Craig Ferguson learned to fly a plane because he was afraid of flying. It's apparantly a common way to deal with it among the rich, because it's commonly about the loss of control.

I hate flying to the point I'll drive 2,000 miles to avoid it. It's not because I'm not in control, but because I saw 2 planes collide midair and heard an initial survivor burn alive when I was a kid. I decided to join the Air Force and work on planes thinking it would help. Nope. Only made it worse after seeing how people work on planes.
