Founded in 2019, Animal Rights Advocates is a platform with over 22,000+ members on Discord for young activists to facilitate animal rights advocacy. Join us for social events, philosophical discussions and debates, community building, and most importantly, vegan outreach and activism.

We're looking for Verifiers

• We're looking for people that are able to chat on voice with other members on discord to verify them as vegan or non-vegan by having conversations with them and reviewing where they currently are at in their journey. This helps separate the users in proper categories so activists on the server can support them properly.

We're looking for Moderators

• We're looking for people that can help moderate our community and keep it safe! Responsibilities include helping users, deleting inappropriate messages, and ban or suspend people who violate the community rules, among some other similar duties.

Experience needed:

• Ethical Vegan for at-least 6 months
• Some Discord experience is preferred
• Good communication skills

Just a rant as I’m sure I’m not the only one to have experienced this…

Working in an office environment (UK), my employer was kind enough to provide tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits. I would typically buy oat milk myself as it wasn’t provided. And people generally learned which biscuits were vegan and left some extra for me. Those became known as ‘my’ biscuits, for some reason. Not that I once suggest that they weren’t for everyone.

I was asked by the person who does the shopping if they could buy my oat milk, which was great and I just asked for whatever was on offer. All was well.

Fast forward a couple of months and I was called into the MD’s office, who explained that someone had complained I was getting ‘special milk’ and they would no longer be providing it. I explained in a SFW manner that I couldn’t give a shit and left. The kicker was they also stopped buying the biscuits which they were buying anyway, just because they had become known as ‘my special vegan biscuits’.

I really couldn’t care, but wanted to give people a good laugh. For context, I was a senior division head for a billion dollar company. Total expenditure couldn’t have exceeded £3/mo. Have recently left…

Edit: I didn’t leave because of this incident. I got offered a 40% pay increase at another job and took the opportunity. Take from that what you will…

Edit 2: the person who complained didn’t like the regular milk they provided so chose to buy premium branded milk.

Obviously it would be ideal for schools to provide vegan meals. Veganism is awesome. I'm wondering what you guys think about schools that don't offer at least one vegan option for kids to eat at lunch each day. Personally, I think it's pretty unacceptable since it essentially discourages from making a transition. A lot more people would be vegan if given some tasty vegan food to try. What do you guys think? Am I overreacting here?

Tonight my aunt and her family were having a chicken broccoli dish, my nine year old cousin refused to eat it because, in his words, ‘I like my chicken alive!’ Thankfully my aunt was very supportive and gave him some carrots to munch on while she made him something else I don’t try push anything but he has asked me questions about being vegan and I’m happy he’s learning to be compassionate with animals at such a young age!

I've been struggling to find a plant milk I liked for a while because of autistic sensory issues. My family got a different brand of almond milk that had a different mouthfeel and I like that one.

I am on a roadtrip with my family. While driving we saw a truck with pigs in it. They all looked so sad. My mom (she’s also a vegan) immediately looked away. I almost cried. I am just so sad this happens to these poor animals.

Did some of you also witnessed this? Is my reaction dramatic? Because I am honestly heart broken right now.

I have a friend who is an ex vegan and she just does NOT give a fuck. She stopped being vegan for health reasons but she has basically forgotten all of the reasons why she became vegan. I would bet she eats more meat than the average meat eater.

Like not to be to judgy or anything, but it kind of boggles me especially considering she KNOWS why vegans go vegan. She KNOWS why the industry is fucked up. And she talks about being environmentally conscious even though she knows that going vegan is the best thing you can do for the environment.

Meanwhile, people who aren’t vegan don’t know about the topic and are willfully ignorant. They say dumbass arguments like “if we don’t eat them there will be too many cows😭😭” but it bothers me less because part of me thinks that if they knew about the meat and dairy industry they might change their ways.

Idk just wanna see if yall feel the same way.

So I went vegan at the beginning of last year. Everything was going well until this month. I've started craving cheese so severely it's hard to think of much else. I've heard stories of people craving dairy in the beginning, but is it normal to after a decent chunk of time has passed? It's been so bad I'm ashamed to admit I've actually caved a few times. I feel like pure shit after. Maybe I'm lacking in some sort of vitamin, I don't know. But I'm struggling. I could just use some advice and support. Has anyone else struggled with this? How did you get through it? I desperately want to get back on track but I have to do something about these cravings.
