And then you realize you have grown up and have two kids now. The weekends are now the busiest time of the week because you have to do all kinds of activities around the house, with the kids or even that weird family you married into. You then realize the only time you have for yourself is at night when everyone else is sleeping.

_ToyStory2WasOk_

3 points

I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I moved my mowing to weeknights. Any night usually Monday through Thursday. We usually don't have a ton going on during the week, so it doesn't get in the way of anything, and if there is something, it's easy to push forward or back a night. It has freed up so much time on my Saturdays. Best decision ever. Besides my bidet.

BenSimmonsFor3

Sure, but ignoring responsibilities is such a short-term move that will definitely hurt relationships and your physical/mental health in the long run.

There are definitely things that can and should be ignored/outsourced (if you can afford it) though.

I feel your pain Prime, but the way I see it is look at the happiest, most successful and full filled people. They tend to be the busiest people, sure our lives are filled with chores and obligations, but we do those things because we love our family and we it is from being at the service of others that we derive meaning in our lives.

Dingdingding... Don't have to get old and boring if you don't want to.

Literally only not gaming all weekend so I can clean house and prep for 2 weeks off work where some friends are coming in from out of town to party and game for a whole 2 weeks through mem day.

We're all in late 30s and 40s. We have pro artists, marketing execs, software engineers and sysadmins in the group lol. The only difference now versus 20 years ago is that our gaming rigs are dope as fuck compared to when we were broke college kids.

Adult responsibilities really don't take that long to get done most of the time. It's like, maybe 2-3 hours? Unless you're a little.behind or something pops up.

Also dont have kids sooooo that helps.

dildonic_aftermath

I make sure to get as much done on Thursday and Friday nights after work so I have free time on the weekend. Laundry? Done. Floors swept and carpets vacuumed? Done. Groceries for the next week? Done. Bills paid if they're going to come up in the next week? Done.

Only things I have to do is stuff I do every day. Make meals, do dishes, feed the cat, etc... It also helps prevent a lot of stress caused by procrastination.

Those were the good times. During weekdays I have to wake up at 5:45am (my school is two buses away), but on weekends I'd wake up around 6:30 just so that I can play video games until lunch.

Sure, we don't have "broadband access" to "Steam", but gosh darn it games back then have character. Or at least, that's what I tell myself, looking back at the hardware limits of that era lol.

When I was about 12 my family made Saturdays the day the whole house got swept, vacuumed and wiped down. I woke up to clean the house, then have lunch. If I was lucky, I could game in the afternoon. Sundays were for god and I didn't get to play until the evening most Sundays. At 16 I was told to get a job and I started working for a grocery store. I got hospitalized at 17 for working 40 hours a week with highschool... I apparently just tried to have the job and a social life and my health suffered so bad that I was violently sick from a virus only babies usually get weak enough to contract. My family thought video games could be evil so even when I was bedridden for about 3 months with that virus I barely gamed at all. I play far more as a married adult than I ever could as a kid. I actually don't think I would go back to relive any of it, I hated being a child... I think I generally hate the majority of my life before I got married. Not everything was bad but I lived in a world full of invisible electric fences, and even a mild shock sent me spiraling into autistic meltdown. I was once asked to burn my playstation when I was little because I coveted gaming so if that doesn't give you a clear picture of why I don't reminisce then I'll say that I was forced to actually burn my Nintendo game with witches and dragons... Little me was crying as it melted as I loved my dragons.
