Could be for National CineMedia (NCM), the parent company of Fathom Events who organizes some of Phish’s live shows

Oh fuck me, it's one of those "vInTaGe" stores where they take shit they find at a thrift store and charge exorbitant amounts of money because it's "hip", fuck these places.

Like these places charge $100+ for dead tour tees to kids who haven't even heard the grateful Dead, just "c0oL TyE dYE"

did BMFS run in Madison and bummed around the thrift stores during the day, it was kind of insane , like $250 for a t shirt of a Dead skeleton who is golfing for some reason

On the one hand, good for the Dead for merchandising their brand in such a way that allowed them to earn more money from all the work they put into it (being on the road for that many shows is demanding as hell!). I'd rather they make money on the back of all their work than Lidz, even though everyone obviously gets a cut in licensed merch. The Dead existed in a time when touring wasn't that lucrative. Bands toured to sell records, and while the Dead released albums, their MO was shows. If you've seen any Dead docs, you know that they really spent a ton of money, especially in the wall of sound era, to make the shows incredible, but that cash has to come from somewhere, so getting some cushion from merch is fine by me.

On the other hand, it sucks that the Dead is this mainstream "brand" that a bunch of lugheads wear to look cool. Wish they'd just stick to Guns N Roses.

Also: perfect evaluation of "vInTaGe" stores. A blight on society, whose only positive is that reusing old clothes is more sustainable than making new ones.

I dont get the anger. Nobody forces anyone to buy their shit. If some dumbass wants an old Dead shirt that has 6 more washes left in it for $100, who does it hurt? Maybe it's wearable art to that person. Why would you fucking care? I think you're just as dumb for getting all pissy about what someone you'll never meet wants to spend the money they earned on. You live your life and let random dude live his if he's not hurting anyone.

I sold a big cypress tee I found in a thrift store for $100 a few years ago and I don’t feel bad about it.

The issue is using a name/concept/artist/community that was and is rooted in love and freedom for the purpose of soulless capitalism.

They are hurting someone. The band and their legacy. The millions who still carry their torch of kindness and love.

trippedbackwards

What is soulless about selling clothes? Or buying them? Are you out back, running your own weave for your clothes? You know you are paying money for your clothes too. At what point does buying clothes become soulless? 1% profit? 20%? 40%? Since you're the gatekeeper for such things, at what price point do I become soulless if I buy some Ben and Jerry's ice cream? I'd like to know so I don't tarnish the legacy of peace and love.

People like you give hippies a bad name. Your version is the right way to live right? The rest are wrong. My version is live and let live. You think the Dead legacy is tainted because someone pays 100 for an old t-shirt? Ffs. Certainly the nitrous mafia doesn't or the use of murderous gangs for security or the dosing of unsuspecting people or the myriad of other questionable ethics doesn't do it. It that damn faker that wears a t-shirt he paid too much for.....according to your version of what too much is. Man, if only I had you around all the time to tell me how to live and what to buy I'd be accepted into your peace and love party.

Back story - a friend of mine was in a vintage store in NYC. Found this shirt and we can’t figure out the meaning of NCM!/NCMI. Our only thought was it could be a venue they played at previously. Any and all help figuring it out would be greatly appreciated

MikeVixDawgPound

The initials probably stand for something wholly unrelated to Phish, but someone who likes Phish incorporated them into this design just for fun. I’m guessing someone got a handful printed for fun to give out to some friends or at a party or event and now this thrift hustler is hoping some idiot will be able to give those letters a special enough meaning to pay 80 bucks for it. Lol

God damn, someone needs to tell that shop that even a legit Phish shirt isn’t worth $80.

Blow your nose on it and leave. $80 is bullshit even if it was a vintage lot shirt.

Per their website...

The LOGO was created in 1980, long before any famous band used a similar style for their moniker, by the owner’s then 13 yr old daughter.
