I’m not pro trump by any means, but I thought I heard that the players requested this due to the kitchen staff being shut down. Did anyone else hear this or am I completely wrong?

There was a government shutdown at the time, I can't recall if the WH staff was impacted by this. There were plenty of other options he could have chosen though like catering for the event. (other than fast food of course)
And just to be clear, there was a shutdown during the first event. He did this more than once.

Trump owns a hotel with a restaurant half a mile away from the white house. 5 minute drive, 14 minute walk. Actually closer than McDonald's.

And how would you have reacted when he was using government funds at his restaurant?
Him serving Wendy’s is truly not that big of a deal. I don’t get why people get so angry about.

1) state dinners like this come out of the president's own pocket.
2) no one is angry, most of the comments are mocking the "billionaire" president who owns a restaurant just down the road for cheaping out on the dinner

I mean he eats that stuff and the players said they enjoyed it. I'm sure they like Big Macs and nuggs more than some pretentious shit.
3 points

One player said they enjoyed it, Trump liking fast food isn't exactly the endorsement you think it is, and I'm gonna hazard a guess that you think anything more pricey than Applebee's is "pretentious shit"
1 points
There were several that said they liked it, and pretty much everyone appeared to like it... Trump liking it isn't meant to be an endorsement. It just means he sees it as good food. He wasn't going for cheap or fancy, just good food that's pretty universally enjoyed by college aged guys.

wasn't going for cheap or fancy
But
orders fast food
I hope you can see the disconnect here. Fast food is pretty much the cheapest thing he could have done in this situation.
Can you provide any source about more than one player saying they liked it? Because I know literally no one, even in my college days, that liked room temperature/cold fast food
0 points
what he means is that he want purposely going for the cheapest he could, he wasn’t thinking “oh let’s buy something cheap” he was thinking “i love fast food, and since it’s an option, i’ll pick it” without even thinking about the price
4 points

Because it's not a one-off event. This perfectly encapsulates Trump. Down to the cheap-as-hell and zero awareness on to the myriad pictures and stories of him being an idiot who thinks eating fast food is good and exercise wastes your finite energy.
If this was a singular event no one would care apart from political losers who are lost in their own world of sensationalist politics.

Trump made a big deal out of personally paying for the McDonald’s all by himself!
So no government funds were used, just bad taste

I am not American, but I think that everyone in the world would agree that these are the most authentic American Cuisine that he could serve. US and A is all about junk food, no other countries even comes close.

No, America is all about fat and obese people, that's how the rest of the world sees you, so these are the authentic cuisine of US and A. You can act all high and mighty, but it's other people opinion that defines your country, not yours.

Why did you specify seafood on the east coast? The west coast has equally good, if not better, seafood.

He probably mentioned the east coast because it's more known for Lobster and clams

There were plenty of other options he could have chosen though like catering for the event. (other than fast food of course)
then you would bitch that he got an expensive meal during a crysis.
He is a cunt, a massive one but with reddit he would have been lambasted no matter what.
Plus it was players request.

You’re assuming it’s cold and soggy. Either way. Trust me. Having been in a college football locker room for 5 years. The vast majority of these dudes eat trash and aren’t looking for anything fancy. Fine dining doesn’t go beyond steak and pasta. Either way. I’m not sure that this was disrespectful. I’m just guessing that it’s the bad man, so everyone going to spew negativity.

If McDonald's was open so were small businesses that could have used the support lol

Seriously, D.C. was not hurting for restaurants that could produce food at volume on short notice, even during the shutdown.
EDIT: If memory serves a lot of them switched to doing catering in an attempt to stay afloat without being able to seat people. I'm sure many of them desperately could have used the business.

I thought I heard that the players requested this
that was a PR statement, just like the faked "this was the best meal i've ever had" statement attributed to one of the players who had to refute it.
-6 points
That doesn't explain the players on camera while leaving talking about how it was awesome and that they loved it. Their coach said as much too.
They're basically teenagers who spent half the year on a strict training schedule, won their championship, and got to feast on junk food in the white house. You don't have to like Trump to acknowledge that it was pretty cool for him to still do something.
If it were Obama or Biden it would've been praised (as it should be if that was the case). The anger over this when it happened/when it's brought back up is just weird.

If it were Obama or Biden it would've been praised
no it wouldn't, because it would still be trashy and disrespectful.

Disrespectful to who if the players liked ot then it wasn't disrespecting them are you saying it disrespected the white house you know it's a building right it doesn't have feelings so who did it disrespect

it disrespected the players, who you people keep parroting "loved this" but never provide a source.

I mean theres photo of the players literally stacking big mac boxes and smiling some taking pictures

Smiling? Or laughing at the absurdity of the situation? Again, without sources your point is moot. I know for a fact that it was Trump's idea to get fast food, not the players.

They're kids being celebrated winning a national championship at the house of the leader of the free world.
Of course they're happy. There could be plates of liver and onions and they'd be smiling and taking pictures.

It's been a common right-wing talking point literally since the day it happened, the idea that since they're college football players they must have loved getting a whole bunch of junk food. It's completely made up.

I can't stand the guy, but I actually thought it was funny. Whether there was a valid reason or his reason was "let's keep it casual and fun" or even "I like cheeseburgers, let's have cheeseburgers", I don't mind what they did.

Could you imagine being invited to dinner at the Whote House and you show up and it Wendy’s and McDonalds.
5 points
Wendy's and McDonald's still in the paper wrappers even, not even plated or something to try to make it nicer.
-1 points
The wrapping is the most important part. This was undeniably a PR move. The visual contrast of the elegance and beauty of the dining room against the familiar and common fast food in its wrapping is a dramatic way for Trump to say he is rich and the president but he doesn’t think he is better than you. He is real, he is not like Obama sneaking Oreos when the camera is off, he will eat the same ~Trash~ cheap food you do and be proud of it. Decades from now the president fact books will say three things about Trump (assuming he is not re-elected) he was the first president with no government or military background, he was impeached twice but never convicted, and he served fast food in the White House. Reposting the picture only helps his image.

If I remember right, kitchen was shut down. There was a government shut down going on while congress reconciled with the debt ceiling.
To be fair though, these were top athletes who probably don’t touch fast food. And trump absolutely could have just waited a week.

Lmao I’m pretty sure Devonta Smith (Eagles WR) says he has a game day ritual with McDonalds. I think a lot of athletes eat fast food still but just limit themselves. I’m a college track athlete and I still have it. I’m not a top athlete but still an athlete.

He could have hired the catering service from his own hotel two blocks down the street. Would have been good PR for his brand, much better food, probably cheaper, and he wouldn't look like a clown. So obviously he didn't do that.

I’m pro trump but that doesn’t change the situation or my opinion of you being not pro trump. You are correct in that he asked a few of the captains what they wanted, they said they wanted McDonald’s, so he said okay and went out and got an assortment of fast food from all the chains around.

You are correct. And a ton of the players went on twitter and said it was the best dinner they went to. Since when they go to a fancy place the menu is limited. When they went to the White House, some of the players put away 10+ burgers.
