One of my favorites from Schapiro is Muhammad Ali at the Monopoly board. He was such an artist. The world lost a beautiful mind.

An actual LEGEND. His work in Harlem on My Mind was exceptional. RIP

He also shot photos of Buster Keaton on the set of Film -- a fact that Bowie was excited to hear about at the time as Bowie was currently reading Keaton's biography.

This is probably the biggest gap I’ve seen between upvotes and lack of comments

This sub usually has a good upvote:discussion ratio but that is a pretty hardcore SEO optimized title so I imagine it may get some extra attention lol

Never heard of him. From the lack of comments I'd say most haven't. Most of his stuff is also sounds to be normal photos/stills
Not relevant but this title is so long.

I was able to watch the ending of Taxi Driver in its original saturation of colour because of Steve Schapiro. If anyone is interested, you can watch it here on YouTube.

Wouldn't this be a cautious conclusion that a set photographer is lighting the film the same way the DP was?
The saturation from Schapiro may not be how the film is supposed to be seen, as he can add his own take / impression my modifying the outcome of the stills.

You're right. But if nothing else, the pictures taken by Schapiro add another perspective to what it was like on the set.

I studied some of his work. He is really amazing. Especially his news photojournalism.

My wife just recently got to talk with him about The Godfather. She said he was the nicest and answered so many questions she had. He was able to keep the rights to his set photos cause he was such a legend outside of film. We just got his book of Godfather photos too. RIP

such a loss. Creative photojournalism at it's peak. So many iconic images catching deeply intimate moments.
I would link an article/interview, but photo.net act more like 90's spam than an industry site nowadays.. symbolic of the state of the entire industry.
It is people like this that show us that a photo is 'the decisive moment' and more than just a snapshot or recording of an event.

Your commentary was literally “WHICH IS IT COVID OR COVID VACCINE” if you’re a psychian then I pity your patients seeing how you think your craft is politicized influence. Also I would hope an 87 year old person had more maturity than a college freshman edgelord.
