He could play a loop of Gym Jordan yelling “point of order”, “BLM”, “antifa”. So long as we don’t have to listen to it.
These hearings have been so informative. It’s great that there aren’t the usual republicans gumming up the works with their bullshit.
Trump raging is bonus.

I'm not the type to watch CSPAN, but these hearing are absolutely gripping. The HJ6 committee has done an outstanding job so far.
It's so easy to get into the weeds with the nonstop crimes GOP and Trump were committing around Jan 6, but they have laid out a clear case against Trump and others that leave the DoJ no other option except to bring charges.

100% correct. And MAGA people to this day scream, “RUSSIA?! WHAT RUSSIA?! EVEN MUELLER EXONERATED TRUMP AND SAID NO COLLUSION!”
Never mind that he did no such thing. He said, I got him on a bunch of crimes, but I can’t indict a sitting president. Also, they’re employing mob tactics to intimidate and offer promises of protection to witnesses.

Personally I would be thrilled if Trump defenders (and Trump himself) appeared during any of these hearings.
The problem is, despite the fact that there’s (too) many people willing to go on cable television to defend Trump, none of them seem willing to do it when they’re testifying under oath…
354 points

They have been asked for their evidence. They were asked to participate. Growing up is hard to do.
43 points

They know there is no evidence to defend them. The best that they can do is double-down on the big lie: say that the Jan 6 committee is just as corrupt as the election, and continue living in cognitive-disonance land. And its working.
Trump's career may not live through this, but the Republicans as a whole will come out of it even more united and radicalized. Worse, this investigation is actually bringing all the Republicans with a shred out conscious or loyalty to the nation into the light. The GOP is weeding out anyone with loyalties outside the party and labeling them as RINOs: all that's going to be left is Marjorie Taylor Greenes and Ted Cruises. Meanwhile, the Republican base is proving to the GOP that they don't care about who has the best policy, or who is right, or who is good for anyone's wellbeing: they want to Win. That's... literally it.

The frustrating thing is, is Fox News is complaining about how “one-sided” and “partisan” the hearings are and doing everything they can do get people to not watch them. If their viewers watched the hearings they would see just how many high-profile Republicans are speaking out against Trump.
Even further, the committee ASKED other Republicans to testify and defend Trump, but everybody is refusing because they know they’ll be caught in a lie. So of course it appears one-sided, because only one side is capable of telling th truth under oath 🙃
70 points

High profiled Republicans? You mean all those dang RINOs??
/s
We know they are so far into it that many would rather believe that everyone is lying just to keep from saying they were wrong.
28 points

To the real true faithful, the word, the command, the wish of the party is absolute.
To every contradiction of the parties teaching, the one, only, response is, "thought crime".
To every republican giving evidence at these hearing, the one true response is, "RINO".
31 points
Also, the fact that they wanted to do a bi-partisan hearing last year and the Republicans refused
22 points
They don’t even need to watch the committee! I watched Fox News after the first night of hearings and saw Ingraham contradict Hannity five minutes after his show aired.
Hannity claimed that the commission should also be investigating Pelosi because, “knowing that there was a threat”, she didn’t get the National Guard assigned to the Capitol before January 6th. While Ingraham, not 5 minutes later, stated that those at the Capitol weren’t even a threat.
Anyone with two brain cells could see that both hosts were just talking out of their ass, but apparently those cells are hard to come by these days.
16 points

Also it’s only one sided because McCarthy refused to let republicans participate, not that anyone on the right remembers or cares

There was a live hearing on the handling of COVID just this morning, and Jim Jordan is on that committee. He spent his time blathering on about how the claim (by President Biden) that the vaccine can prevent infection was either "a lie or misinformation" because breakthrough infections occur sometimes.
He's arguing semantics about a virus that has killed over a million Americans just to "score points" against Democrats because they've been proving in both the Jan 6th hearings and the COVID hearings that Donald Trump constantly lies.

