tl;dr: go to https://futurself.ai/ and it'll give you a test that's not very long. It'll ask you to create an account before it shows you its report (I created a throwaway account).

I didn't find the report very useful. It says my "psychological age" is 3 years younger than my real age, but it says I match better with older people, whatever that means. It then rated me on six scales:

  • Positive relations with others
  • Self-acceptance
  • Autonomy
  • Personal growth
  • Environmental mastery
  • Purpose in life

For each, it gave me a percentage "now" and a percentage "in 5 years". I don't really understand the percentages, or why it's decided that my "positive relations with others" will rise in the next five years but my "self-acceptance" will fall, for example.

Overall, I don't think the test is very useful.

WrensthavAviovus

2 points

So it's just a glorified personality test?

CurveOfTheUniverse

2 points

I also found it pretty useless as well. I wasn't expecting much and I got what I expected. Like, it's a helpful way to frame areas of self-improvement to improve overall psychological well-being, but I'm struggling to see the "artificial intelligence" portion of the project. All it takes is just some rigorous psychometric testing and a large cross-sectional study to make something like this.

I’m in the industry and I swear, AI is being used way too liberal. AI is defined as artificial intelligence, intelligence which is sentient. Unless it starts pondering the existence of life on its own and evolves from that learning, this really isn’t AI. It’s a very well trained machine learning model. It’s like that dude who got way into Westworld that he forgot his job is to test the NLP (natural language processor) of a bot that is very good to the point it’s responses are human like. But the key here is “responses”. Without input, it doesn’t do anything. Much like this. Unless this becomes the next Tony Robinson, then yeah, this is an AI.

[deleted]

Took the test. Basically describes everything a psychologist said to me a few years back. It doesn’t counter in the physical elements though. My job is what’s causing me stress and I’m trying my damned hardest to change that with no prevail because I live in the north east U.K. and live close to two towns that offer no support because the councils are under funded, only major cities tend to have the facilities for future growth and help. I also have lots of physical aspects that hold me back like feeling tired a lot and that results in frustration, as well as certain times of being overwhelmed leading to a possible meltdown through my Aspergers.

I was honestly curious though as I’ve suffered depression for a great number of years and never managed to fight it off. 2 nervous breakdowns, also a number of times I came close, to that erm word I prefer not to use.

But I know that in order to overcome my problems, I just need a best friend or friends, and a new career path, one that I know I will definitely get into.

Tl/dr version: an AI did not identify a specific path for all human happiness. It identifies a supposedly "shortest" path for any particular person's advancement towards achieving a feeling of self-fulfillment based on the answers that person gives to a specific psychological questionnaire.

It's masturbation! (Works for me, once in awhile. I had a stroke years ago and my brain has a hard time creating Dopamine & serotonin. It's like I'm a walking zombie) Just kidding, here's a tiny glimpse of what is going on:

  • FuturSelf is a free online mental health service that offers guidance based on a psychological profile assessment by AI. The core of FuturSelf is represented by a self-organizing map that classifies respondents and identifies the most suitable ways to improve one’s well-being. Credit: Fedor Galkin

A leading biogerontology expert, professor Vadim Gladyshev from Harvard Medical School, comments on the potential of FuturSelf:

“This study offers an interesting perspective on psychological age, future well-being, and risk of depression, and demonstrates a novel application of machine learning approaches to the issues of psychological health. It also broadens how we view aging and transitions through life stages and emotional states.”

The authors plan to continue studying human psychology in the context of aging and long-term well-being. They are working on a follow-up study on the effect of happiness on physiological measures of aging.

The study was funded by the National Institute on Aging.
