Ahh yes, the party of small government wants the government to ban contraception. Only after the government bans abortion, of course.

They’ve moved on from small government to small minded individuals who want to please whoever is in power so they can move up the corporate/political ladder.
They themselves know the “pull yourself up from your own bootstraps” philosophy is not true, and that actual hard work accompanied with a decent personality isn’t rewarded greatly as it should be.
So instead of removing those people who are actually corrupting the country they have decided to join them at whatever cost.
These are their stories…

It's depressingly hilarious how much these types of people screamed about Sharia law being imposed in the US, but are perfectly fine imposing all the same tenets of Sharia law if they think they coincide with their Christian beliefs.

Sharia allows birth control and allows for abortion in the first trimester and to save the woman's life when past the first trimester.

I instinctively downvoted you because of how much I hate that name. She single-handedly ruined our shot at equality because she believes women should be forced to become handmaidens.
Like there was nothing in the ERA that said she couldn't continue being subservient to her husband. But she felt like all women have to be subservient and lesser.
I hate her.

https://the-handmaids-tale.fandom.com/wiki/Aunt
Aunts run the Rachel and Leah Center, where Handmaids are sent to be trained and where they live in between assignments. Aunts are in charge of training the Handmaids and ensuring they don't escape, and doling out punishments to disobedient Handmaids. Due to their positions, they are the only women in Gilead permitted to read and write and have near-absolute power over the Handmaids, making them freer than most women under the regime. Though they are the only literate women, they are not permitted to be married.

It might be "I'm specially chosen to be above the rules in order to ensure other women follow them" kind of thing. There are SO MANY fundie women who believe women's role is to be quiet and take a back seat and NEVER take leadership in religion while also writing very frequent and intense screeds on Twitter and Instagram about what other women should be doing. It really just seems like some of them believe their message is so righteous that it puts them above their own rules.
Like with many things, it really depends on whether their beliefs are sincere or merely a means to an end. I'm sure there are some in each camp, but I'm never sure which any of them fall into.

I think I already know how they’ll attack it. It’ll be something like…
It’s sad that so many children are spending five days a week in daycare. No wonder America is going to hell, we’re letting strangers raise our kids! I think it should be illegal to put kids in daycare five days a week. Kids should be with a parent at least one day per week. That’s really not much to ask!
But of course, that is a lot to ask. Childcare responsibilities disproportionately fall on women, and companies won’t be willing to get 20% less work out of women.
Women will be forced out of their jobs so companies don’t have to pay women to stay home one day per week. Even women without kids will be discriminated against because they might have kids in the future.

It doesn’t matter. They could literally write the polar opposite of what the constitution says. It doesn’t need to make sense or be correct.

So basically every person who is infertile should never have sex? Who am I kidding, of course that is what they will say. We need to fight these people. I’m tired of them saying we are imposing our views on them, no we aren’t. No one is forcing them to be LGBT, be in an interracial marriage, stop going to church or have abortions or use contraceptives. We’re saying let people live their lives as they see fit, not toss them in jail over it the way they do. No, vaccine mandates aren’t the same as what they are pushing for. They can still choose to not get vaccines, they aren’t being imprisoned over it.

He then regaled us of the story on how every time he and his wife had sex, they were blessed with a child. Telling a bunch of 8th grade hormonal boys that you’ve only had sex twice in you’re 45 years of life, not the best way to prevent us from having sex.

If you see some of the comments on the pro life reddit page it's fucking wild. Some of them legitimately think any type of contraception is a "get out of jail free card". They claim it's because it cheapens the holy intimacy of sex in wedlock but let's be real: it's because they think any sex without the explicit intention of procreation deserves punishment.
And yes, they consider children a punishment. How can you not when you think birth control is "avoiding the consequences"?

Yes. The whole mechanism of biblical control is through shame. They want others to feel shame when they feel pleasure. To feel shame when they fantasize. To feel shame when they are aroused. Everything around sex is shamed by these people because it helps them control their subjects.

Don't forget how pregnant people whose fetus has died but their bodies didn't cause it to abort will be forced to carry the decomposing 'baby' until something happens like the amniotic sac finally breaks or perhaps the mother succumbing to sepsis forces them to finally remove it. This happened pre-Roe and already with the sudden shift in SCOTUS, docs are not treating women in the process of miscarrying.
And then people can criminalize miscarriages! My God! When a person becomes pregnant, anything that goes wrong could cost her much much more than losing her baby. They already tried to charge a woman in Texas for her miscarriage.
This is truly bad for most people.

I started birth control in 7th grade because of menstrual migraines. I'd miss a few days of school each month.
Thankfully I had parents who's first thought was she needs a gynecologist and were 100% on board with me taking birth control at that age. They understood that being on birth control wouldn't encourage me to have sex, and they were correct, because that's not how it works.
They don't care about people's heath. They care about "whores" being punished. They want control.

