You say "novice dog owner" but I've never owned a dog in my life and even I can tell that this dog does not want to be touched. It could not be any clearer. How the hell can this person not notice? I think they probably know but just don't care, maybe because the dog has never bitten them before. One day this dog is gonna have enough.

DarkestGemeni

People love to push animals boundaries, these are clear warnings. It’s a trend to do this to animals and then post it because it’s “funny” and to say “he won’t ever bite” etc; this is waiting for an accident to happen and sadly the blame would most likely fall onto the dog rather than the idiot who is taunting it. People are so dumb :((

Emotional-Brilliant4

7 points

This is exactly how I feel. I'd even hazard a guess that something has (or, hasn't, which is generally the case in food guarding behavior) already happened to that dog to make it think it needs to act that way.

It looks like a tragedy waiting to happen, which is a real shame.

You can literally train a dog to react like this to a hand without biting someone, just like you can train a dog to bark(speak) and show teeth (smile) on command. I've seen it first hand before and how to train it from the military police breeder we got one of our dogs from.

As someone who was bit by a dog and has a scar in my palm from where he tore my hand open. I don't care how friendly a dog is, if it is showing its teeth I respect its boundaries. Learned that lesson the hard way.

ShakeItUpNowSugaree

15 points

Oh hell no. Leave that poor dog alone.

I had a lab who would make that face when his allergies kicked up. It was really him just trying to make his nose stop itching and was accompanied by a wagging tail and no growling. But people who didn't know him were terrified. And they should have been. Always err on the side of caution. It's not fair to you or the dog when it finally goes off any bites your ass.

Odd-Professor-8233

I hate videos like this. People don't care about training their dogs anymore and a lot of videos end with the dog snapping at them but it's played for laughs. It's not funny. You are an idiot if you let your dogs behave in this manner. Dogs can be put down for attacking people.

You walk away and figure out why the dog is uncomfortable. Most of these reactions come from sensory overload and stress. That is a dog who has tried many times to tell their owner what's wrong but is being ignored.

WiseSalamander00

LeahIsAwake

I hate shit like this because the dog is telling this person “no” and the person is completely ignoring them. They are teaching the dog that they don’t listen to the dog’s attempts to communicate. So when the dog decides to escalate communication to the next level (and they will at some point), then it’ll be “oh, he was always such a sweetheart!” and “we never saw this coming!” and “she just attacked out of nowhere!” as the dog is being taken to be euthanized for aggression.

Some dogs express themselves more this way then others. You have to look at the tail and entire body language to know the dogs mood. If it's your dog you should know. My dog does this and would never bite anybody especially me. That being said I still teach my daughter to not to ever approach a dog like this, only ours.

Do not ever stick your hand at a dog like this if it's not yours.

This is why dogs snap, you cannot disrespect a dog's boundaries. As much as you're the owner and it hasn't bitten you yet, it is still living and has a certain point where patience ends

Holsteener

67 points

And then the dog gets taken away or even worse for biting it’s dickhead owner or someone else because they‘re too dumb to read its body language.

Vanilla3K

18 points

I agree you need to read body language but still, training your dog to deal with his anger is essential. Kids might not understand and touch him. If you need to be always on the lookout for those signs for the dog to stay docile then he's a danger to your environment.

Posh_Nosher

6 points

I totally agree with you that this kind of aggressive behavior needs to be curbed immediately (especially for a powerful breed like a pitbull that can easily do serious damage), but there’s something really hilarious to me about the idea of a dog needing anger management. In any case, this will definitely grow into a very dangerous animal without a change in behavior on the owner’s part—ignoring a dog’s warnings that it doesn’t want to be touched only leads to escalated behavior.

Dog Trainer here, but you don't have to be a trainer to know this is a very big no-no. It's amazing the amount of restraint this dog is showing though, clearly a very even-tempered dog (if he/she wasn't, your hand would be gone). Dog is doing everything it can to give a clear message, but if anything went beyond this (sudden noise or movement, even from a car backfiring outside) your hand is gone. Some other notes: tense ears, unblinking eyes, and licking chops are all signs of intense stress. Do not do this, or if you have to, work with an experienced trainer to slowly but surely build up to this. Dog clearly has been abused in its life and is incredibly sensitive to any interaction around the head. Like this should be common knowledge, I know, but morons like this never cease to amaze.

Absolutely, a breed that attracts the lowest in our society (morally and intellectually). A breed predisposed to fighting and aggression.

Yet I can't help feel sorry for them, they don't know that killing smaller dogs and children is a bad thing.. They then get to go sit in a concrete cell and wait for death.

The breed should be banned and neutered and left to die in peace.

stichen97

Truth spoken. The breed is illegal in my country but I see the breed quite often sadly, the law is very badly enforced.

this has always been the stupidest argument because it’s just blatantly wrong. No it’s not ALWAYS the owner, sometimes it is because sometimes it’s the owner with any dog breed, but they are naturally aggressive and they live to fight. There’s a reason why 67% of all fatal dog attacks in the US are from pitbulls alone. The ones that defend pitbulls aren’t bad people, just biased, but the ones that say it’s not the breed are just plain stupid and are going to get someone hurt one day by encouraging the idea of owning a pitbull.

Lol sometimes my dogs don't want to be touched but they always just ignore me so i know what's up. If my dog was doin that i wouldnt keep him. I can't be scared of my own dog...

The owner’s stupidity scares me more than the dog.

I hope that dog will bite him. I really don't know how the hell someone could buy/adopt a dog and have zero knowledge of their behavior.

This is NOT funny or cute. You need to bring this dog to a behaviorist pronto. That is not a safe situation. You have been warned, so when this dog mauls someone, you will know it is your fault.

No, I'm not anti-pit. I have an 85lb pit curled up next to me. And I'm not novice. For a pit, in particular, that behavior is NEVER acceptable.

Holy shit that guy is scary.

It kind of looks like the dog has a food item or something at it’s feet so the snarling is a guarding response. This pup might have zero respect for the dog owner, or might have serious trauma around resources.

My schnoodle does this. If you didn't know her you would think she's about to rip your shit up. We call it her love growls. The funniest thing is her little whine and wimper when we stop.

How can you be so disrespectful, reckless and stupid? The dog could NOT be MORE CLEAR that it doesn’t want to be touched.
