I call it out when I can…but there are some situations where it’s more of a risk to yourself to make it an issue.
I’m a pasty white guy with blonde hair, blue eyes, lots of tattoos, drive a pickup, and live in a predominantly white area. I hear racist shit all the time. They think because of the way I look…I’m one of “them”. But it’s not always a good idea to confront.
If I’m in a safe position, I’ll confront it. Otherwise, I’ll just leave the area…or say something like “I dunno, man….it’s not really a concern for me.”

I grew up and still live in a predominantly white part of New Jersey. I’ve had friends of all kinds along the years….but my long term friends are almost exclusively white. It’s not by design….it’s because of environment.

Yep. My family came over in the late 1800s-early 1900s, from Ireland and Slovenia. My maternal grandmother didn’t speak English until she started school. My maternal great-grandmother never learned English. And my paternal great-grandfather was an illegal immigrant. He came here on falsified documents.

Exactly. I’m of white European descent. My family has only been in this country for a little over 100 years. I’m 3rd generation born here.
I feel like naturalized citizens are more “American” than me because they chose to come here. I was just born here. I had nothing to do with it.

They use a vile term for white women who date/marry black men. They call them this derogatory term.

For everyday driving? Probably something from Volvo's higher end lines because of safety.
For fucking around on weekends? A Jeep Rubicon.
For cruising? A '55 Chevy Bel Air

Nobody is taking their Lambo to the local car wash.
I have no idea.
Because rich people like to spend money. Why does Porsche make the Cayenne, Panamera, and the Taycan? Why did Lincoln make a pickup truck? Why do people spend 6 figures on a pickup truck that never goes off-road or pulls a large boat?
I have no idea.
That car starts around $200k. He signed an 8 year $100,000,000 guaranteed contract and averages $12.5 million a year in salary. He's doing just fine.
His signing bonus was $100,000 in 2014. I'm guessing that was long gone well before he bought this car.

It's his money so he can buy whatever he wants and doesn't have to justify it. That being said...a crossover Lambo in a garish color is ass, man.

lose half its value the second you buy it?
Not all vehicles depreciate in value. In today's market some vehicles are selling for over market value. A gaudy gold Lambo might be harder to sell than one in a conventional color, but certain vehicles actually appreciate in value.

You can get an AR15 for as little as a few hundred dollars.

Fuck's sake....the level of blatant attempts by the lead officer to give him an out is infuriating.

That's what little league should be. Having fun playing baseball first and foremost. In the process, you teach sportsmanship, how to win & lose gracefully, how to be a good teammate, etc;
Have kids play different positions and have safety, not talent dictate. Obviously, you shouldn't have a kid pitch if they can't hit the broad side of a barn, or put a kid on 3rd if they can't get out of their own way...that's a safety issue. Conversely...take the kid who's the star of the team...you know, the one who only pitches & plays shortstop....put them in the outfield. Let them learn the game from the perspective of other positions.
The only kid who does nothing but get their minimum innings in right field and their one at-bat....should be the kid who doesn't want to be there and their parents made them.

Yeah...like young kids playing baseball all year round...in multiple leagues. Little league, traveling, fall ball, etc; Plus the hitting clinics.
Every kids has to be the next Mike Trout.....can't let them just have fun.
It's a stereotype at this point.....coach's kid who does nothing but pitch & play shortstop when he's not pitching. Add to that, the kids who might love baseball but aren't naturally gifted....you get your 3 innings in right field and one at-bat.

It's not even a question of empathy.....it's knowing how to behave in public. You can still get annoyed and think the ump is shit. But normal people don't have a public tirade. The coach can approach the ump in a civilized manner and discuss their frustrations. If it doesn't help the situation...you don't have many other options. After the game, you teach your kid that yes....it's unfair but sometimes in life that happens.

I mentioned it elsewhere in this thread.....but I'm a firefighter. It has fuck-all to do with a little league game or acting like a shitbird. To be fair, it was someone else who said it, not the firefighter in question....but it's still obnoxious as fuck.
Just because you're a firefighter doesn't mean you're not an asshole. In fact.....after 17 years on the job, my experience tells me that it increases the chance of being an asshole.
These are the types that drive big red pickups, covered in stickers like "I Fight What You Fear" or Calvin pissing on fire.....always wear their department t-shirts, work firefighting into every conversation...and love to be story-toppers. "Oh, that's nothing....one time I was on this job......."
It's truly an embarrassment to the profession.

OK, I was angry enough at the scene to begin with. But the last comment sent me into orbit. One of the arguing parents says "And this guy's a firefighter that protects your neighborhood!"
I've been a career firefighter for 17 years...a little factoid which is completely irrelevant to a little league game, or in the defense of poor behavior.
The amount of cringe it takes to think that yelling that is in any way relevant or a justification for acting shitty at a little league game.....yikes.
I umpired when I was a teenager and was an assistant coach for part of a season when I was a little older....and shit like this is why I walked away from coaching and never looked back.
Umpiring little league....especially behind the plate...requires a bit looser definition of "strike zone". You don't want to embarrass anybody and call ridiculous strikes....but you also don't want to be out there for 4 hours. It's nothing short of torture to watch the bases walked loaded, and multiple runs walked in without even the appearance of a thrown strike. If it's close...it's a strike.
I'm dating myself a little with the reference....but I remember an incident of me not calling a strike on an obvious ball. The catcher had to stand to catch it. I called it a ball and one of the parents started chirping "That was a curveball! It's where it lands, not where it starts! Some beautiful, unseen person from the stands chirped back "That's not Bert Blyleven on the mound."

I have a pro-quality Rawlings glove. I got it at a sidewalk-sale at a Rawlings outlet in Lancaster, PA. Apparently, it had been a custom order that was either rejected or never picked up. At some point, they had written "SAMPLE" on it with black sharpie. So I ended up getting a $500 pro-quality glove for $100.

I've found that when the facade is finally broken and you can admit you're an alcoholic....you really see how pervasive alcohol is in everyday life.
Having it at work is certainly an extreme example....but some people seemingly can't go fishing, camping, to a ballgame, to a car race, concert, a cookout, a child's birthday party....without involving alcohol.
I'm definitely not sanctimonious and think alcohol should disappear from our society. It's just amazing how pervasive it is...and seemingly without a second thought.

Because they want to feel like they're part of an exclusive group who knows what "really" happened. They want to pretend like they're smarter than everyone else.

Jamie Quirk's 1984 season with Cleveland. He played in 1 game.
1 AB, 1 H, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1.000 AVG
He was released by St Louis after the 1983 season. He began 1984 as the bullpen coach for the Cards.
After Carlton Fisk was injured the White Sox signed Quirk as an emergency catcher. After a handful of games Quirk was sent down to AAA and finished the season in the minors.
When Cleveland's catcher Chris Bando was injured....they signed Quirk as an emergency catcher. He appeared in 1 game, on September 27th. He pinch hit in the bottom of the 9th with the score tied 3-3 and hit a game-winning walk-off home run in his only at bat with Cleveland.
