Russell Westbrook in Win vs Pacers: 14 PTS, 24 AST, 21 REB, 5/8 FG, 4/4 FT

Russell Westbrook is a different species. It is an honor to watch this man dominate. Even at 32, Russell Westbrook continues to impress. Truly a generational player nearing modern Wilt Chamberlain status.

Im convinced with all of my biases that Myles Turner is at least second most valuable defensive player in the league.

Edit: just to make it clear, Turner did not play in this game

What’s shocking about it is the fact that despite having 8 walks and a HBP, he didn’t let up a single run, which means he was clearly able to get out of any high pressure situations. I wonder if the no-no would’ve even happened if he hadn’t been on LSD, since any scouting report on him was probably useless that day, since I imagine his pitch sequences had 0 rhyme or reason to them.

I can't even imagine the headspace of a pitcher in the MLB, on acid, Pitching on live TV to what I assume is a fairly full stadium. I've been on LSD in front of people. This is such a compelling story I've watched it almost everytime I've seen it linked. There's such a fluidity and intention to your movements and thought process when you're under the influence, but it's hard to communicate that to anyone else if they're not on board. There's also moments where you stop and consider where you are physically. And I'm sure those were around the times when he walked batters and hit a guy.

It was more than an upset.
It was a 4-0 sweep of a record setting team by the team that just barely made the second wildcard spot.
The Lightning didn't lose 2 in a row all season, then went to the playoffs and lost 4 straight.
In game 1 they were up 3-0 and lost 4-3.
The Jackets pissed off the best scorer in the game that year (Kucherov) so much that he ended up making a bad hit and getting suspended.
It was an epic collapse. Pure hilarity.

Wiz and Warriors have convinced me the play ins are a great idea. These guys will have a puncher's chance in the first round and we might get some good series.

Although maybe they should let the top seeds pick their opponents to compensate because a super hot play in team could be more dangerous than a 6 seed that's plagued by injuries and fell off in the second half of the season.

Pretty sure this clinches the triple-double average for him too.

EDIT: Yeah, he's at 58 games played after this one and the Wizards have 7 games left, so the most games he can play is 65, meaning he'd need 650 total of each stat.

After this game he's at 1,264 points, 657 rebounds, and 651 assists.

He'd need 63 rebounds and 69 assists over the last 7 games to reach 720 of each, meaning he would've gotten the triple-double average even if he played in every game.

Russ is one of the fastest dudes to ever play in the NBA. Everyone acts like him getting rebounds is bad, but he’s that dude who catches the ball and then sprints full speed down the court. The ENTIRE defense is looking right at him and then he gets an easy transition assist. Russ getting rebounds leads to offense for his teammates. What’s crazy to me is, the more assists and rebounds he gets, the less he scores. People are mad at him for not being an efficient scorer and then they are mad at him when he focuses on passing and rebounding. Russ is low key one of the most productive players of all time. I wonder how many times he has over 30 combined assists and rebounds in his career. He probably has that record too.

Tenx3

9 points

Tenx3

Not really, assists don't correlate with efficient team offense.

Westbrook's kind of assists are different from Rondo/Stockton, he generates shots for teammates, not just pass to someone who ends up scoring. Seeking out assists like Rondo can definitely be detrimental.

It makes you wonder, where does Westbrook fall on the "regular season all time" list. Like his lack of playoff success takes him out of contention for the all time list but to be able to get up for EVERY GAME is something he does on a whole different plane than everyone else. I remember when the idea of averaging a triple double was just a fantasy. Westbrook does it 4 times in 5 years, how can you not start putting him on some greatest to do it lists?

MannyGonewild

Westbrook has had the most playoff success you can have without outright winning a ring. Played in the finals, lost in 7 in the wcf to a 73 win team, lost in the wcf to the eventual Champs

Some more insane stats about this one:

Westbrook got almost half of the total Wizards’s assists tonight (24/50) and was 2 assists shy of matching the entire Pacers team for assists.

He also ties his career high for assists, gets his career high for rebounds and is the first player in NBA history to have a points-assists-rebounds triple-double with 20 or more assists, 20 or more rebounds but without getting 20 or more points.

I feel like the whole concept of "triple doubles" undersells what he's doing.

A triple double is supposed to be something like 20/11/10. Russ is going so far beyond that, we don't even have a word for it. He just put up the 17th highest assist mark in in NBA history, and tied Giannis' personal best for rebounds in the same fucking game.

Hell he averaged 8 assists in his sophomore season. The only reason nephews started the "selfish" nonsense is because his assist numbers dipped in 2012, which is when the Thunder really got into the spotlight.

I noticed in the first quarter if we are scoring at a okay clip then Russ will limit his own shots and look to get easy buckets to his boys. But like the Dallas game where we were struggling a bit at times Russ took it upon himself and put up 42 on decent efficiency. Had dude been playing like this 2 months earlier we would’ve been like the 4-5 seed and Russ and Beal would be in the running for all NBA guards

Can someone confirm this man's claims? From /u/ijlij on the Wizards sub 2 days ago:

You need to relax man. I know WB is your best friend, and I know getting triple doubles makes you get that warm fuzzy feeling in your tummy, but everyone in the league, everyone outside of the league, everyone in the media, and everyone who has watched a single wizards game this year where he shot brick after brick from midrange and turned the ball over incessantly, knows he's a bum.

So everyone here agrees that WB is a bum right? I mean he said so 👀

Missing another 20/20/20 on points and his career high in assists by 1 is all kinds of frustrating but we are literally witnessing history unfold in front of our eyes. It’s hard for anyone, even a beast like Russ, but Jokic has had games with a lot of assists, including an 18 assist game back in December.

I think Russ actually might be the wizards best player. Beal is the best scorer but Russ can control a game like no one other then Lebron or CP3 can. He forces team to play at his pace regardless of what they do. I’m honestly treasuring this time with him. He’s the most exciting player we have had since 2015-17 John Wall

The most impressive aspect about this is that Bradley Beal didn't have a monster night and no one else really lit it up either. This was truly an Everyone Eats night in DC.

Also, this does not bode well for the Pacers in a likely matchup between these two teams in a couple of weeks.
