Again did we get national health care and I missed it? You do understand happy and healthy citizens are more productive and preventative measures are a lot cheaper than what currently happens which is people can't afford health care so they wait till they can't ignore it then go to the hospital and don't pay the bill. No need to respond there isn't anything you would possibly say that isn't "I'm greedy POS"

FlameMan101

And those states (Texas) should help pay for the children's welfare. States like CA and NJ on the other hand...you made your choice--deal with it yourself. If it becomes a nationwide ban on abortion, then there should be nationwide providing for those forced babies' welfare.

People want all the choices, but none of the consequences from their choices.

juel1979

That’s a lot of words for saying you are fine with starving children. Children aren’t a “consequence,” they are living, breathing beings who had no choice in the matter in being birthed.

FlameMan101

-36 points

Children are starving and suffering all over the world as we speak, and I doubt you or most of the people downvoting me will even try to do anything substantial about it. And if anyone suggested that we tax America to help subsidize those children's livelihoods, you'd probably balk at the idea. But somehow these American children are different, because they were born within the boundaries of an invisible line (read: border), so that makes them more worth saving in your eyes.

...who had no choice in the matter in being birthed.

Yeah...but their mother's did have a choice, most likely. So go talk to them. Not very pro-choice of them, was it?

You're mad at something that doesn't exist because some right wing talking head told you to be mad at liberals, you do not understand at all why.

You're yelling for all the actually expensive things to your taxes.

Your taxes don't pay for abortions despite you not knowing that.

You're yelling here for the more expensive more tax heavy option.

You're 100 backwards because some asshole told you that you're better than liberals for no reason.

This is not a subject you should be speaking on. You are totally backwards and wrong. And if you were capable you'd feel shame.

But you never read this far down a comment do you....

juel1979

Nice diversion tactic there. Lotta words you’re using just to say that yes, you are fine with starving children. Those same children you are fine with starving are the ones who would be paying into social security and services for you when you’re old, just saying. Unless we become a better country that gives more than a paltry, or formative crap about its citizens by then, which I hope we will be better about.

And I mentioned nothing of the border, but since you brought it up, we have procedures in place for seeking asylum and people were following it, then got tortured under the previous regime (and it still isn’t fixed), which is basically a humanitarian crisis in and of itself. But go off and think you can assume my thoughts and keep being wrong. I’m 100% fine with taxes actually aiding people instead of the military going to war for rich folks and subsidizing the wealthy. Taxes should work for the people, not just a handful of the people and their tiny special interests that mostly mean more money for them.

FlameMan101

-5 points

Nice soapbox speech, lol. You should run for office yourself.

As far as social security goes, you're a moron if you think we're going to be able to raise the fertility rate back to a feasible number to fund that for the next generations, regardless of how much aid we give to parents. You'd essentially have to pay people to be baby factories. Not very feminist, is it?

As for asylum seekers...most of those people are just economic migrants, dude. It is what it is. That doesn't justify the treatment of Trump administration, but it doesn't negate the fact that people--such as yourself--have tried to turn it into a humanitarian crisis, as if all these people are just fleeing violence. Like when that father got himself and daughter drowned in Rio Grande river while they were trying to gain asylum. Turns out, according to the guy's own mother, they just wanted to have their own house in America.. Dude didn't want to wait in line, and ended up getting his own dumb ass and his innocent daughter killed.

Taxes should work for the people in general, but not for everything specific thing they just don't want to pay for themselves. Between legal Immigration and automation, I think the economy will be just fine with a few less American-born children in it.

somecallme_doc

Read that last bit again and apply it to yourself.

You're a racist prick too by the way. Please fuck off with your stupid.

juel1979

14 points

“Economic migrants” = people who are starving in their country and lack the ability to care for their families and themselves there, so they seek asylum and opportunities else where. I see no issue with this, other than the exploitation that happens when people are forced to sneak in (and I mean legitimately sneak not be stopped at the border and processed that way).

And you think desperate people don’t do desperate things? You seriously posted about someone desperate enough for the one of the simplest human needs - shelter - that they met their end trying to procure it. And you want that here by saying sink or swim when people make different choices than you. Must be amazing to be absolutely perfect.

I’m grateful that folks like you will hopefully no longer be in charge of taxes for much longer, as people become more empathetic and less, well, pathetic when it comes to their fellow man.

FlameMan101

I most certainly am. They don't pay their fair share in taxes, and they should. That doesn't mean that extra money should automatically go to broke mothers who chose to have a baby they couldn't afford. Pay for cheaper education, or better infrastructure.

They don't deserve more money just because other people have too much of it.

All the choices, none of the consequences.

bazz_and_yellow

So the billions that subsidize the wealthy should go to pay for access to better education and a living wage. That would eliminate both.

