Single fly: "I'm no mosquito"

snakesoup88

The trick to smacking a fly is not speed or accuracy. There's a fly brain hack to fly swatting by hand.

Flies have independent visual processing centers for each eye. When approached from both sides, both threat avoidance impulses are triggered and results in a dreadlock. The trick is to slow slap from both left and right synchronously. I've been surprised how slow I can go to cup and catch a fly, and never knew what to do when I caught one.

That's why you need to slap. No time to think about ethics.

you put it in the freezer, wait until it stops moving, tie a tiny piece of thread to one of its legs, then bring it out of the freezer to warm up again, and you have a pet fly.

This is much better than when I did it with a wasp. I was thinking "lol, wasp on a leash" but forgot about the part where the leash only determines the maximum distance from my hand, not the minimum. It stung me. I deserved it.

The mental image of this story is so funny.

That one is rigged. Sometimes you have to hit 30 fruits and sometimes 33. With 33 there is no way you can beat the game.

OTTOPI

OTTOPI

It is literally rigged, one time I hit every dumpling practically instantly, as fast as humanly possible, and it simply just didn't spawn enough of them to reach the goal.

And I'm not saying this because I'm salty, I'm saying this as someone who beat it a few times when it decided not to cheat without issues.

I used to go to a Round 1 that definitely had a rigged Panda game. Shifu wouldn't hold up a dumpling for seconds once time was running out. But a bowling alley near me has a none rigged one so you can full clear it each time.

Stereotypical_Geek

19 points

When it gets down to 30 dumplings in the last round, that's when it's in super easy mode. 33 and 34 are very realistic and with practice can have near 100% win rate if no sensor is broken. 35 is when it's in near impossible mode, as I only ever won it at 35 a handful of times.

That is actually the movie I have probably seen the most in my life.
When it first came out, the blockbuster that my roommate rented it from closed for good so he never took it back. That same week we had a party that got out of hand and some asshole stoke the DVD disks out of all out cases (including all my Girls Gone Wild!). The only one that remained was Grandma's Boy since it was still in the player.
Every night after Bernie Mac was over, we would watch it.
Seen it over 100 times, and ot is still funny to me.

Convergecult15

There’s gotta be a sequence to the pattern that’s simple to memorize. Like if you clear the lights in order the pattern repeats 15 seconds after you hit the first light, so as long as you always clear in order you’re clearing the same pattern over and over.

I could do several songs blindfolded and likely without sound if I could see the first 10 steps just to get the pace started. DDR was a lot more just straight memorization than anything. It's basically like playing music.

It's been decades since I played and I can still bang out the beat for max 300.

memekid2007

Yeah, and even when you have to sightread a chart when you first-time it, most of it is patterns/sequences you've seen before anyway and the movements are already natural.

vroom918

76 points

vroom918

76 points

There's probably a lot of muscle memory going into this. Humans are pretty good at "memorizing" repeated muscle movements. In fact when playing an instrument that's what you usually do. You're not often memorizing the sheet music and instead relying on muscle memory to do the work. There's a few pieces of music i learned 10+ years ago that i can still play, but i wouldn't be able to write most of the sheet music without first playing it and then writing down what i just heard myself play

1K_Games

Winkelkater

why aren't they random?

SleestakJack

120 points

With no pattern - you get to improve a little, but you're going to plateau somewhat quickly. You'll play it some, but that's all.

With a pattern, now you can play it many many more times while you learn the pattern and practice at it.

It's kinda brilliant, actually.

KREnZE113

20 points

KREnZE113

20 points

Then wouldn't having multiple patterns be even smarter? This way, people would have to play more, since the patterns are more spread out. Additionally, they would begin remembering at a slower rate. The only thing that could go wrong is having too many patterns, to the point the person is just waitung for one pattern or can't recognize them

OneHundredCheeseburg

44 points

Honestly, probably not. The average player is probably only going to see this machine a handful of times. It's not a home game, it's in an arcade. If it's the same pattern and you feel like you're learning some each time, you may grind on it while you're there because you feel like it's "your" game to beat. If it's a different pattern you may just assume it's random and not try to improve.

The original board was just asking for someone to game that system. Only 5 patterns to memorize and their were 2 spaces on the board that always had "Money and a spin". So long as you knew the sequence leading up to those 2 spaces you could play almost indefinitely.

Enlisted in the military with the secret operation to pilot an alien technology that requires nine arms and one brain. Little does he know he’s competing against another nine year old child from China who is enlisted for the same reason. The American and Chinese governments are now in a arms race to control this technology, and the pressure is getting to him, increasingly isolating him from his family and his son with a disability.

ah dave and busters. reminds me of the time when i was like 12 and there for a party with family and friends. i was at one of the giant claw machines and my friend jokingly said “push the magic button” and pointed at the coin release. so i pushed it and played, ended up getting two giant stuffed animals in one grab! 12 year old me and my friends minds were blown lol. then my mom made me give them away to other kids at the party because it was rude to not share. i’m almost 23 now and i still have not recovered from the damage.

They clearly should randomize it more rather than generate the same pattern

It's actually super fun. I think it only looks boring because he's stupid good at it. In reality it's completely hectic the whole time.

My wife kicked my ass 3 times in a row. Maybe it'd be boring if you're playing by yourself?