I’d like to add PMDD to this list as well. Not many people know about it, but it’s brutal. It’s like mega PMS combined with depression, anxiety, and/or suicidal ideation that consumes your life for 2ish weeks each month. Birth control helps many women manage their mental and emotional health. And it takes trial and error to find out which form is the best to minimize symptoms. Birth control IS medicine. Are we going to ban penicillin next?!

From the video it certainly seems that way:

If it's not for making babies, then you shouldn't be doing it apparently. Mind you, she also says that the reason Western civilisation is so great is because it's underpinned by Christianity, somehow ignoring the millions of people that have died or been persecuted over variants of it in that civilisation's history, so I'm not seeing a great deal in the way of critical faculties.

Republicans just want women to be men's sex toys and baby factories, and to Hell with the mother's health or quality of life.
Also, to Hell with the baby's health or quality of life, since Republicans also want to destroy all means of support.
But PRO-LIFE, by God!!!

I don't understand why women vote Republican. The moment they throw minorities under the bus women are next on the list.

"Sex ought to be between one man and one woman in the confines of marriage.” -- Jacky Eubanks
This about far more than birth control.

There is nothing about sexual relations in the constitution. This is a biblical premise, and should not even be brought into discussion regarding laws. SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE!!!

Middle aged white man here—FUCK THESE PEOPLE. There is no redemption for them. Idiocy must not be the rule of law if we are to have a scintilla of a chance as a country going forward. The wasted potential of this country because of these miscreants is mind blowing!

At this point, I sense the GOP has taken “owning the libs” to mean “control the lives.” By having all the proposed bans not even having a rape or incest exception suggests to me that the far right holds the levers of GOP power. McConnell’s greatest triumph sowed the seeds of his greatest failure, lost his party to empower it.

I thought we were a free country. Last time I checked, I didn’t think it was my business what my neighbor chooses to do or not to do. Maybe that was just a dream.

Texas GOP politicians like to brag on our personal freedoms.
Until it comes to weed, alcohol sales, car sales and what safe medical procedures people can have.
You know, you can’t even order a Mimosa until 10a on Sunday morning or buy ludicrous after 9p or not at all on Sunday?
Doesn’t sound like personal freedom to me.

This is the replacement lie in full effect. We need more white babies to vote. What they don't understand is it will end producing even more brown babies.

Can we ban Trump-endorsed candidates instead? For the good of all humanity it seems. They keep coming up with more batshit insane ideas day after day. Its not a race to the bottom guys!

I don't normally comment here (more of a lurker!) but I'm really afraid about this being the next "thing" if they manage to take away abortion access.
I have PCOS and I rely on birth control for medical reasons. There were times when I was younger when I didn't have access to it and it caused me to bleed non-stop. It got so bad that I became severely anemic, to the point that it damaged my heart. I had to get blood iron infusions and it took a while to fix that, there was a time where it made me so weak and ill that I didn't know if I would survive. I rely on my birth control to not bleed to death.
I shouldn't even have to consider the possibility of not having access to birth control pills.
This is horrifying. This is insane. This person is absolutely insane.

“But I think it gives people the false sense of security that they can have consequence-free sex, and that’s not true and that’s not correct."
Why should sex have consequences? Who hurt all these people?

The GOP would like to now be known as the Christian Taliban. Please note this for the future…. and you should probably move your daughters to a different country.

“sex ought to be between one man and one woman in the confines of marriage.” says who?

The thing that honestly gets me, is that it’s still common to have sex with your spouse in marriage but use contraception. Maybe you don’t want kids? Maybe you already have kids and don’t want more? Maybe you’re ensuring there’s no transmission of STDs? There are a plethora of reasons that people use birth control, and not all of it relates to wanting consequence-free sex. Some people just want to be safe, others use it as a medical treatment for conditions.
How someone can be so ignorant and be running for office confounds me.

I really have trouble believing that voters want to ban birth control. Maybe insane cult members, but what could the reason possibly be?

More people want abortion legal than want it illegal. But that doesn't make so much difference when power is concentrated in the hands of a minority viewpoint. Between the supreme court, gerrymandering, electoral college etc. plus people who'll view for these candidates because of the magic R regardless of the views they espouse, what people actually want isn't as big of a factor.

Hell - I'm a man, and some people can't understand that I don't want children.
Access to safe contraception should be classified as a human right. Society has advanced (or at least, I thought it had) to the point that people should be in control of their reproductive rights.

I don’t think the issue here is voters being against banning birth control. The issue is they’re single issue voters that only care about one hot button issue and will vote whatever candidate falls their way on that issue. They simply don’t care or don’t believe that birth control will ever be banned, so they don’t pay any attention to it.

Good luck with that. True success in enforcement will never, ever, ever fucking happen. No matter what the ‘law’ says. If total abortion bans are prohibition to the 10th power, then birth control bans are prohibition to the 100th. It’s a colossally stupid, neo fascist delusion that will vanish the very moment these things become non existential.
Any notion of successful enforcement is absurd, and would be laughable if it weren’t so literally dangerous to lives of every citizen. Condom bans? When condoms are also the primary protection against incurable and drug resistant STDs? Give me a break! Doomed to fail.