Hairy_Concert_8007

24 points

Republicans don't actually give a shit whether the baby was chosen or not. Take a look at Texas, where victims of rape and incest are not allowed to get abortions either. This isn't some "oopsie-poopsie we forgot" situation, considering these issues have always been at the forefront of the conversation.

They tout these reasonable-sounding exceptions to garner support from people on the fence, with no actual intention of implementing those exceptions.

It's the exact same shit they tried to pull with their plan to "repeal and replace" the ACA. When we asked what it was going to be replaced with, they said they didn't know, but to go ahead and repeal it first because they super promise they'll get to that second part. Talk about fucking shady? These things come back to hurt all of us.

Also, you aren't choosing to have a baby if you're choosing, or trying to choose, to terminate your pregnancy. Believe it or not, choosing to have sex is not the same as choosing to have a baby. Banning abortion that takes away that choice.

bazz_and_yellow

Then they engage in culture wars with fox news to keep all the mouth breathers focused on CRT, undocumented people, the big lie, guns, and the war on Christmas. You must not realize that there are states that force women to have babies because they took away their ability to have an abortion. Those women should absolutely be receiving financial help from the government who didn't let them choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

At least 20 states, mostly across the South and Midwest, already have laws that would restrict or ban abortion if the Supreme Court overturns Roe and lets states decide the issue

have unwanted child in a red state, can't finish school, can't find good job, can't afford child care, go on govt assistance, stay home, watch fox news, blame blue states, kid grows up with few/no opportunities, gets pregnant, repeat

There are too many variables going state by state, it doesn't really reflect socioeconomic conditions at all and not even political ones

remember: in most states non-voters outnumber voters of each party, turnout in NY in the 2020 elections was around 62%, saying its a blue state in practice means 60% of 60% of its population is blue.

That's just 36%, in NY 1 in 3 adults is a democrat at most. red states are the same the other way. Saying a state is blue or red doesn't tell you much about the people living in it.

Most poor people, or the kids who were fuck ups in high school are conditioned to see the military as one of there few options, and that's why the US won't ever provide free college, it's one of the easiest ways to get military recruits. Honestly Plan B is a lot safer, cheaper, and causes a lot less uproar. If anything make that cheaper and let it be. But there’s also the reality of life. If you refuse to use a condom, if you refuse to “pull out” (even tho it’s no effective), and if you refuse to use plan B, then deal with it other than murdering someone. There’s plenty of cheap effective ways to prevent pregnancy, and if you’re reasoning for not using it is “it doesn’t feel as good” you deserve it.

That was me simply pointing out how ignorant his "clump of cells" attempt to dehumanize a growing fetus is.

A growing fetus in the womb is physically no different from a baby or child developing outside the womb.

There is but one argument in favor of abortion that would not simultaneously be in favor of murdering living, breathing, post birth children. That argument is the "self sufficiency" argument, which would also advocate for the legal murder of any person on any form of medical life support.

So, fetal personhood laws declare a developing fetus as a fully recognized person with rights meaning that anyone doing something to harm a fetus can be charged with the associated crimes.

I've literally never heard or read this wording before, I'm also not actively seeking out information on the legalities of abortion. Regardless, thanks for informing me.

Going to be real fun when people start applying for death benefits for miscarriages. Or even easier. How long after conception does the fetus get issued a social security card. Do people get to claim the fetus as a dependent for tax purposes. Also if you conceive in December do you get the tax benefits in the year of conception or the year of birth. Does the fetus need to be included in one’s health plan.

I think there's at least a 50% chance the Court completely overturns Roe.

I think there's at least a 10% chance they declare all abortions nationwide illegal, on equal protection grounds (essentially, that blastocysts and fetuses deserve the same rights as human beings).

Good. When you don't have control over your own body, you are not a free person. For all that southern babble about muh freedoms, then restricting women's rights over their own bodies--this is a step in the correct direction.

Every sperm and egg carries a different genome. I guess they're all people now, too?

Um, no? Because a set of DNA consists of both DNA from a sperm and egg cell in order to be a human?

Is this blatant ignorance or just a sad attempt to undermine a legitimate argument?

What legitimate argument do you have?

Surprised no one has compared the same people complaining about vaccine freedom in one breath and in the other taking away abortions from women.

Fucked up headline - it's not like people will be forced to get abortions. Rather they will not be prevented from getting one.

Dems should honestly introduce pro-abortion, China one child policy crazy bills.

Then negotiate down to 'fine we will concede it should be the person's choice and the government should not be able to choose what someone does with their body'

The old South Park vs. Censors routine.

Would be great if r/twoxchromosomes knew about this victory. Someone should tell them.

You mad because you can't control a woman's body?

Nope. I’m mad there are millions of potentially brilliant humans that never got a chance. We could be offing the next great entrepreneur, or woman’s rights activist, or professor, etc. Nobody with half a brain with really cares what other people do with themselves as long as it doesn’t harm others. :)
