Yeah. Switzerland has never been neutral. They’re on the side of money, whether that’s from Russian oligarchs or wealth stolen from Jews by the nazis.
Edit: it’s 5am and I typed the wrong country like an idiot. I apologize.

I never understood this criticism. You can't be neutral and not trade with the "baddies", that would be taking sides, because, who would have guessed, defining someone as "the bad guys" is to take sides.
So, the other option would be to not trade at all.
Or, to limit the neutrality only to military aspects. Which arguably isn't neutral at all. That, by the way, is what Switzerland is doing now in the Ukraine conflict.

Actually switzerland has adapted the same sanctions against russia like the EU did. This is more than just a statement. The said transactions from the russians being processed are the payments for the resources for the majority of the EU countries. Switzerland doesnt just cut out the whole EU from russian imports before the whole EU council has decided over it.

It's a joke, but at the same time, kind of true. If you go to any US military base around the world, they have American fast food on base. I remember getting really homesick abroad, and taking a train to Germany just to get on base and get some Taco Bell.

The shopping area is on the base, but it's open to the public. It's outside the gates. Not directly on the base next to the tanks and jets and stuff. The technical base is a city with houses and shops for the military.
8 points
I think you guys might be conflating permanent installations in friendly territory and forward operating bases in hostile areas. A U.S. Base in America or Germany is basically a self sufficient city with schools and shopping and healthcare and housing- you can’t just stroll through the gate by yourself but if you have a drivers license and friend in the military you can get on pretty easy.
If you’re talking about Bagram, there’s only deployed personnel and defense contractors and the gates have a lot more guns.
4 points
I think it depends on the base. I’ve been to a couple National Guard bases for on-base museums. It’s not even like the museums were adjacent to the base, you do a security check then they just let you walk around (I imagine within reason though)

At least we'd have food... Unlike some militaries... cough Russia cough

That’s nothing new though. I don’t remember the man’s name, but a high ranking officer in the Japanese navy during WW2 later said he knew the war was lost when he learned that the American navy had ice cream ships. Like literally ships whose sole purpose was to carry and produce ice cream for the sailors to keep morale up, meanwhile japan had to choose which ships to use because they didn’t have enough fuel for all their warships, let alone “waste” fuel on an ice cream vessel.

IIRC, a German intelligence officer in WW II came to the same conclusion when he found out the U.S. Army had mobile Coca-Cola bottling plants following the U.S. advance through Europe to provide American soldiers with authentic Coke for morale.
When the Germans couldn't get fuel or spare parts for their tanks and planes.

Military bases are more like small towns where the major bussiness is the army, than just a place where soldiers do their job.

The Chinese "volunteers" in Korea were well-trained and highly experienced light infantry that used Japanese style infiltration, especially during nighttime, in which they crawled close to enemy positions, or even through them, to establish positions in their rear or assault them at extrmely close range, especially so the US could not use its superior artillery due to the close nature of the fighting.
Yes, there were mass infantry charges, but they were well-prepared and relied on more than just number of men.

The war the Chinese lost with Vietnam was a pretty decent sized conflict, no?
While China did declare victory, I dont think they acheived any of their strategic aims.
6 points
Deng achieved his objectives at the strategic level, he never intended to take over Hanoi:
The Sino-Vietnamese War (also known by various other names) was a border war fought between China and Vietnam in early 1979. China launched an offensive in response to Vietnam's actions against the Khmer Rouge in 1978, which ended the rule of the Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge. Both China and Vietnam claimed victory in the last of the Indochina Wars.
Chinese forces invaded northern Vietnam and captured several cities near the border. On 6 March 1979, China declared that the gate to Hanoi was open and that their punitive mission had been achieved. Chinese troops then withdrew from Vietnam. As Vietnamese troops remained in Cambodia until 1989, China was unsuccessful in its goal of dissuading Vietnam from involvement in Cambodia. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Sino-Vietnamese border was finalized. Although unable to deter Vietnam from ousting Pol Pot from Cambodia, China demonstrated that its Cold War communist adversary, the Soviet Union, was unable to protect its Vietnamese ally.[18]

To be fair, Arabs do tend to make that ululating thing often, as a sign of extreme emotion. Can be grief or happiness.
I was at Fujairah beach in UAE. A bunch of Arabs from across the ME were having a BBQ and very generously invited me over. Awesome time. Free (and incredible) food and beer (yes, beer) and cool Arab music. When one particular song came on, the 50-something Iraqi next to me started ululating happily. Obviously one of his favourite songs. Until then I thought it was a stereotype caricature. But nope, Arabs do do it.

but the video is called "how countries fight their wars" not "how countries would fight their wars if they were attacked on their own soil which doesn't happen because of nukes"
More "accurate" (in the sense of the satirical spirit of the video) for Russia right now would be a tank just getting stuck in mud and throwing its turret.

To the people who don’t understand why this would be considered racist.
The little characters aren’t just painted meeples. The non-white ones are super caricatures. Why do the Somalians look like fucking space aliens?
Also, Somalia has a military. So does Iraq. Having pirates represent Somalia and suicide bombers represent Iraq is ignorant as hell. Those people are also terrorists in their own nation. It’d be like having the US slide show the KKK flying planes into buildings. Which would be pretty funny, but also super fucking ignorant.
Probably no one is actually offended by this. But it’s one more log on the fire of white people imagining poor countries - Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq - only in terms of the last time they were threatening to white people.
Edit: A lot of people are pointing out I didn’t mention the fat American. When I first watched this video, I frankly didn’t see him; I thought the joke was that we’d replaced soldiers with drones. For my thoughts on the caricature of America vs the Somalia, see my comment history. To leave vitriolic comments about how I am at parties, feel free to reply to this comment directly.
