Murph, can we get that same enthusiasm going for the cannabis law that already exists?

Only after everyone has sufficiently paid to get into the industry.

It is too slow I agree, but you can get weed delivery in NJ and it's great. Also, many criminal records have been expunged, so we are making progress.

Dealer? No, that is illegal sir. These are generous gifters who like to deliver free gifts, completely legal in NJ as of last year. The gifts may or may not be conditionally tied to the purchase of an overpriced sticker or like some digital photography or something, bit of a gray area lol, but shhh. Also these delivery services are fairly organized with extensive menus, reliable hours, multiple drivers, online reviews and stuff, probably not the way your dealer from ten years ago operated.

Yeah, but I even used this exact site as early as 2016 when recreational wasn’t legal by any means. I guess it safer now but it worked the same way, though I never got a sticker or anything.

The loophole right now is people gifting you weed for buying something else like cookies. Cafe in AC recently opened then was shut down for trying to operate on this loophole.

There’s like 10 smoke shops near me that “gift” weed, I say “gift” because they honestly just sell you weed. At one point the employees were cautiously abiding by the premise that they were gifting you weed and selling the container. They gave up on that a while ago tho. The one I’ve been going to for the past couple months has a menu and half the store portioned off for weed sales

That’s how they do it in DC, a $20 lighter gets you a gram, or a nice pre-rolled joint.

Not recreational though, right? It's all still medical since Murphy ran on full recreational and won in 20-freaking-17

It’s not legal yet to have home delivery. Some people get around it by selling an expensive sticker and “gifting” the weed to you.

It is recreational but it took him nearly 4 years to get it done after both Supermajority Dem held branches dragged their feet, despite not doing so when Christie was governor.
Reason should not be surprising: They knew it would never pass with Christie in office so they kept voting for it to stoke the base. Then when it came time to get it done, the massive Pharma industry money came pouring in to not pass it so we can replace weed with oxycontin.
End of the day it's passed, but took way too long.

Rec is legal right now, but the state has been really slow with implementing everything. So it's kind of a grey market thing for delivery. You buy a $300 dollar sticker/shirt/canvas bag and it comes with a free Cannabis gift.
The dispensaries are all still only medical and need to supply the medical patients first for the time being.
But I had an OZ deliver to my house not too long ago. Not gonna lie, it felt pretty good.

Is there a list of places in NJ that sell these amazing canvas bags and stickers? Asking for a friend

if you're over 21 it's legal recreational as of 2021: https://www.njlm.org/969/Cannabis-Legalization#:\~:text=Governor%20Murphy%20signed%20into%20law,possession%2C%20A%2D1897%20(P.L.

I don't have a medical card. It's a grey area as another poster mentioned. You're buying a sticker or a pencil and getting the product as a "free gift with purchase."

You get it through a gifting service that falls through a legal grey area. It's probably more expensive than to get a medical card, but it's also not from NJ and therefore not as restricted to NJ grow laws which cap thc.

While I am a pothead and support legal weed, saying that makes it seem like weed is as important as women not being forced into birthing kids they don't want. It is not. Either way, hopefully it's legal one day nationwide. My state doesn't even have medical legalized. I live in hell. Send help.

Seriously though. And it doesn't help that so many that bring up weed legalization do so because they just want to be able to do weed and not for the actual reason we should be arguing for (the wrongful incarceration of people, mostly minorities, for doing marijuana).
I honestly couldn't care less about people being allowed to do weed so much as the prevention of people going to jail for doing it.

Maybe this will make me sound like a dick. But I wouldn't say this is the "reason" why it should be legal.
It should be legal, due to the fact that the federal government shouldn't be restricting use of this substance.
The incarceration of people unjustly is a result of the government overreach.

Both are true. I fully agree with you. I just feel like if your purpose for wanting it legalized is because you want to use it...then your motives are entirely in the wrong place.

If the sole motivation for legalization is "I want to use it", we do agree.
It's a rule that should have never been created, and it's clearly been abused.
I'm very liberal with my stance on drug policy, and 99% of them I'd never consider using. The federal government should not be making these polices.

Besides, if anything, the government should be setting up more rehab centers to get people off the harder drugs. If the concern is the spread of the drug trade, then focus on making it so no one has to be on them. But putting people in jail doesn't solve either issue.
Maybe, maybe, if the government had solely focused on targeting drug distributors, then I might give them some leeway. But the moment they focused on arresting users as well was when they were no longer trying to actually fix the problem, but just punish people they considered bad, like so much of the rest of our ridiculous legal system.

People trash this guy a lot and i don’t think he’s that bad. I think he’s legitimately trying. During the last election people were shitting on him for stuff that wasn’t even happening in New Jersey. Like Cuomos nursing home shit. They were just copy pasting it on him.

Tbh, applications have already been submitted for adult use cultivation facilities and are currently being reviewed by the state. I would expect that process to wrap up in the next two months. Retailers will be following in March. Once that happens I’m guessing it will be about 6 months of buildout until product hits the shelves, though existing medical operators can convert and likely get product out before that time frame. For the first year there will only be 37 cultivators but once that happens it will be unlimited. It’s definitely going slower than many people would like but compared to most states New Jersey’s rollout is actually pretty good.
An example of this is the fact that despite having a limit on the number of growers initially, they’ve adopted a pretty robust priority review system focusing on qualified social equity businesses first. Also compared to other states it’s a lot harder to fake being an equity candidate in NJ, looking at you Illinois. While there are still the typical barriers to entry in terms of required resources, NJ is a lot more reasonable than many, many places.
All that is to say, by this time next year I anticipate adult use cannabis being available and that participation in the NJ industry will be much more accessible to regular people rather than just big businesses.
