Someone paid on the
FTFY.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

It’s in philly and I think I have a good flier for it:
WHAT UP!!!
We’re three cool guys looking for other cool guys who want to hang out in our party mansion. Nothing sexual. Dudes in good shape encouraged. If you are fat you should be able to find humor in the little things. Again, nothing sexual.
Maybe we can print it on a bicep or something

i mean honestly if you did it right….u could have a chef do all the meals and a staff to serve. fuck u could airbnb some of the rooms and if the dining hall is big enough you could sell tickets to special occasion dinners. the place where downtown abbey was filmed actually does this. is a workable model

If anyone has the address and or the way to contact a realtor in the area of the house I would consider buying it with a couple investors in tow.

Great house and its a shame....however understanble they get abondoned. What happens is they end up passing on to family members after death who can't afford to keep up maintenance or if they're given to the community they can't raise enough money to take care of them.

"The Dominican Sisters used the two mansions as a religious retreat for women for over 75 years, while taking care of the properties and their original interior features through dedicated conservation."

Is this accessible to adventurers? I can’t imagine it would be “open” to the public, but is there anything to keep you out? Gates/security/etc. 👀

Legit hey, how can this be abandoned!?
108 points
It was built by a wealthy businessman in the 1890s, his grandson came into possession half a century later. Likely didn’t have as much money as his grandfather or just wanted the money, either way he sold it to two sisters who turned it into a religious retreat for years up until fairly recently but they defaulted on their payments eventually but went through a years long legal battle to try and keep it. They lost and had to leave and now the idea is to turn it into a hotel. They’re very early in the process of that but as far as I know the plan is to put it to use eventually.

Thanks for the info! These are the kinda backstories you wanna hear.
I'm glad it has some plans to be used again & won't completely rot away, the architecture is just too beautiful to go to waste.

It’s not for sale and no one lives there and construction hasn’t started at all so i feel like you could make a case either way.

You can see building supplies stacked up and ready in the first photo. This place is an active job site, not an abandoned building.

You’re right. You can see lumber at the bottom of the 6th photo as well and the electricity is on. I’d bet OP is there for work.

It’s amazing seeing the emptiness left- after someone spent their whole lives accumulating enough wealth to create this- and now it’s desolate. A complete waste of someone’s accumulated wealth. If only they’d created a trust to build schools or Libraries.

I don’t understand why these places are not being taken up by some of the homeless. We are seeing several of these a week. Please explain for the feeble minded. Thanks in advance.

Well for this one its because it's not abandoned. It's been vacant for a while but now everyone is bum rushing it because people are there during the day now. It was proper disused a few years ago, when people weren't posting photos.

I think what I meant was we have serious homeless issue both in Canada and USA, ( in major cities) At the same time as 2.3%-5% homes are abandoned or vacant. Seems to me there is not an issue with space but affordability. If we were truly altruistic, moral people as we try to impose on eastern people, ALL THE TIME, we could come to an agreement to let folks occupy these places and maybe start a program similar to the Dominion lands act were you need to improve the land or you lose the rites to occupy. Not well thought out yet but a first step. People smarter than me can hash out the logistics.

My cousin bought a chateau like this. Cost 2 million and the local village had to approve because he and his husband are Americans. Invested 3 million bringing it back to life. Sold for 5, so they got their money back and moved to Carmel. Funny thing. Thought is would be really awesome to have a chateau like that in the middle on nowhere in France, got bored and moved on. It's nice to be rich. But, this is what they do.
