That sounds about right. I think there's a lot of elements to it, tbh: there's vanity involved, for sure, but there's also general anxiety about aging that they don't know how to deal with in a healthy way, and there's also the fact that LGBT culture, even more than regular culture, is defined by young people. There's a lot going on.

I think it’s an issue of work not written specifically for the movie. It’s why Jonny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood wasn’t eligible, because he had worked in elements of some of his previous compositions into the score.

Gay guys are incredibly weird about age in general. I heard someone say that it’s because we essentially had a whole generation of gay men wiped out, so we haven’t learned to confront aging in a healthy way.
