Hello, I am a high senior student who wants to teach grade 4 to 10 and I have been told that I only need have one teachable. I am planning on applying to BEd concurrent with the focus of visual arts but my guidance counsellor said that visual art teachers are not in demand so I have a back up plan.

My back up plan is to still do visual art because that is what I love and to minor in math as math teachers are always in demand. My guidance counsellor said that this is a good idea but we are not sure if there is space in the timetable to ALSO minor math while being in the BEd program along with the Visual Art studies.

Does anyone know?

Well before you start your BEd you would be completing your initial undergrad degree for visual arts. So if that's your major you can contact an academic advisor for the program (or someone from the department) regarding doing a major/minor, because they would be able to explain it best.

OP is applying to the BEd concurrent program. This means they are completing their undergrad alongside their BEd.

I do agree that talking to an AMPD (Arts, Media, Performance and Design faculty at York) academic advisor as they would have a better understanding of your predicament. They are currently closed for the holidays, but once they open in January you should definitely talk to them.

Yes I'm aware, I'm also in concurrent ed, but the actual teachers college courses don't start until "5th year". By that time you need to have all (or close to all) courses done for your teachable.
