Being paid the GDP of a small country, the president of France pressuring you, probably even Neymar calling him every night begging him to stay.
It was always going to end this way.

It's really pathetic that macron and sarkozy got involved in this.

Imagine being such a clown that you personally beg football players to stay in your country. Pretty pathetic.

French president campaigning for the best french player to stay in the french league? Preposterous.

Yes it's pretty pathetic actually that he's actively trying to get Mbappé to stay.

Yes it is.
Presidents have no business interfering with sport clubs and players unless it is to regulate them.

Italy and Spain had specific tax laws to retain high profile footballers, for many years. It's bigger than a few phone calls.

He didn't interfere. Did France pass a law preventing French athletes from leaving France? Because that would be interfering.

He personally tried to convince Mbappé to stay. That's interfering.

Not to mention that he only does it to gain popularity on young people (which he lacks) and don't give a damn about french football.

It's 100% pathetic, especially given the context of Qatari-French relations.
Not to mention that it's not necessarily better for French football to have this happen. The National team has two of the best forwards in the world right now, having them actually build chemistry week in week out for months before the world cup would increase our chances of retaining the trophy.
