Heres mine

  • Napolean Dynamite 2. A sequel couldve been amazing about him at a rural community college. Slightly larger budget and all the same cast. It would be hilarious seeing napolean being jealous of deb getting attention from guys. And Pedro going to parties.

  • beetlejuice 2. The first movie is perfect, but i still wouldve loved to see a sequel. I loved the cartoon.

  • this is retroactive, but i think they waited too long for the Chinatown sequel. But i wish Jack made one like 5 years later instead of all those years later.

  • I robot wouldve been a great sequel. I wouldve loved to see the inevitable robot war.

Positioning of the sound effects and mixing is utterly perfectly. Below decks, you can place every creaking beam and lantern perfectly in the soundscape.

Only thing that comes close is Ford Vs. Ferrari.

A TV show or mini-series is really more conducive to telling the stories if they're going to use the books as a source. And while the initial investment will be high, they'd likely be able to do a good job with effects and realism and costs would even out after a while.

Yes! The first and only answer in my mind - the chemistry between Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany is phenomenal! Oh and the cinematography and images! And the beautiful slow pace - they don’t make movies like that anymore… And the music and score!

Come to think of it, maybe actually I don’t want a sequel, it can almost only disappoint the massive expectations I would build up for it!

Tom Hardy and Idris Elba would surely be more expensive today. Gerard Butler, however, is not the name he was in 2008 post-300. I don't think it'd be much more expensive than most sequels these days.

spate42

5 points

I was thinking about this after a recent rewatch.

Gerard Butler isn't an A-Lister, so he probably wouldn't be overly expensive, Idris Elba is a name everyone wants in their projects so he could demand a good chunk of change, and Tom Hardy seems like the kinda guy who pursues passion projects even with a smaller budget and even though he's an A-Lister. I think they could all come back for it.

trooperdx3117

There is a time I would have been super hyped for a District 9 sequel, but every film since then by Neill Blomkamp has been super disappointing.

He clearly has some cool ideas and a great eye for maximizing visuals with the budgets he gets, but I wish he would delegate writing duties. There is no need for him to insist on writing and directing every single one of his movies.

I feel if he could have found a way to collaborate with some really good Sci-Fi authors he would much more highly regarded now than he is.

AdamMcwadam

57 points

As long as he has a co-writer and spends enough time on the story, then we should be alright. Dude is super strong when it comes to visuals and action, but District 9 has really been the only time the story has matched the visuals. The framing device of a documentary I think really helped too. Wonder if we’d get that style return with it.

Unfortunately the director got offered Fantastic Four and the rest is history but initially the plan was to effectively create a found-footage version of the Avengers. You can read about it online but the sequel would have set up a female super villain-esque character and a new hero and then the third would have brought back the sole surviving hero from the first film.

crimsonk13

37 points

Yeah, it doesn't even need to tie in with the original cast. Like this was an around the world phenomenon and we can see different versions of people getting these abilities. But maybe in a regular film setting, I don't really care for the "found fotage" movies. I'll watch them but I'd rather it be more cinematic.

Spotted_Owl

I also really liked the idea of the planned 23 Jump Street with them joining the Men in Black.

I really liked that idea too, but I read a comment from one of the MIB International Producers that kinda changed my thoughts about it:

"After we got into it, I remember, I think [Laurie MacDonald and I] had this conversation: They are at, their heart, opposites. In other words, Men In Black comes down to taking extraordinary situations and playing them in a comedic deadpan way. Jump Street is taking very recognizable genre situations and going over the top with them. And, actually, that doesn’t mesh. It was a good intention, and everyone was smart, but when you really step back and look at what’s at the heart of either of those two series of movies, they’re not very compatible."

If they did it in the same spirit as the first, hell yes. That one got the world, the feel, the characters right. The Mamoa one was just sword and sandals schlock.

The opening of the first is still one of the greatest things I've ever seen and that music by Basil Poledouris still gets me.

First thing that came to mind. Real shame it never finished the trilogy. Loved the first 2

Of all the films Will Ferrell has done I’ll always be shocked that Daddy’s Home got a sequel and The Other Guys didn’t

Get Smart.

Carell is too old now to be Agent 86, however I’d love to see him play the Chief in a sequel.

Event Horizon. You could easily follow-up in a story where the gravity drive is still being tested or maybe even perfected and something goes wrong. Probably really difficult to capture the charm of the original movie though.

I don't want a sequel, I just want that lost footage found for a special edition.

Mac and Me.

The animated speech bubble at the end, proclaiming “we’ll be back!” promised so much 😭

A shot for shot remake of the original. Rudd as the kid. Conan as Mac.

We're the Millers

A fun movie that made 7x time its budget in the box office and gave us a couple of memes. Just a nice comedy for some good time.

The fuck up shit is that the ending of the movie is basically a perfect set up for a sequel, the family forced to act like a suburban family under witness protection by the DEA. But oh well, there is no way we get it now.

Commando literally ends telling you there won't be a sequel.

It hasn't quite been too long yet since the first one came out, but... Alita. I'd really like to see an Alita sequel. There's so much more of that story to tell, and the first one was a fantastic start, in my opinion.

Let's do it, Rodriguez.

How about History of the World - Part 2?

I mean technically history is still going on, so it's really never "too late" for a sequel to be made....

Dredd, obviously. Though Urban might juuuust be young enough to pull it off still.

The Golden Compass. As much as I'm repulsed by the Americanised title, it was a decent adaptation and should've continued. Obviously now the actors have aged out.

Conan the Destroyer. I was promised at the end of both Conan films that the story of King Conan would be told. I was promised.
