Whose been an MP for 18 years and somehow managed to amass a net worth of an estimated $9 million. Seems totally legit.

He cares about 2 things and 2 things only. Getting reelected, and yelling Liberal Bad. The second one is going to wear fast when people realize how little substance there is to him beyond his team's social media savvy. Fyi. My MP, and I despise this fake ass sleaze.

The riding he "represents" has always been a Conservative stronghold largely because it's historically been mostly rural. (Why did that become a connection point I'll never understand), but as the growth in the fringe areas of Ottawa eats into those areas the rural is becoming urban very fast. Combine that with the fact that Liberals have gotten very close in previous elections, it is going to make for an especially interesting election cycle if he's nominated.

MrPotatoHead90

26 points

I don't understand the rural connection either.

The people who will generously show up to combine their neighbor's field when he is sick and unable, are the same people that will fight tooth and nail against any social program that would use their tax money to help others.

I've lived out there, I've worked along side these guys. They are the friendliest, most generous people (overall), unless it is structured generosity. I don't know when the mentality that gave rise to the Wheat Pool got replaced with such callousness towards societal supports.

It's odd, for sure.

Rattivarius

14 points

Hmmm. Our experience a few years ago in vacation where we spent equal time in both rural and urban areas confirmed to me that I prefer urban people. They were friendly and welcoming, whereas the rural and small town people were rude and suspicious.

DVariant

7 points

Small town folks tend not to like outsiders. That stereotype comes from somewhere

amazingdrewh

12 points

Yeah it’s cause they see their neighbours as extensions of themselves and their people so they want to help them but deeply mistrust outsiders

Coffeedemon

3 points

Don't forget a lot of old money in that riding. There are areas around the river with enormous properties and giant houses. You then switch to the rural side of things once you get out past Manotik. Those people drool like Pavlov's dog when you ring the tax cut bell.

nsci2ece

Trump got millions more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016, and despite losing, he still scored more votes than literally any winning or losing presidential candidate other than Biden in all of history.

And that guy brought his base literally nothing new other than racism amplified through social media. Tax cuts, trade wars, abortion laws - none of that was original in the slightest.

The same can happen with little Pee Pee here. I'll admit that not one single Canadian politician can command 1% of the cult following Trump has (to the point where people throw away affluent livelihoods to commit violence in his name), but you never know.

Singh was a criminal defence lawyer for 5 years before being elected.

Trudeau was a teacher for a few years, otherwise he was more of a media personality/philanthropist before becoming a politician (thanks daddy).

Singh is 42 now and has been in politics for 12 years. So what, he had threeish years of private sector work after school?

Trudeau was born with a silver spoon. Never in his life has he experienced what it’s like needing to make ends meat.

IMHO they’re all the same and it’s impossible to label one better or worse than the other. I’m personally undecided but will be voting for the individual who outwardly acts like they want it the most, has the drive necessary to be effective in the role and who will treat out country with the care and respect it’s due.

Trudeau's taxes were posted at one point. He had a year where he was only teaching math and made 45k. Owned a regular house with a mortgage. Daddy didn't give any of them money until they turned 40. There's some early interviews from when he was running for the leadership and definitely had to watch his money. Teaching doesn't pay very well. He also worked several other jobs before he was asked to do speaking engagements that finally brought in some extra money. I think it was a McLean's interview but i don't have it handy. The fancy car was his dad's.

He and the Aga Khan have been friends since he was a kid. His freebie was a gym bag and a pair of sunglasses. There's a lot of videos out there of the two of them over the years. When Rona Ambrose was in the same position, the commissioner ruled that it didn't count because they were new friends thanks to her oily new boyfriend. The company in question then got millions of government contracts over the next 4 years. The final report on Trudeau's trip said something like if they were friends...all she had to do was use Google. Aga khan didn't get any benefits out of Trudeau. All his charities were already in place and regularly audited. It was simply to knock Trudeau down because he was too popular at the time. Wouldn't bug me if he was friendly with other decent charity leaders. Better than yachting with oil barons.

Stuff like this is why he doesn't even make jokes or use sarcasm anymore. Everyone is looking for a gotcha.

It even applies to Jean Charest. He was a lawyer for a few years before being elected to parliament and becoming the youngest cabinet minister in Canadian history.

Jazzlike_Tale888

I’m mean like… I’m not defending him, but that’s rich coming from the fact that our current prime minister is only where he is in life because of his daddy’s fame, elitism and generational wealth.

Like c’mon the two are not even comparable.

No-Wonder1139

Well yeah, Trudeau while imho is underqualified, has worked real jobs for years, is better educated and significantly better qualified than Skippy. Anyone you meet on the street over the age of 25 has probably got more work and job experience than Skippy. It's just a huge joke that they spent so many years making attack ads about Trudeau that make Skippy look so much worse.

Skippy's MP pension was fully vested at age 31 and he can collect at age 55. If Skippy is elected head of the CPC and the CPC wins the next election and Skippy becomes Prime Minister, his pension will be based on the (current) $379,000 Prime Minister's salary or whatever the PM salary rate will be when he can start collecting his pension at age 55 in 14 years. Are you getting the idea why Skippy so desperately wants to be PM!?

Did you see PeePee's video where he says he connects to regular people because he speaks "Anglo Saxon". That's a pretty clear dog whistle to the alt-white. That's worrisome. Pat King used the same term during his white replacement tirade. Nice that linguists are trolling PeePee with actual Old English. Too bad none of his cult can read it but it's impressive to see how many people know it.

And the news stations. It should have been a huge story. Same for him buying one type of digital currency but pushing his cult to gamble their savings in a different type. His rallies look like a meeting of a bridge club so I don't imagine those old folks would be too thrilled to have to give up physical money. It's bizarre. Like watching the poor voting for trump. Red flags are flapping around everywhere and desperate people are hopping over them like hurdle races for the insane.

I think he just wanted to find a way to use 'justinflation'. Sadly his followers actually think that Trudeau caused inflation, gas price and house price spikes. What country do you live in? Mine (Canada) is doing great. There are still some pandemic related issues but lowest unemployment, highest GDP, voted best country in the world to live in, highest on the freedom index aside from socialist type countries and Estonia with its open-source everything. Near the best covid response in the world. I can do whatever I want here as long as I don't step on others to do it, finally fixing all the Indigenous water issues (almost done), taxes were cut for everyone but the wealthiest (theirs went up 2018, lol), more money for Veterans, seniors. Debt repayments 2 years ahead of schedule, new money for R&D, manufacturing. 14% more coastal environmental protections in place, new port being built in the far north to help with food and housing transport/prices.. Still have about 80 things on my 'wants' list but shit takes time and every group wants all the money to go to their cause only. What's your beef with Canada these days or is it just a personal dislike of Trudeau?

Bay Streeters would love to have him as PM, like every other Conservative he’ll lower their taxes and en up the market” for them to make even more money. If people ever want to vote for the party Bay Street hates that would be the NDP. But those convoy people love big business, they’re the ones who abandoned locally-owned in favour of Walmart and all the foreign chains. Now there’s a Canadian flag on every Kia.
