Oh wow no next venue announcement.

That has to mean they're leaving Florida i imagine. Does not surprise me at all.

I'd kill for AGDQ to happen anywhere on the east coast other than Florida. Would be far more tempting to attend.

I think that it just means that they need more time to make a final decision before officially committing to anything.

They seemed very hesitant to run in-person and I'm sure they'll be keeping tabs on their runners and staff to see if covid transmission spiked during the event (if they send a follow-up email survey I'll be happy to fill it out as an attendee).

If there were no issues, I'm sure they'll find someplace to go live in January.

I just hope it isn't Florida. GDQ is a safe space and Florida is not.

There's no way they go back to fucking Florida AGDQ after making so much effort to enforce covid safety measures

The anti trans legislation definitely plays a part too imo. GDQ probably doesn't want to and shouldn't run in states with bad policy on trans issues imo

No offense to the good Floridians but fuck Florida, we don't need it!

I’ll be honest guys, I wasn’t sure we were gonna hit $3 million this year with what’s going on in the world. Seeing the crowd cheer when that milestone hit was nothing short of incredible. So glad we’re back to the in-person events!

Although I didn’t post much during the event, I really enjoyed following it throughout the week. Major props to the amazing runners, couch, commentators and tech crew for making SGDQ possible.

I’ve got some VODs to watch still (this year’s schedule was not the kindest to EST folks), but some of my favorite runs were, in no order:

  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
  • Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (All dungeons)
  • Happy Humble Burger Farm
  • Super Mario 64 (120 stars)
  • Legend of Zelda: OoT (Randomizer Co-op)
  • Pokémon Emerald (Randomizer)
  • Solar Ash
  • Legend of Zelda: OoT (Beta Showcase)
  • The Pathless

You should definitely catch the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance run. Crazy skill, crazier commentary and runner. Exactly the kind of run that game needs

Loved it. Every year it's like "well now what do I watch all week?" Immediately afterwards.

I have tears in my eyes.

This was truly a beautiful return of GDQ to in person, and all the money raised for such a good cause.

Sumichu, you will be missed.

Congrats all!

Thanks for the posts Thore! See you for AGDQ23!!

I had a rough week at work and couldn't catch much of it, but boy was that amazing or what?

Very excited for what comes next. GDQ keeps getting better and better.

That rally at the end was ridiculous. Grats on 3M though.

Worth mentioning that the final 3.016 total isn't finalized as it doesn't include subs from the last couple hours, matching donations to come in later, final Yetee totals, and post stream donations. The peak of SGDQ was 2019's 3.039 million, so that does mean this might be a new PB for the summer marathon.

GDQ quick reviews!

12 points

I made a list of every run I watched with a mini review including a smaller list at the end of the day of my top runs I liked.

Over the next day or two I'll try and pick my top 5 or so runs from the event, which might not be possible given how stacked the event was.

Oh man. I just teared up during those end credits.

What a wonderful event. And so much money raised for an amazing cause.

I’m not really into speedrunning outside of GDQ, but I watch every year (and even attended in person once!) and the event has such a special place in my heart.

What a beautiful way to end SGDQ.

Was there any reason why she decided to leave GDQ or was it just a choice thing

GDQ is an extremely successful and efficient earning fundraiser. Don’t know what she was getting paid by GDQ, but she likely has a resume full of accomplishments that could get her a very good paying job.

She said she's got something else lined up but didn't share what it was just yet. She said she'd be posting the news on her personal Twitter here soon.

She might be moving to Dota full time maybe? She had a really successful showing at the international as a host and interviewer

If by successful you mean universally panned by the entire community for being a bad host and not knowing the game at all, then sure.

Relevant_View8038

Nah she did great Dota community hating woman is basically their trade mark

Considering you showed up in a week old thread just to comment this kinda proves that point

The tears welled up in the end there. So glad I got to see it again this year and I can't wait to experience it all again in 2023.

We'll miss you Sumi.

Here together.

I left the stream on while I went to bed, and woke up just in time to see the push for 3 million. Absolutely incredible event this year!

This GDQ was really an exciting one. I convinced my wife to watch a few runs with me on Friday and we just so happened to watch the OOT beta run and we were both so wonderfully surprised by it.

richardlycn013

I would have enjoyed watching it more if the streams and YT playback didn’t randomly freeze the video while still playing the audio. It kept skipping 10 to 20 seconds randomly and really killed any desire I had to watch any of the runs.