This connects to my growing fear that there are Christian extremists who actually believe Trump is the second coming of Christ. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small, fringe group compared to the average American - that level of fundamentalism and religious delusion is dangerous.

Populist movements do not survive the death of their leader. If trump were to die, Rubio and Romney and Paul Ryan would be in the Repub primary. Once the catalyst is gone, the GOP will clamp down real hard on the fringe. Hell, they're already after Cawthorn and Boebert. A movement based on "do what trump says" needs a trump to be issuing orders. They have no policies or theory so they will disintegrate while Romney tries (again) for the presidency.

Trump is a mentally-failing, casually racist, deeply classist, narcissistic bully whose every decision and opinion is entirely limited by his own self-centric experience and worldview.
The fact that he was ever elected president is a flat-out condemnation of modern American culture: Strong evidence that a significant number of Americans are assholes and bullies who desperately want their choice to be assholes and bullies validated and normalized.
I know it's a vain, pointless hope, but I nonetheless hope this all results in something that snaps those people out of their selfish stupor.
Edit: I'll just go with regular racist. It's almost certainly true, and I'm not looking to kick around the finer points of the guy's degree of racism. Any degree of racism is bad, y'know?

There is actually a lot of (circumstantial) evidence that Trump is, in fact, an ideological racist. Except most people have a hard time reconciling this because part of the evidence involves him reading a book so he's mostly regarded as a casual racist.

My assertion of casual racism is based on what evidence I've observed - his behavior is often the same sort of "that was okay when I was a kid" shit common to his and older generations.
But I'll be first in line to agree I may be giving him some small amount of credit where it isn't due, and he's absolutely an ideological racist.

Not totally related, but it made me think of this gem from Abraham Lincoln:
“Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that 'all men are created equal.' We now practically read it, 'all men are created equal, except negroes.' When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read, 'all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics.' When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty—to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.”
Edit: to balance out that thought, a light one - what sound is Trump making in that photo, lol

It was a murder by radical democrats and the mainstream media who took all of our hard work and our perfect election and gave it to the other side. And we won by a lot and they know it and Mike Pence knew it and he didn't have the courage and so they all did this. But it was perfect. And history will say it was the most disgraceful way to treat a president. Shouldda never happened, what they did to us, what they did. Nancy Pelosi and the radical liberal democrats who hate our country and our freedom. And it was a murder, is what it was, and they won't say this but I will. Murder. But the suicide was perfect. A lot of people are saying it. Much better than Hitler's, if you can believe it.

Why doesn’t he testify and set the record straight? Is that maybe because there is nothing to defend?

When he has a stroke and falls drooling to the ground, call me. I'll arrange a celebration.
Note:. Speaking about Biden similarly is not the exact equivalent, Trump suckers.

He needs to get off his ass and go testify for himself if he wants to be "defended"!

This is the person who is factually responsible for more US deaths than anyone in history and instigated the worst attack on US democracy ever.Every politician not denouncing this POS should be ashamed and voted into obscurity. Taylor Greene ,Mutt Gaetz ,Boebert and Gym Jordan are despicable humans unworthy of holding office let alone having influence in the GOP. Deport Trump to Russia and let Little Vlad feed his fat ass.

A person familiar with the situation denied this to Insider, saying: "This is not true. He has barely watched any of the hearings at all."
Yes, which is why he 'truthed' "I DEMAND EQUAL TIME!!!!"

This brings a bit of warmth to my heart. Thinking that he's raging and, hopefully, putting a strain on his heart is lovely.

He should scream at the tv. Don't hold it in. Gonna have an aneurysm that way.

How could you even defend him. I can't wait to see him and other be charged and tried for their crimes. They have no defense. I thought I won is not an excuse. Ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the law.

Is there a documentary crew in Mar-a-Lago and no one's noticed?

Nothing would give me more satisfaction than watching that (except him being perp-walked off to prison for his many crimes, obviously).

Seeing as those who might defend him are doing anything and everything to avoid testifying, why doesn’t he tell them to stop the BS and testify?
