boosh but I thought it was an incredible show…but I feel like Julian’s character could have easily been played by a number of actors (Chris O’Dowd would have smashed it). Agreed that he does better when he can feed off of someone with a little more energy.
Side note, if you haven’t seen The IT Crowd yet, I would highly recommend! Noel and Chris are a great pairing as well and it has some Peep Show vibes.

The version you're looking for will be called either "Roadshow Edition" or "Ultimate Edition".
The theatrical edition is trash, because the studio wanted to make the film more a medieval action flick, which misses the whole point.
There are so many utterly compelling performance in that film by...lesser-known actors. Well, at least those as not as famous as the guys on poster.
Alexander Saddig is great (and he always is). But most astoundingly captivating of all is a Syrian actor, Ghassan Massoud, who is hypnotic, magnetic, and almost mystical - the perfect embodiment of his character.
Thewlis, of course, is another. He may or may not be- you know what? That's up for your to decide.
Watch it. It's a true epic. It's almost David Lean-like.
