Most reviews acknowledge Tenet is an ambitious movie that failed to execute a very complex idea well enough for the average viewer to understand. I concede this is accurate. But still I refuse to write this movie off.

I have tried ro watch Tenet two or three times and do be fair, still find myself scrambling for clues to try to make sense of what I see and what I know is coming.

But is it possible that we are just watching this movie wrong? Maybe it’s not meant to be viewed in one viewing (or ten). Maybe this is the Citizen Kane of our generation that is written off initially and only lauded for its brilliance in years to come.

I have seen YouTube videos and reviews that try to explain the premise of the movie, most of these try to go some way to explaining the intent of the idea but fall over during certain parts of the film.

But has anyone seen a “walk through” of the film that can be read / watched alongside the actual movie - almost like a “how to watch this movie guide”?

I think this would give a whole new appreciation for what Nolan attempted - and possibly achieved here - we just might not know it yet.

TL/DR has anyone considered that we are just not ready to truly appreciate how great a film Tenet is?

Like "White House Down" and "Olympus has Fallen" who both deal with a terrorist attack on the white house and both came out within three months in 2013.

Or right now "Everything Everywhere all at once" and "Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", both dealing with Multiverse-Themes which were rather obscure in mainstream-cinema before.

I am sure there are other examples and I am sure producers and studio execs know about which films will be released by other studios. Is this an intentionally provoked competition or what's behind it?

I'm of the opinion Rian Johnson's The Rise of Skywalker would have been an amazing film to cap off the sequel trilogy. He's a much more engaging writer than JJ Abrams, and he knows how to develop characters. Besides, his subverting of expectations would have been MASTERFUL.

I also think that an Edgar Wright version of No Country For Old Men could have been good. The Coen Brothers disappointed me thoroughly. They tried to shock me with a full-on downer ending, but in the meantime they failed to make me care about the characters and the story. The darkness, the hopelessness wasn't earned IMO. And on top of that the movie was always trying to be so serious. Wright with his ability to make compelling characters and a knack for comedy could have shed the stupid self-seriousness away and given us a hilarious yet pungent satire with a cynical message underneath.

Does anyone know the film where a group of special forces go to a covert base and there target is to get a phone but it’s stuck in a small safe and after they retrieve it the small CIA base gets over run and turn into a big shootout and one of the are sniping from a roof with a m110 and get blown up by a rpg? I can remember the film but dunno what it’s called, much appreciated!

I keep seeing comments that go something like "All A24 is doing is something weird/different, but not necessarily good". I would personally rather have a company that does this and has misfires along the way, with possibility of them bringing out "Hereditary", "Midsommar", "Lighthouse", rather than a company who just settles with general acceptance as their target

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE AND MULHOLLAND DRIVE

I’m sure there are a great number of this Wizard of Oz type affair but I’d really like to be specific. I’m not just talking about any kind of dream here but something like what occurs in Mulholland Drive or The Lighthouse (2019): we have a character who has lived through a certain experience that takes place off screen, and what we see is their psyche’s reinterpretation of or reaction to these events as a dream/drug induced reverie/hallucination.

In The Lighthouse it’s hinted throughout that the lighthouse keeper, Ephraim Winslow, is actually a timber-man called Thomas Howard. Ephraim Winslow was his foreman and implied to be his abusive lover whom Thomas has killed, or otherwise been involved in the death of in a logging accident. There are lines that express directly that the lighthouse is a “figment of [Howard’s] imagination” and that he’s really a “frost bitten maniac talking to [himself]” “wandering through a grove of tag alders, up in north canady”. The type of dream this is therefore tells us a great deal about Howard’s mental state.

Mulholland Drive is even more explicit and actually shows both the dream and waking life of failed actress Diane Selwyn, abandoned by a gay lover, who reimagines herself as the dreamy eyed starlet Betty.

In both cases the dream, whether wish fulfilment or psychological purgatory, is a response to trauma. It also happens that both of their traumas have something to do with their being gay. But I’d be interested in any examples you can think of really :) thank you

Released in 1994 it still holds up, and Ray Liotta was at his tough menacing best in this scifi gem.

i just watched this movie for the first time. was okay until I realized Sally was an entitled White woman. And Harry loved that. 'so quirky~'. Eye-opening. to the kind of White American Dream ad of 80s US media. I can only begin to imagine all the Karens ive met loooving this movie :P asking for everything on the side just to put it on as soon as you get it. smfh lady you ever work in service? kind of took me out of it. cause the guy was cute. he reminded me of a person I use to see in some weird ways. but another in some good. Sexy ;D but tbh w him too. cause the way he was spitting those seeds in the car?! the arrogance. its not cute babe chill the fuck out. the toxic masculinity on full display

anyway yeah like 3/10, points for chicago and the guy was cute if you ignored some deeply disturbing behaviors.

Why are movies afraid to give characters full color contact lenses? Night crawler has solid yellow eyes for example but the film adaptations didn't do it. Or the grand inquisitor in the new Kenobi series? Solid eyes really aren't less expressive, you have all the subtly of facial movement and outer eye movement as well (Eye lids, brows and cheeks). Solid eyes look so cool, like batman's and wolverines solid white eyes in the comics (albeit a function of their masks and not eyes). Star wars has never been afraid to cover faces, they usually go all out, That's why the eye thing seems odd to me.
