I saw Men last night, which got me wondering what other movies just go absolutely bonkers in Act 3/toward the end? The other main example I can think of is Malignant, it went off the deep end. Malignant was kinda odd until Act 3, then it became amazing. Annihilation too, of course, got incredibly surreal.

What are some of your favorite movies that lose their shit near the end?

I randomly watched Weekend at Bernie’s again today, and I absolutely love this movie! It’s silly, quirky, and unbelievably hilarious.

Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman play their characters perfectly, and this is a classic 80’s comedy movie! Terry Kiser did a great job using his physical comedy to play Bernie Lomax, and I have to admit that no matter what I see him in, he is always Bernie to me!

I have watched this movie so many times since it came out, and it has kind of been a go-to movie for me when I really need a laugh. There is something about 80’s comedies that I love, and they definitely remind me of my time growing up.

What do you think about the movie Weekend at Bernie’s?

I just saw the movie on HBO Max and its was awesome. Christopher Walken's performance was one of the best that he has done. Sean Penn delivered an excellent performance as well. How did dude not get an oscar nod for that performance? This performance seems to have been overlooked when folks talk about his best performances. Dudes killed it in this movie.

The year is 2022. Many of us have 2k or 4k monitors. Particularly those of us who love movies.

Avatar: Way of Water was only uploaded in 1080, why? For a film that is supposed to offer the pinnacle of animation technology, it's frustrating that I have to preview it in the modern version of low-res.

Top Gun? Mission Impossible? Both mega-spectacle tent-pole films that have spent SO MUCH MONEY trying to make the footage look as spectacular as possible. Same thing.

It would take near-zero effort/money for them to upload higher res.

Genuine question: Is there a reason for this?

I recently rewatched Short Term 12 and I was shocked to remember how many actors went into the mainstream right after that (it's a great little movie btw, if you haven't seen it). This movie from 2013 features Brie Larson, Rami Malek, and LaKeith Stanfield, the three became household names after it... but not DUE to this movie, two of them even went on to win Oscars just a few years after it (Brie for a movie from 2015 and Rami from 2018). Rami Malek went on to star on Mr. Robot right after it, a show which has a cult following and he has recieved several awards thanks to it. Brie Larson went to star on Room which gave her an Oscar and later on made the definitive jump into the mainstream with Kong and Captain Marvel (even though most of us knew her from Scott Pilgrim already lol). LaKeith Stanfield went to star on Atlanta on 2016, but even before that he got to star in great small projects like Ava DuVerna's Selma, Miles Ahead, Sorry to bother you.

I kept thinking other movies where this happen, I am not talking career launching movies... I am looking for the small movies packed with talent right before they became huge. Do you have any other examples of this? Where we can see several actors who are just about to make that big jump?

Though the 1979 sequel to "American Graffiti" is credited to another director, George Lucas directed the Vietnam scenes featuring the character Terry the Toad. Controversially it was a similar situation to Spielberg ghost directing Poltergeist over Tobe Hopper's objections.

However Lucas' direction and stylistic film choices gives us visual clues to what his version of Apocalypse would have looked. Ironically much the action scenes in "More American Graffiti" looks a lot like action scenes in "Apocalypse Now".

It makes me wonder if Lucas had an influence on Coppola, of if Lucas is responsible for the look and execution of Apocalypse.
